fit the later 20v turbo if you want to go that way turboing the orig 16v will be more hassle /money than throwing one of the above in , vw made a g60 supercharged 16v back in those days , but theyre rarer than rare and too much hassle to re create unless you have money to throw away
-
kr is engine code for euro 1800 16v , 9a is the 2.0ltr , abf is the mk3 golf 2.0 16v
-
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Golf-Mk2-1-8-16v-Gti-Inlet-Manifold-and-Injectors-/111596079172?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19fba50844 cheap ish 50mm there , they go for $300 in the u.s doesnt really give more power but moves the power band up a bit
-
theres also the 50mm inlet manifold that we got on euro golfs that never got to usa theres not just a fuel rail to rid of the k jet , some folk have converted the whole lot over to digifant injection or megasquirt but that will be alot of work, or theres bike carbs or webers for the race car noise mk2 golfs are 1984-1991 roughly - i think the u.s got them in 2ltr(9a) with some emissions crap, we only had 1.8(kr) in uk with no emmisions stuff europe got the mk3 gti with a 2.0 (abf) that looks very similar to the above engines but with a more modern electronic fuel injection *** but*** can also be run on the original k jet injection for a almost undectiable install if thats what you wanted
-
the mk2 golf 16v shares the same engine and they had those in the u.s honestly find a abf and all its injection gear to take as a spare
-
can you take an abf in the boot with you ? stealh racing is popular on here , he can do the work and supply parts you will see "man in the shed" mentioned for modified head work this is him https://plus.google.com/102784769955316715201/about?gl=uk&hl=en#102784769955316715201/about?gl=uk&hl=en

its cheaper to fit a 2.0ltr engine like the abf you can also try clubgti for chat on various mods , wur /warm up regulator mod is common and makes a small improvement , otherwise its head mods and cams , 4 branch exhaust manifold etc

yeah thats whats rattling ..i will check the belt another day when its warmer -
you can get differant size teriminals depending on wire size , mostly theyre junior power timer or power timer , vw still sell them , vehiclewiring products , polevolt etc , ebay is usualy cheapest such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50-x-Junior-Power-Timer-Terminals-Contacts-Genuine-TE-Part-Part-No-927770-3-/140987003253?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item20d37af175 then some non insualtedcrimp pliers http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Locking-Crimping-Press-Pliers-Crimper-Clamp-Non-insulated-Terminals-Tool-TU-230C-/301515125678?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4633b3b3ae
-
this does most of them ..infact a thin watchmakers screwdriver or the metal strip from an old wiper does just as well unless you have loads to do http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Laser-3932-Terminal-Tool-Volkswagen-Audi-vehicles-/281581217444?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item418f8c66a4 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LASER-TOOLS-4027-TERMINAL-TOOL-SET-/200824493062?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2ec2129406

g60 help....fitted smal timing belt and now it sounds rank
steveo29 replied to steveo29's topic in Engine Bay
yeah its all how it should be which is whats puzzling me , it is the slightly wider belt that everyone uses , same as what came off drove the car in the garage all working fine , swapped all the belts now it sounds ill , i will take the charger off and try to check it all over before running it anymore cheers for the reply -
any charger experts able to share any thoughts? firstly ive had my g60 years and swapped a few of these small timing belts and kinda thought i knew what i was doing anyway i treated the g60 to new cam belt , serp belt , pas and the small g60 timing belt started the car and theres a nasty clanking sound from the charger area - i whipped off the serp belt and the engine sounds fine without the other bits spinning i fitted the small belt as before , both pulley notches in the straight up position lined up with the casting line on the charger body , span it round by hand and rechecked it a couple of times , pulley was undone by hand with a ratchet and slipped off by hand , no hammering or rough treatment does that correct what ive done ? is the timing that easy to mess up and would i have ruined the charger ? any ideas ? hoping its something stupid but im pretty sure it can only be the charger
-
it stays on
-
the bar thats fitted in the crease is your factory arb , the ones you see held on with clamps are aftermarket
-
yeah mist of easy start ...or pull a plug after its been cranking and see if its wet and smells of fuel or bone dry
-
http://www.helperformance.com/custom-hoses/ they will make one to your specs if you measure what you want , think the ends are 12x1mm
