converting a vr6 tacho signal to display on 16v rev counter
spanneredmonkey replied to spanneredmonkey's topic in Engine Bay
Cheers man, will get in touch with stealth and see what can be done -
I have asked before but cant find the thread, after some googling, I understand there is a mod you can do, I have a a coil pack vr6 lump in my 2.0 16v shell, the rev counter is reading way high mostly i belive to it seeing 6 sparks per cycle rather than 4, is there any way of converting the signal ( i have read about a variable resitor under a cover) without having to replace the whole cluster, My car has only 80k on it and have full history with it

well I have sorted everything to do with my converted vr6 nugget, but when the key is off the relay 31 clicks rapidly and the fan runs at low speed, when you turn the key it goes off and the fan tests and operates as advertised, even steps up speed however you switch off then the fan runs....10 mins later still running, 10 mins later still running is it a duff relay,(as it is clicking rapidly) or is it the yellow sensor? (which I belive controls the over run) when i remove the relay from the carrier with the ignition off and re fit it it doesnt do anything, until the key goes on then, when the ignition is switched off it rattles again and the fan runs, Can I run with out the relay, if the fans work when the ignition is on, i just wont have over run? as it is converted from a 2.0 16v to a vr6 i think there are bits an peices of both looms, does anyone have a diagram for that circuit from a 16v and a vr6 or if anyone in the basingstoke or aldershot area has a 31 relay i could borrow to test, as Martins VW want 39 quid plus vat for one

Pt no 191 959 875 The one behind the driver sides rear trim Unless some one near Basingstoke has one I can borrow to do some swapatronics

OH No!! just seen this I just bought a set of these in 8j to stick on my Nugget! I had a set on my Mk4 and reckoned that the rado would look great with them on , now it appears I am too late to the party! I now however cant wait to get them fitted because that looks sweet! (i wish they did the black or grey in 4x100, but after my missues has kerbed the crap out of them i will get them re done in gunmetal

Cheers guys will have a look at the slave cylinder, I can't remember if the aaa ecu us self mapping or not? Is that perhaps why it's running rich? -

The after market imobiliser was shagged, so I ripped it out and the ecu relay 109 wasn't operating correctly so swapped it out and she started, running a bit lumpy and rich but I will give her a good service and go over the electrics as it's a bit messy under the dash, I have found that the clutch pedal looses pressure unles you lift it back up with your toe so I have to sort that too -

Ok 109 relay functions, fuel relay 167 clicks, where is best to break into the fuel to see if there is fuel? On the 5 pin plug to the coil pack there is voltage between 1 and 5 and 5-2-5-3 flashes an led test light Still have no spark, now can't hear the fuel pump run, is this pointing towards a crank sensor or the like? -

Just been out to crank it no sparks, will get the multi meter out tomorrow and test the voltages, I have been reading that I need to test the 109 relay, check the ecu connections and test the cam sensor, I have the feeling that there is an issue getting power from the fuse board to the engine, I need to find some wiring diagrams -

Well today I had a closer look at the paint without it raining, there is 1 little rust patch top right of the screen so will get the rubber pulled back, it's not under the rubber just on top, Unwired the surelock immobiliser as it was not letting me de activate it, so ripped it out and connected the spliced wires, with the ignition turned to 2 the pump runs and there is fuel at the rail, however no spark, not played much with coil packs so not sure where to go from here? I can't find any wiring diagrams can anyone help the link to Bentley online I had doesn't work anymore -

Yeah I will take a few before I wash it, we got back late will post some photos tomorrow, she is looking sorry for her self, and I can't get it to start, when it's daylight I will try again -
I sold my Vr6 Converted Nugget Rado in 2012 with low miles, The guy I sold it to though an aircraft engineer was no good with cars and drove it for a year then parked it up, Its sat there for over a year and passed through several hands until yesterday I heard that it was going to be weighed in....... Hell no, I parted with 500 quid and got her back, She is looking a little sorry for herself but I rekon a good wash and a polish, will be looking tidy The reason she was parked I hear you cry? I have been told that its an issue with the fuel delivery, either a solinoid or the pump, as it still running the 16v tank I assume its still got the 16v pump? is there a difference? is there only one pump? and where would you start? I am off to collect it tonight, hopefully will be an easy fix
