You replaced the flange with a brand new VW one ?
-
Awesome !! If not just a little anal !
-
Yeah it's a Rado VR6 , i know lots of VW group vehicles are built with plaggy impellers but some guys seem to have a real distrust of them ? A search for a Leon Cupra on autotrader or pistonheads shows lots with the water pump changed for a metal impeller type.

Hi I need to buy a new reasonably priced hydraulic jack and ramps for my new Rado VR6 and just thought someone might have a recommendation or two. What brand and where from please ?
-
Picked up my water pump from TPS on saturday , taking it out of its box i see it has a plastic impeller. Is it a bit anal to be worried by this as i know there are aftermarket ones available with metal impellers ( i paid trade so cost was about same for the genuine one ) I'm also replacing the top radiator flange as it weeps but would you guys recommend doing the thermostat or / any other flanges at the same time as i don't want to replace the old G12++ too many times . I need to get this sorted so i can start procuring the bits for the 288mm front & mk4 rear brake upgrade. Cheers

It's the same colour as my new one , shared much the same prob's too , rear shocks, brakes ,small amount of bodywork. I've also started fettling mine but have been stalled a bit by the broken drivers handle and ( after a 80 mile m/way run in which it ran like a dream especially after the super u/l i put in ) the failed water pump, i'm just plucking up the courage to tackle the water pump and tensioner bearing job. My mechanical skills are perhaps slightly more advanced than yours ( slightly ! ) but the assistance / advice you have received must have been a huge help. I wonder does anyone know of a bodyshop as good as yours was in the yorkshire region ?

288 Front Brakes and MkIV Rears -Part Number Thread
toledo replied to fendervg's topic in Drivetrain
Hi guys Can anyone comment if calipers from a 98 passat with part numbers 8E0 615 423 / 424 will fit onto existing carriers of my Rado VR6 ? Oddly the handbrake springs are external like the dreaded Rado ones but i've not heard of passats suffering the seizure problems. Does anyone have a cheap / good source of the SKF bearings , i read part numbers from another thread but can't find them otherwise and the stealers want a king's ransom for them ! Any help greatly appreciated. -
SUCCESS !!! Sorry didn't mean to shout . Having relocated to UK finally , i bought one last friday, she is a 94L VR6 in ice grey violet pearl with 104,798 miles, standard apart from magnex cat back system and factory centre console guages. She is in good nick and drives well although the connector onto the rad started weeping after run home , she had been stood since october when the previous owner bought his R32. I'm looking to do the 288's on the front and mkIV rear brakes asap. Also considering Koni's or Bilstein B6 dampers as it's still running it's original susp at front ( rears changed at 42,000 ) Has anyone got a list of advised initial maintenance ( including preventative ) they could give me please ? Going to Elsecar tomorrow but will go in my Freetrack as the coolant weep would probably leave me at the side of the road knowing my luck !

Hi everyone from a yorkshireman living in Charente Maritime on the west coast of France........ until we move back to god's county at easter. I can't wait to get back after 8 years away as i have had all the neccessary permits approved and stamped from ' her who must be obeyed ' to get myself a hobby car, and as i spent several years working for VW main dealers. At first i valeted and then later sold corrados and the VR6 created such an impression that has never left me. Therefore i will shortly be in the market for a clean VR6 preferably unmodded ( i want to do it myself ! ) I am delighted to have found such a great site full of knowledgeable like minded Rado lovers .
