Cool thanks for the replies guys - I'll have a word with the people you mention to see what they say...

Hi, I've got a spare G60 engine that I want to uprate and am looking for your opinions of what I should do - I'm considering increasing the capacity to 1.9. I've heard that Bahn Brenner and G-Werks do the relavant pistons - are there any opinions as to which is better if any? Also, I'm not sure what to do with the head - I'll definitely be porting and flowing it but I've heard people mention big valve heads - can anyone recommend somewhere that sells the relevant parts? What sort of hp gains would I expect from this (not including the stuff done to the bottom end)? At present my car has got a 68mm pulley and a chip so I'm guessing I'll also have to change injectors/FPR - would anything else need to be changed? Finally, is it worth lightening and balancing the crankshaft and flywheel at the same time as all this? Thanks in advance, David.

I thought I might have a problem with my blue sensor so I swapped the blue and black one over and the car wouldn't idle properley and kept cutting out - so as I understand it this would suggest that the black one is faulty but the temp gauge seems to work fine - any ideas/suggestions/comments? Cheers, David.

Think I must drive around with my eyes closed because I never see you! Just let me know if you need them...

For those who don't approve of road racing.. don't look here

hmmm - get a file not found error then redirects to a porn site?? -
Yeah it's longer on a passat than a corrado - I might be able to lend you a mech and handle if you want?
-
OK I'll reset it and see if it makes a difference - cheers for the help! I'll let you know if it seems to have made a difference. dr_mat - So far I've been pretty lucky with my car - until the s/charger blew itself to bits! I hope it's not a taste of things to come!

When we checked the timing higher in the rev range it retarded loads with the blue sensor disconnected but once it was connected back up the timing *seemed* ok - does you mean that it shouldn't have been retarding with the blue sensor unplugged? Also, I'm not sure how you set the CO because the lambda sensor brings it to .50 no matter what you adjust - I was told to set the CO pot to 600ohms which I've done. Cheers, David.

It doesn't feel like it drops off but when someone shows you a graph of the power dropping off it kinda makes you think it must do and you just haven't noticed - however, after checking most things and having someone else drive it I reckon there isn't anything wrong with it after all. I'm not going to say what I think of the first rolling road place (Geoff Bloor in Nottingham) except that I will NEVER be going there again and will recommend other people never go there either! Once again thanks for all the replies they've kept me busy for a while!

Right I've checked the timing eventually and at 2000rpm it's at 9deg and it advances through to about 54deg as you rev it higher so that seems OK. I'm beginning to wonder if anything is wrong so I took it to another place just for a quick power run and they said it had 142bhp at the wheels - from what people say the first place hasn't got the best reputation so I'm not going to read too much into the first graph! Anyone got a rough idea of what power I should be expecting from the above mods (68mm pulley, chip and new supercharger)? Cheers, David.

Hello again All parts are from g-werks so there shouldn't be any problems there. I ran the charger in for about 350 miles and haven't given it a lot of abuse yet. I put new plugs in around january this year and have done less than 5000 miles since then. I haven't removed the carbon can. I've checked the fuel pressure and it stays just over 3.5bar all the way to the redline - I've also checked the flow rate and it did 600ml in about 15secs which I think is OK. I've decided that I'm going to take it to another rolling road tommorrow just to make sure that there is actually a problem before I look at anything else! Thanks again for all your suggestions they're much appreciated!
-
dr_mat - is there a way of checking the fuel pressure - I know some cars have a valve that you can fasten a gauge to to check it I'm pretty sure it isn't one tooth out because I had it rolling roaded at the same place before the charger went and it produced about the same figures (slightly higher actually) and that was on standard pulley and no chip! If the throttle wasn't opening properley then would that mean it wouldn't rev as high? One other thing I forgot to mention is I did the test on the MFA last night and it produced 1700 which is well down on what it should be according to the guide on here hence why I'm thinking it's a boost leak. Thanks for the replies!!

Hi, I've recently had a brand new supercharger because the belt snapped on my old one causing a big hole in the top of it! Anyway at the same as the new charger I got a chip and smaller pulley (68mm) for it. I thought it was pretty quick but I took it on a rolling road and I'm not impressed with the graph (attached). As you can see it loses power after 5000rpm. It's also way down on power - they quote 152bhp at the fly which I know means nothing but the wheel figure is only 115bhp - I was expecting more like 140-150 - am I just being over optimistic there? Also, the torque doesn't seem high enough to me either - I thought with the mods I have it should be at least 170-180. Has anyone any ideas what might be causing this loss of power? The bloke on the rolling road said it was because I have the boost return mod and it's causing it not to run right but I can't see any reason why that would cause it - I'm thinking it might be a boost leak somewhere but I've had a quick look and can't see anything obvious - any other things I should be checking? Cheers, David.

Thanks for the replies everyone - I didn't realise there was another butterfly valve on the bottom of the throttle body
-
I've just done the boost return mod to my G60 but it struck me there might be a fairly big downside to it - when you're accelerating do you lose loads of boost through the hole in the bottom of the throttle body? Logic says you would but I don't remember this ever being mentioned when people are talking about it. Cheers, David.

3rd bonnet mod in less than 1 year! F**king LOWLIFE!
mondy replied to stormseeker's topic in General Car Chat
Unfortunately this sort of thing seems to be getting much more common place. I've got an oldish mondeo that I use as a run about and the other week some git jumped on the bonnet as well - luckily my dad managed to knock the dents out a bit so it looks slightly better but has got a nice ripple effect to it! Then the other night some lads went past the house and smacked my corrado's wing mirror - my Mum saw them do it but (luckily for them) I wasn't in at the time. I got back about five minutes after they'd done it and was contemplating getting the baseball bat out and finding them but decided not to since there was no damage (it had just bent back). People just don't seem to respect any else's property these days and all you can hope is that when they finally get something nice that they've worked bloody hard to buy some lout comes and smashes it up. Anyway hope you get this sorted and more importantly that it doesn't happen again! -
As soon as possible hopefully - it was done a couple of months ago and it's letting the car down so I'm gonna have to get it done! I'll let you know his number as soon as I get it.
-
Dave, Could you tell me what the name of the company is that you are talking about - I need to get a dent removed from mine in exactly the same place so I don't wanna waste my time calling them! I've been told to use dent masters but I can't find their number - when I get it I'll let you know if you want. Cheers, David.

If you'd asked this a couple of nights ago I could of took some pictures for you! What you do is remove the 4 screws holding the black fascia around the clocks - 2 at the bottom under blanking plates and two at the top (facing down). Then the facia should slide out. Now remove the two screws holding the clocks in (at the top left and right sides). Now you should be able to tip the clocks forward and rotate them and you should be able to pull them out enough to see a pipe attached to the back of the clocks - on mine it went onto a blue plasticky box thing! Just pull the pipe off this box the t-piece in. It's not very hard to do - it took me about 45 minutes all together including getting the tools out the garage and taking it all apart again becasue I'd routed the pipe in the wrong place!
-
This happened to mine - I fixed it by making a plate and welding to the centre tunnel - any half decent garage will be able to do this. It's a common problem on golfs/corrados etc I didn't remove the interior - just the centre console and bent the carpet back out the way. Then I borrowed some welding blankets of someone and put them around where it was gonna be welded. You need to get the cause of the problem sorted as well - hope this helps!

Cheers - i've decided not to go in the end :( hopefully I'll be able to go next year instead

Hi, Just wondering if anyone knew how much tickets are for this on the day? I looked on the website but can't find any info Cheers.

A lot of companies do this mobile phone tracking thing - I was talking to one at a show a few months back and from what I understand it basically works by telling you which phone mast the phone is connected to. So in a remote place you could have a very wide area but in somewhere like London it could be reasonably accurate - from what I can remember I think I've got that the right way round!
-
Yeah you'd have thought they'd have just said if they didn't want to insure me. Suppose something could have gone wrong with the system as well.
-
Mine is currently just over a grand for a standard G60 TPFT! I haven't got any no-claims because I've been on company insurance since I was 17. Can anyone beat my highest quote of £30,000 (Yes I have put the right amount of 0's in)??
