    Body Repair

Hi mate, I had a look at the advert for the grey car, its a late model so although your early wing may fit on, it would not look correct as goldfing3r said, it has more flared arches. I do like the grey car, interested to know why they fitted a manual choke to it? Dougie
  2. Stuart, It is probably better to have a go with the wheel off. At the top if you look at the bracket side on, it is almost "s" shaped. This loops over the top of the beam/hub assembly. It can take quite a bit of force to then push it down enough, so you can clip the bottom part of the bracket on as seen in your second picture. At the moment the loose one will just be being held in place by the brake flexi hose. Hope that made some sense! Dougie
  3. Unless I am looking at these wrong, it should clip on just the same as the the one in the later picture, its the bracket that the rear brake hose goes through on its way to the caliper. I would try and compare them to see if they are definately the same. Dougie
  4. Do you mean G60 owners? ;-)
  5. Driving an A5 with 20" wheels that attract kerbs like noones business I can relate to that.
  6. High ride height and tiny wheels lost in the arches, certainly make me feel like I am at the forefront of fashion!
  7. Oh the wife would kill me! Already have a set on the car and don't need a set but..... Please don't throw them, PM me if your thinking of ditching them, as I could arrange something at short notice. Dougie
  8. Lol the V8/V10/V12 club then Jamie! Aint no replacement for displacement as the Yanks say. Anyway back on topic for you....
  9. Wot he said!! Lol beaten to it. Hope you get it sorted
  10. Hi mate, I have just bought (in the last month) a few of these clips from VW heritage.(As I am about to change the foliage cover seal) They took about two weeks to come from da vaterland though. I will look out the part number for you when I get home. Dougie
  11. A spot of vaseline on the wiper blades should sort the issues out. ;-)
  12. I would echo the previous post. Apart from possibly the challenge of trying to build something, the old mantra tends to be "dont build what you can buy" If your maybe into too much money for the 16V it might be worth breaking it for spares and using the money to fund the VR purchase. Just my tuppence worth
  13. Personally I thought it just made me a better driver when the spoiler raises. I go from being Damon Hill to Ayrton Senna.
  14. Is the wobble speed related? And I dont mean just under power or braking. Generally if its wheel balancing the feeling will increse/decrease with speed. Have you jacked the car up and tried both front wheels for play? As has been said earlier check the wheel nuts, but I would also check that both front wheels are seated correctly against the hub/disc. Unsure of the set up on the VR, but could a possible suspect be the balljoints? If everything seems ok underneath, you could swap the fronts and rears just to take the wheels/tyres out the equation. Get it seen to as soon as bud, you dont want a wheel flying off at any sort of speed. Dougie
  15. Very enjoyable, looks like it was a proper restoration and a decent back story to the cars. I have to admit I was waiting for him to bend it round a skip when he was badly hooning round that industrial estate!
  16. If you remember the Corrado I spotted at the classic car auction which sold for £2730, seems to have resurfaced on everyones favourite auction site: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-CORRADO-16V-/261449963168?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3cdfa1d6a0 Shame it went to a trader and not an enthusiast. Dougie
  17. On the C, removed the bonnet stay to "de rust", Jammed a brush in to hold it up and trashed my pristine "no longer available" bonnet sound proofing! Not on the C, first car was a triumph spitfire, while admiring its smooth tickover with the bonnet up, leant over to check something and placed my hand on the distributor cap. Woke me up! On my Mk1 Gti, was transferring it from my house to get painted. Had removed the bonnet latch and went down the road to the paint sprayer.....boom, bonnet flew up smacked the roof. Man with spanners is a dangerous thing. Dougie

  19. I hope you mean its the car that's going to break this week and not you bud! No worries, will speak to you soon.# Dougie
  20. James, Thanks, I think I have sourced one from Doodles. I will keep you in mind if it doesnt work out though. Dougie
  21. Good luck in the new venture. It will be an amazing time for you all. Funny you are worried about how your wife and son will get on, I have a friend that went to Australia for a number of years and it was actually him that failed to settle properly. His wife actually had the time to befriend other mums in the street etc. Dont worry about the price of Corrados, I still reckon in 5-6 years time, mint ones will still be well under 10k. (Ducks as this will no doubt be resurected to prove me wrong at some point!) Plus you will always be able to come back to the sunny west coast for some much deserved rain every now and again. Dougie
  22. Its been ages since I have added to this, and to be honest, I haven't really added to it at all! I have been busy with the car and have been enjoying driving it since September last year. I will be a bit more active with this and not be lazy and put write ups and pictures as I go along. Car required some welding for its MOT, mainly at the jack point at the front on both sides and at the seat belt mounting points behind the front seats. New discs and pads were put on as well, but apart from that it went through it's MOT. Since then I have been fixing problems (mainly maintenance items along the way. Clutch slave cylinder was first to go, not surprising as the car had been sat for approximately three years, interesting drive home with no clutch! Uprated Headlight loom fitted from one of the suppliers on here and the difference is incredible, highly recommended mod. Heater blower motor started the "only working on speed 4" thermal fuse bought and soldered in, but unfortunately the blower motor packed in shortly after (during the cold snap of course!) So new one purchased and fitted et voila heat again. Fast forward to the last couple of weeks and a few things started to go south on it again. Front wheel bearing replaced and both rear wheel bearings and discs/pads replaced also. This weekend saw the old rear suspension units removed and new bilstein B4s fitted, the pictures below show the new discs and pads (excuse the yellow calipers!) And the old: Starting to gather a few parts that still need to be fitted, complete sunroof from a MK3 as slide only on mine. Complete rear beam to be cleaned and repainted then refitted with all new parts on car. Complete aqua blue tailgate to replace mine as there are some rust issues around the seams behind the rear lights. That's me up to date, no pictures of the car as its manky! But externally still exactly as it was, so I'm still standing by my mantra of keeping it standard. Dougie
