who??? JMR = John Mitchell Racing

Did the cambelt on my A4 back at the beginning of December, whole front of the car off job, all belts replaced (x4) and water pump/thermostat at the same time, as John explained that you might as well do it at the same time, as you are in the area and everything is exposed. Saves a big job later on. Very interesting seeing the procedure done! Not a closed workshop like dome places. Would highly recomend.

You could try jumping it from another car, but make sure that you have some leads with surge protectors in them to protect the electrics in your car. Don't want a dead MFA etc do we.... If that works then see about charging the battery up properly, either by using a battery conditioner, there are a number on the market, to get the battery charged up properly. If the battery keeps going down rapidly, then you have either got a light left on somewhere (boot maybe?) or the alarm has a problem and is draining the battery on your behalf. In which case a new alarm, or just an immobiliser would be the answer. I guess from the flag you are based in Scotland, otherwise if you were in the deep south I would recomend that you speak to Andy Bryant (TrimWizard), who knows about these things, and is also known to the forum, and used to have a lovely silver VR C and a Mk2 GTI. BTW Darren, just for the record it was Shield Wax not Onyx (I know you know this now...). John
-
No, don't think so. you need ETOS, as this can be run on lower resolutions as well.
-
What problems with Cobra alarms and Corrados was that? Woody has one on his C and AFAIK it is working fine!

If you want to go down the megs route then get hold of some #83 DACP (Dual Action Cleaner Polish) which is similar to some of the stuff in the 1-2-3 kit I believe, then also some #80 Speed Glaze to add that extra bit of shine if you like, followed by some wax, P21S in the case of the car that I used it on (flat black). try http://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk HTH

It doesn't matter if you have a plain colour, newer colour with clearcoat or metallic (always laquered/clearcoat), then will all work well on all the finishes. Megs (retail range) can be bought in most Halfords and other car accessory type shops, P21S, Swissol, Zymol and Megs Pro/Valet (Mirror Finish) range can be bought online.

If one was new in feb, then it souinds ike a warranty claim to me. If they seize then that should only be after a good number of years. The Mk4 calipers (alloy ones) are not without their problems either, as the alloy get affected by road salt quite badly and corrode up, sometimes necessitating an even earlier caliper change.

Well, it is illegal to have them on if it isn't foggy.....and they are quite dazzling as well.

1. People who don't indicate 2. People without lane disipline on roundabouts 3. People who insist on speeding around schools at drop off/collect time 4. People who drive with their fog lights on when there is no fog - and no it doesn't look cool....... 5. People who don't bother with seatbelts for their kids 6. People who do bother with seatbelts for their kids but not for thenselves....stupid as if you had a crash who would look after the kids 7. People who can hardly walk 2 paces but are allowed to drive a car... 8. People that won't let you into a queue at roadworks when you should merge in turn, even when there are signs to tell you... 9. People with lights that don't work properly 10. People in pimped-up modded povity spec cars with loud exhausts trying to impress but going no-where fast..... that'll do for now.....

Quick Engine code question - ETKA anyone?
john_wintle replied to saysomestuff's topic in Suppliers Forum
Probably different blocks too, as the engine code is normally for the whole power unit. -
Remember that on the newer cars you are only polishing/cleaning the clearcoat paint layer and this is what give the shine, not the actual paint underneath. If the paint surface is just a bit hazy, as if it has a waxy layer on it, then just using some paint cleaner (not a polish) should be OK, followed by some wax. Sometime the use of the AG SRP can build up a cloudy later especially on darker coloured cars. This can be removed with a paint cleaner, and the gloss restored. Paint Cleaner can be from P21S, Swissol, Zymol, Megs or whereever. It will have high cleaning properties, low abrasive, and maybe gloss enhancing. Also I would advise against the use of a sponge, as once you get grit into a sponge you will not remove it. Use a wash mit or a wash cloth to wash your car with, then throw it into the washing machine afterwards. Likewise to dry the car, use a blade (HydraFlexi is the best) and a m/f drying towel, or just a couple of drying towels, and again throw them in the wash afterwards.

remap booked at Ray West tuning (thruxton) for june 12th

Let me know if you are interested in getting the inj's cleaned. They will obviously have to be removed from the car in the first place, and then sent by a reliable courier. John -
JamVR6, where do you live, as I know a man who can do alarms and immobilisers at a good price...and he is a C enthusiast as well!

Where to get a clay bar - and when/how to apply it
john_wintle replied to matth76's topic in Exterior
I have 2 of the Megs Glass m/f cloths (white with blue fabric edging on them) and they are really good. Not so impressed with the Water magnet cloths though as I can't seem to get on with it. I am still using a blade with 2 older m/f cloths that I have as they work. Megs Clay is OK for when the weather is coller, but when the temps get up is is rubbish to work with as it goes too soft. Some of the other ones that you can get hold of are better, as they are firmer to start with and therefore easier to use when it warms up .... -
I've got a Brera sat outside the house - mine for the day
john_wintle replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
The one problem about Alfa's is the reliability. Friend of mine had a 156 and the gearbox was life-expired at 17k miles, and then the crank on the engine went at 45k. That was with regular maintainance as well, and he looks after his cars. It went the week before last, as the cracnk was the last straw, and has been replaced with a lovely A4 1.8T (190bhp) in Black with the S-Line kit on it...... Clarkson has always said that Alfas were a bucket of nails, has he changed his tune then...? -

If you still have the original injectors in the car, then you should think about getting them properly cleaned using an ultrasonic cleaner. That way you will be getting the best out of the car with all the mods done and the remap. This can make quite a difference to the spray pattern on the injector, and will improve pick-up/idling and general running. John. -

P21S is Carnauba with Beeswax AFAIK, which is why it goes on well and shines, then buffs off nicely. As you can guess Andy, I have some as well....... Don't find the Paint Cleaner as good as the Cleaner Fluid though. Think that will take some beating :D

What you have to remember is that nearly all of these inexpensive polishers are just rotary ones, and as such you can do a lot of damage with them if you are not careful. Where the PC7424 scores is that it is a random orbital polisher with a large throw, which mimics the way that you would polish manually. As is has quite a large throw the amount of time spent on any one spot is minimised compared to a normal orbital polisher, and therefore is is virtually impossible to burn the paint.
