Thanks for confirming, I just wanted to make sure I knew what I was looking for! I've managed to find someone breaking a mk4 just round the corner from me so will have the parts by the weekend. Thanks again for your help!

Damn, I thought that was probably going to be the answer. I spent ages yesterday afternoon reading various links and came to the same conclusion, early mk4's had the wrong type of shift setup. It all came out of a mk4 golf gti but can't remember what year, must have been an early one it seems. I've found this on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/02J301107C-5-speed-manual-GEARBOX-VW-SKODA-SEAT-AUDI-PETROL-DIESEL/183645300858 Does that look like the correct shift tower?

Hi, I've bought the Polo parts for this and already had what I thought was a mk4 shifter setup but it's nothing like the mk4 stuff on those ebay links and the shifter won't fit in the polo housing so not sure what it's off now! However I was wondering if anyone could confirm the shift tower I have is correct, as that was off the same car so I don't want to buy a 2nd hand shifter without tower if it turns out I need a tower as well! The tower I have is definitely off an 02J gearbox so I'm hoping the tower is correct at least. OK great - thanks for the useful information! Now I just have to find the mk4 gearbox I know is somewhere in my garage and hope it's got the right shift tower!

It's been a while since posted any updates, being ill, waiting for tools and Christmas means I haven't got as far as I wanted. Finally got the engine out and gearbox off. Next job is to sort out a couple of oil leaks and am then going to look at cleaning the engine bay and trying to get the wiring loom looking a bit tidier.

Hi, I've been reading about upgrading the gearbox in G60 to the CTN box to give better gear ratio's, and have also been reading about changing the shifting mechanism to the mk4 stuff. However I can't seem to find anything from anyone that has done both changes together. I've found something about changing the shift towers over from the O2A box into the CTN, but that it also needs some modifications making. So would that also need doing if I was to try putting the mk4 shift tower in the CTN box? Any help is appreciated! David.

I agree, although I am biased! :)

So it's over 4 years since I updated this thread, it looks like all the pictures have gone now unfortunately :( Anyway in June 2012 I nipped out at lunch to the local Halfords, while I was stopped at some traffic lights a woman behind the car behind me mistook her accelerator for the brake pedal, she crashed into the Corsa behind me which then crashed into me. The car wasn't written off, but I ended up spending the insurance payout on a holiday to Iceland instead of fixing the car! I then lost interest in it so it's sat in my parents garage. Some years I would take it for an MOT but that was about all the miles it did. However, a few months ago I decided that it needed fixing and found a decent bodyshop (http://www.derbyshirebodyshopservices.com) to sort it out for me. I'm really happy with their work and it's finally starting to look better :) I've got a massive list of jobs that need doing on it, first one is removing the engine so I can clean the engine bay up, fit a new clutch and gear change mechanism and sort out a couple of small oil leaks. I spent a couple of hours on it yesterday afternoon and made good progress. I'll try to keep this thread up to date with how I get on over the winter and hopefully keep me motivated to finish it in time for some shows next year :)

Think I might have figured this out thanks to your suggestion - the car has had a new battery recently and I'm betting one of the earth wires for the uprated headlight loom was disconnected and not put back. I'll have to check that later this week when I go to where the car is stored.
-
OK thanks, will take a look at that. I'm hoping that would be OK though as I put in an upgraded headlight loom a few years ago to take load off that switch and wiring!

Hi, My G60 Corrado (91) has developed a fault where the entire dash stops working when I switch on the sidelights and headlights. Everything on the dash stops working - speedo, revcounter, indicator lights etc. I also noticed that the main beam bulb in the dash is faintly illuminated when this happens. I think it must be some sort of earth fault but was wondering if anyone had any idea's where to start looking to pinpoint the cause. I've done a search on here and google and can't see anything that looks similar. Thanks, David.

Thanks for both the replies - PM'd you both

Hi, I'm looking for a rear bumper (think they're all the same but in case it's a 1990 G60), doesn't really matter if it's cracked or marked, so long as the metal crash guard is OK. I'm in Nottingham so somewhere near there would be handy! Thanks, David.

have you checked the isv - i had the same sort of thing happen to mine and it turned out that was knackered

I wasn't sure how they'd look either but at the end of the day I decided that they'd hardly be visible once the engine is in, like you say it makes it a bit more individual :) Here's a few more photos of what I've been doing for the last few weeks. Bear with me as there's been quite a bit of progress! I've replaced all the rubber brake pipes with braided ones and fitted new front discs/pads: Engine getting built up and fastened to front crossmember: I got hold of a 4 branch manifold and heatwrapped it: Here's the engine fully built up and ready to be put in (minus the alternator as I had managed to misplace it at some point in the last few months :censored: ): Final shot of engine bay minus engine: And finally the engine back where it belongs: Getting closer to the end now, front bumper etc all put together: And here it is after it's moved under it's own steam for the first time in almost a year: My brothers new project is just in the background of this photo: I took it for a drive round the block and found out there was no power steering, it looks like the pump might have gone or that there is an airlock somewhere. I'm going to take it for a drive tomorrow night hopefully and see if it gets any better. If it doesn't I've got another pump I can try on it. Apart from that the end is almost in sight, I'm going to get it MOT'd this week then I need to run it in before June 30th as it's booked in with Stealth for a remap.

I've made a bit more progress over the last few weeks. The engine is in but not permanently yet as I need to source a 4 branch manifold and would like to put the engine in properley with that fastened on. Here's a couple more pictures:

Are you using MS1 or 2? If you post the config file up I'll have a quick look as well and see if anything looks different to the settings I used.
-
Thanks! Hopefully this will be the end of a few peoples work to get it back up to scratch! Yeah I'm hoping to get the engine back in over Easter, I've just got to finish replacing the insulation on all the engine bay wiring first which is taking me loads longer than I thought it would. I still haven't decided on which ECU to run it on, I still like the idea of MS but am thinking it might just be easier to get the standard ECU mapped. Yeah the yellow is just the shade I was looking for, before the respray it was actually more faded than I realised and I was a little worried that was the 'proper' colour which I wasn't too keen on. I'm going to be putting the D90's (think that's what they're called :) ) back on as I think they really suit the car. It's called C&L Bodyworks in Ollerton (http://www.candlbodyworks.co.uk/). They do all the body work for a garage we know that sells classic Mini's so knew they would do a good job! Thanks for all the comments!

I'd definitely second this advice! I thought I'd got mine running pretty well, the AFR's all looked good across the rev range but I just guessed at the timing and ended up melting pistons :( Well done in persevering and getting it running though, it makes it all the more sweeter when you actually take it for it's first 'proper' drive.

Finally got the car back at the weekend - I'm really happy with the finish: Now the long job of getting everything back on the car starts...
-
Yeah you just pull it out, it fits around the edges of the headlining so you sort of pull it horizontally towards the middle of the sunroof if that makes sense!
-
I went to the bodyshop at the weekend to drop a couple of bits off that I forgot to take to them and managed to get a sneaky shot of what they've done on my car so far: They've got someone coming in to remove all the glass today and they're hoping to have it in primer by the end of the week!

Lucky but costly escape... UPDATED PICTURES
mondy replied to the delta force's topic in General Car Chat
I had almost the same thing happen to my old G60 just after I sold it to a friend  He was just driving along at about 30mph when it suddenly pulled him across the road. He managed to carry on very carefully to my dad's garage and it turned out the front mounting point for the wishbone had almost snapped off. We managed to get a second hand one that was in good condition for him but it's probably worth people getting their local garage to have a real good check over the major non-replaceable parts like this when they get their car serviced! -
This all makes for depressing reading - I've got a BBM charger ready to go on my car once I've finished rebuilding the engine! I did have it on the engine for about 400 miles before the engine rebuild and noticed then that it seemed to get quite hot :( Getting back to your question there's not much you'll need to swap it straight back to the G60 - you'll need the rear mounting bracket and gasket and I think the oil return pipe is slightly different, I don't think there's anything else you'll need though. The outlet pipe that goes to the intercooler might be a bit different as well depending on your setup.

I decided on the BahnBrenner ones (actually made by Ross Racing Pistons) in the end, mainly due to price TBH! They do keep the stock compression ratio as well so not sure if they'd be any use to you.
