I have been hunting round for a Bluetooth/iPod/iPhone controlling head unit and had narrowed it down to one of the Alpine iXDA-XXX (001 through 311) or the Kenwood BT60u. The Alpines go for between £85 and £100 odd on eBay (used) and the bluetooth box is an extra £40 - £80. There are also numerous reports of problems with the Alpine kit with iPhones (though they seem to be reduced if you use an iPod for music and leave the iPhone for bluetooth). I haven't seen a used Kenwood unit on eBay in the last week of looking/watching, but they are listed new from £155 - £250+ The online reviews suggested the build in not as solid to the touch but they do work at least! Anyway, I went down to Car Audio Security in Hayes, Middx to have a touch and feel with both. In the end I went with the Kenwood unit, I couldn't feel much difference between them, both units have a large dial to do volume, scroll through ipod etc and both have large lcd displays. The kicker was the Kenwood has the Parrot bluetooth built in and is new for £160 with a 12 month warranty. I have routed the iPod connector through the rubber grommet under the heating controls into the cubby whole. I have yet to fully route the mic for the handsfree. Sound is good (previous head unit was a 4 x 50 Pioneer CD/Radio) even through the stock speakers. Blue tooth call quality is fine (though the C is hardly quiet on the motorway!) Here's a grainy iPhone pic of the install:

I didn't fit new brake pads... they were less than 1/2 used... I did replace the heater thermal fuse though... Marc

After all this, both sets of pads are well under half used... The reason I started looking was a "rubbing" sound under light braking, looking at the rears, there is a slight ridge (looks as though it had been rusted but no is in contact with the pad) on the outer edge of the disc, I suspect on light braking, this is the only bit fully in contact, where-as on normal braking, the whole pad is in contact. (the car has had very light use for the last 10 years, the set in there are OE, with VW logo!). Thanks for your help! Marc

OE it is then.... EBC off to eBay! Marc

I picked up pads for front and rear yesterday from GSF (their OE/Standard ones, not their budget brand and not Mintex or EBC). I then found on a shelf in my garage a set of EBC "Ultimax" pads left over from a previous car (Corrado listed on the box). So the question is… EBC get a poor write up on the pages on this site (tends to be in relation to the various "COLOURstuff" versions); Should I stick with the OE pads or put in the Ultimax pads. My C (Std. 2.0 16v) is a daily driver, no track use, just spirited day time driving :) Cheers in advance, Marc

I have a problem with my windscreen wipers... (this may be why the Lupo wipers are a popular mod... I'm sure someone will answer) On the driver's side on the downward stroke there is an area of wet left over, vertically, about level with the left of the steering wheel. I have tried new blades, no use. I have tried at speed (blade has a spoiler) but it's worse. Any ideas? It's almost like the windscreen has a dip or a flat spot in it. (Its fine on the upward stroke). Cheers, mjcp

Colour is Met. Black (LA9V). Interior is cloth, black with thin colour "swirls"... Not sure Old Windsor is "Posh" (though the house in the back ground is quite nice, though not mine) we have our share of traveling tea-leafs and hoodies in the parks! mjcp

Recommendations for Th2 Transponder type immobiliser I'm after a Th2 immobiliser, I would strongly prefer a touch less/transponder type. I had a Clifford Virtual Key 2 on a G60 Syncro a few years back and it worked well, however it's no discontinued and there is (appears to be) no direct replacement. So, any suggestions? cheers, Marc
