1. Just ordered one of these today, nearly sh4t myself driving at night in the rain for the first time the other night! I have been used to xenon headlights for the past few years so that was an education in concentration for me! New bulbs next methinks....
2. Gents, Quick question, and I know it will be subjective, but how should the power steering feel on a C with standard wheels and tyres? Is it a fairly unobtrusive power steering on these cars or should it be fairly noticeable at low speeds? I feel that my steering is heavy, but not having driven an older car for a long time cant quite decide if it is just my perception or if there an issue with it. Just looking for a quick straw poll to get a rough idea, or if anyone knwos of any quick tests I can do to check its ok, would be much appreciated. :thumbleft: Dougie
3. Kev, I certainly dont fit with your assumption of A5 owners and I dont think the OP was wanting to be pidgeon holed for the cars he was looking to buy, we get you like the Golf R but it wasnt one of the choices Byrd, that is fairly similar to our old one:
4. I didnt vote, but I am a tad biased, we are on our second A5 now. Our first was a 2 door coupe and our latest one is a facelift daytona grey S-line sportback. One of the reasons for going for the sportback was we had a baby and needed the hatchback and more doors to make it easy getting her in and out. The point Bullfinch made about the doors is a good one, massive on the coupe but not quite as bad on the Sportback, so if you have a narrow drive its something to think about. We have noticed a big difference in the tech from the 2008 model to the 2012 one, built in satnav and the lighting are much more modern and if Im honest, have made the old style led lights look a bit "Halfords" We are the same as you, dont do a lot of miles, so we opted for the 1.8tfsi but specced it up, mainly because it has two single exit pipes either side, (which looks as though it could be a bigger engine than it is) and would rather have xenons, sat nav, s line heated leather etc etc, than a bigger engine. If you do go A5, and judging by what you said about budget, just make sure the windows work ok and are not crunching. Its a common fault and some dealers are fixing under goodwill, if not its a 500 pound bill off the bat. I do like the Scirocco, but for some reason I just dont see it as a coupe and more of a hatchback, style wise. Dougie
5. Bronze or gold type colour???
6. The fabled thermal fuse repair. Worked a treat, as most have said the best 70p you will spend. Dougie
7. Good luck with the project mate. I live in Stirling and work in Falkirk so we may pass each other at some point. Keep an eye out for a Aqua blue one sitting at the side of the road ;-) Mine is a valver and has just been MOT'd for the first time in 4 years. Was running great until the clutch slave cylinder has now deceased, so thats my job this weekend. Luckily we have a 2013 A5 to use so the C is only a Monday toy at the moment.
8. Covered my first 100 miles of Corrado driving! Been using it more than the 6 month old A5 we bought two weeks ago! Sad I know, but it doesnt have a spoiler that goes up on the motorway!!!! Dougie
9. Massivley improved the cars performance figures by shedding about 420 pounds for its MOT. Wrong lbs.....damn. Oh well first time its been MOT'd in three years, needed welding carried out at the two front jacking points and a small patch at the seat belt anchor point. Two rear discs and pads and thats it ready for its back to weekly use. Really enjoyed driving it the couple of miles back to the house and apart from the steering sounding a wee bit creaky (hopefully just because it has been unused for such a long time) all seems well with the wee beastie. Dougie
10. Didnt take any pictures but, Spent hours reaquainting myself with the rear brakes on a volkswagen. Took the pads out, cleaned them up, coppereased all the running surfaces and backs of pads (not the front face of the pads of course!) still had a sticking hand brake. Turns out is is the handbrake cable itself, so new one bought and will be fitted this weekend ready for MOT next week. Woohoo. Oh and washed about 10 years worth of dirt off the wheel arches to find they are blue and in spanky condition! which is a bonus Dougie
11. I have to say I was fortunate enough to drive an Audi R8 V10 Plus a couple of months ago, at an audi open day. Absolutely awesome car power delivery was immense and continuous and the DSG gearbox was perfect. Felt like an A6 around town and turned into a monster once out on the open road. I know everything is opinion, and your opinion isnt right or wrong, but, I have seen this mentioned a couple of times before, and I cannot see any similarity between an R8 and a Corrado. Two opposite ends of the motoring spectrum IMHO. But then I only have a 16 Valver! ;-) Dougie
12. As far as I know a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal
13. Chin up bud, your doing well and getting lots done. Just don't start too many jobs without finishing them as it will get you down and seem like a mountain to climb. Be like me, put new wishbones on a year ago and have do nothing since! Hats off to you, I havent touched the car since our daughter was born six months ago, my projects have consisted of building nursery furniture and making up milk bottles! Dougie
14. Congratulations, hes a wee smasher! He has a look on his face that you have told him something else has broken on the Corrado!

17. HI mate, good luck with the little one, I dont use my Corrado at the moment (although that may change soon) but hopefully I can give you a little info. We had a baby girl (our first) 4 weeks ago and I can only reitterate what was said earlier about not having time for ICE or other stuff like that! Its great though. We currently have an A5 coupe and an A4 Avant, we made the mistake of buying a car seat we liked the look of (Recaro) but unfortunately the base system that is permanent in the car slides back and forward to put the car seat in place. This means that in the A5 the base has to go on the front passenger seat as there is simply not enough room to get the car seat in between the B pillar and the back of the front seat. In the Avant it means that I have to put the front seat as upright as possible. The maxi cosi systems are simply plug straight on, so I think are far more practical and less hasstle for your partner to use. If like us you go for one of those "travel systems" (prams and cot and pushchair in one) (iCandy) they really are quite bulky and to be honest both the avant and the A5 are pretty well loaded up with the stuff, so I am not sure how the C would cope. There is also the issue of loading a car seat into a two door car, it is definately much easier to load into the Avant than try to get it in behind the seats of the A5. Sorry for the long winded post, but I hope it helps. Dougie
18. Think it would just be general recommisioning work, fluids mainly. Giving it a really good visual inspection underneath for corrosion to brake lines etc. Checking condition of tyres (cracking etc) . I am assuming you wont be driving it in anger until it is MOT'd so the majority of those defects will be picked up on at the testing station. So really you want to be looking at the braking system too, pad /disc condition, pedal feel/fluid level. Flushing/draining the engine oil system and filter out to get rid of any nasties, then getting it turned over a few times to get the oil to the top of the engine before starting it up in earnest. Probably replacing the coolant fluid as well, but this can bring on problems of its own, but I think as has been said before if a head gasket goes after doing this it was probably on its way out already. Not an exhaustive list, but I guess slow and steady and all this is on the assumption that its not been run at all for the two years, Dougie
19. Mask it with perfume...that will throw her off the car trail. Disclaimer; This may not be sound advice being given
20. Offside and nearside are relative to the pavement/kerb apparently. Its the only piece of "old school" motoring terms I have remembered from the mountains of info my old man heaps on me!
21. Hi mate, Good to meet you the other day. The cuppa and biscuit were very much appreciated. Top bloke Dougie
22. Ok guys, thought I would update this a little. Have really just been pottering away slowly with this in the garage. Just need to free off the back brakes then it should be ready for its retest. Got busy with the clay bar and polish: Replaced the wishbones and bushes as well as ARB bushes. Old: New: Have also been removing screws in and around the engine bay area and immersing them in rust converter overnight, dont have pics yet but it is working well. Also replaced the number plate light casing with a newly painted replacement. Dougie
23. Ahh cool, the 1.9 is pretty bullet proof. I have the 170bhp model, its not that great on fuel (about 40 mpg) but it does pull very well. It wont be a problem getting a set of wheels for the car, like I said, dont think I would consider anything less than 18's if your going to the bother of changing them. Dougie
24. Hi Walesy, Afraid I dont, they went onto the old one when I traded it in at Audi. Im assuming yours is a diesel? You have probably found it already but this is a good forum for info: http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/forum.php There is a lot of stuff on there. If yours is the 2.0litre lump Audi are doing a recall on all to replace the injectors FOC. I have had a few issues with mine so Im actually glad I bought it from a main dealer as I would have been a few squid out of pocket by now. Its a pretty solid car for the most part though. You will enjoy it. Dougie
