1. I'm doing the headgasket on mine at the moment and I've got the injectors out so I'm debating getting them done, mine has had fairly rough idle but I always thought it may be the ISV which I plan on cleaning while it's off as well. I'll check out the link you posted David, thanks for the info
2. As per the title, has anyone had this done and seen much improvement from having it done? I was reading engines with 100k+ milles see an improvement and I've now got my injector rail out so I'm thinking about having them sent off somewhere. Also on the subject, I was waiting for this episode to come out and he semi covers it, if you haven't seen it already, pretty sure the Corrado VR6 was 188bhp on paper though.
3. is a Bentley manual a piece of software? I'm confused... I thought it was a book?
4. Quick one about the Bentley manual I have it on PDF, as good as it is it can be a bit sloppy reading it on PDF, the Bentley manual CD I keep seeing, does anyone know if it has an interface simliar to what you would get with autodata etc... to jump to sections or is it just a copy of the PDF on a CD if it does have the interface, does anyone know where the CD can be obtained because nothing is coming up on eBay Ta
5. So after replacing a lot of exhaust parts to try and sort out the noise I've been getting from my engine it's looking like the head gasket may have gone. So I'm going to start to strip down the head with help from a mate who works in a garage, i've got a Bentley manual ready but anyone got any words of advise before I start to get stuck on that will help me not be left with a mess I think I'm going to take a load of pics of everything before hand before I start to remove parts for when I come to put it back together and also back everything that came off one section together and label them up which I hope will make it a lot easier but if anyone has any other tips from expereince it would be great. I figured while I'm taking everything off I may as well start to replace old parts that look tired and also get some powder coating done on everything so it looks more tidy in the engine bay as well.
6. Cheers dude, I'll get to replacing the striker and hopefully never have the issue again
7. Ok, so I don't seem to have the plastic retaining clip at all, hasn't fallen in behind the door card, does anyone know if they have a part number so I can order one?
8. Just found this picture of it fitted, I'm going up to take a look now and see if I can sort it out, hopefully nothing's missing that is needed but more than likely will be
9. As long as it's the cement with low concentration of asbestos used then it will have to do for now, just had another look and there are 0 garages to rent near to me.
10. Cheers man, I'm gonna get the striker replaced and then put it back in and see if I can get it releasing right and nip it up with some locktight, hopefully that sorts it
11. Ta, here's one I did of my daily, getting to be pretty handy with the DSLR
12. Well, I've just been on the phone to an asbestos industrial surveyor who go out to sites where the premises contain high amounts of asbestos and he has sort of put it in to perspective for me, as soon as I explained it was a garage that was built he pretty much described how it looked and that it may have some damaged from weather etc... and was pretty much spot on with what it is, apparently what they used was cement mixed with asbestos, which is why it's thick like plywood and contains 18% asbestos, he told me which kind it was but it's pretty much white asbestos. He said even if they surveyed it and found it did have asbestos that I'm not really in need to worry, if you broke a fresh piece of even now you'd be pretty unlucky apparently to release any fibers because of the low content of it. He just told me what I need to do, I'm going to remove a very small section of it where it has been broke before and send it in so they can check what type of asbestos it is, but he said even when the confirm if it is there's not much that can be done and he said it would be fine to use it, you have to apparently get this stuff and run it through a grinder just to be able to release the fibers They're pretty reputable, so I'm going to send in a piece to him and let wait for info on it, but I'm not half as worried as I was before. http://www.asbestos-surveys-uk.co.uk/
13. Yea, it's not the best but as I said, not really a large amount of garages in the area to pick and choose, I've been looking out for one for a while. The thing is with this apparently it's this guys land and he rented it out to someone who had the garage put up, she's moved now so he is left with the garage, so in theory all I'm renting is the land, I don't think he really cares what I do there so I'm wondering if it would be best to get out someone who can remove the asbestos and I get some wooden sides put up and then have the roof removed
14. I just really wanted to check what you'd originally suggested, you mean use some locktight on the screw that attaches the handle to the door to keep it tight?
15. Yea absolutely spot on, even then the door handle is screw is tight you can still sort of pull the handle away, that's basically how I've managed to open it in the past. What is it that I will need to do?
16. Here are some pics of the interior Am I working in some kind of death trap? Or just being soft
17. As I now have the corrado close to do work I thought the first job I'll do is the door handle, it never worked right, you sort of have to grasp it with your hand and thumb and push it to be able to get it to open, I purchased the striker kit to repair it but I've just had the door handle out and the striker seems fine Am I best just changing it out for the new striker and seeing if I'm able to use the lock, or is there something else that can be done?
18. Not a bad idea, I might see if I can source some wood cheap, if not I might go down this route, would help keep the car nice and dry as well
19. cheers for all the info guys, it's funny because I was talking to my barber while getting my hair cut about it and he pointed to one of the light fixtures, it had a new style lamp clipped in to what looked like an old bracket which he explained, turns out the roof is asbestos and they couldn't remove the old bracket when the light went so they had to put a new one in and clip it in. By the looks of it he has had the roof painted, which I assume is to stop any dust particles etc... so I may do the same, or just put a skinned layer of wood around the inside of it, just attache it to the wooden beams... should make it look more tidy inside as well 2nd attempt to attache a pic of the garage, not the best because I had to do it at night
20. I've managed to obtain a garage near to my house to store my VR6 in and get her sorted, which is really handy because it is within walking distance of my house, however the guy explained it's got an asbestos roof, which did put me off a bit because of the dangers you surrounding it but for the price and the proximity I just decided to get it. I'm sure someone on here might have come across asbestos before, or hoping someone has and knows the dangers about it, everyone keeps saying "it's fine as long as you don't disturb it", thing is it turns out it's about 90% asbestos... should I start wearing some of the filtered masks from now on when working in there? or is that going over the top and is it just a case of as long as I don't drill in to it it will be fine any info on it would be handy, just as long as it's not "you shouldn't have got it and just gone out and got another" like there's a large abundance of garages around, because it has taken me a good year to even find this one in my area Here is a pic of said garage, isn't the best there is, me and a friend are thinking about getting some thin wood and going around and putting a skin of it up on the inside to help lower the chances of knocking the asbestos cheers
21. Had this noise start on my VR quite some time ago, replaced the exhaust manifolds and gaskets which were looking worn, however it didn't cure the problem so I was forced to SORN the Corrado and store it at a friends Now got a MK5 GTI but I still miss hitting 50mph and knowing something at the back of the car has just changed, so I went and started it today in hopes to find out what the issue is and try and get her back on the road for weekends This is the sound it's making, it did do it intermittent, but now it does it all the time Any ideas what it could be would be great, as it's no longer a daily I can start to try different bits
22. So this is the gasket of the side that is blowing, I don't know much but I'm pretty sure it's not meant to be like this Just ordering some new ones this week as I've got some replacement manifolds
23. Hate to have to bring this up again, but yea you was right, gearbox mount was replaced and it is still doing it, also did the HT leads and plugs which needed doing so I've done a few jobs Just ordered a new exhaust manifold to replace the old one, not sorted the down pipe yet but one step at a time I guess, the knocking however is still there as well, so the mount didn't help sort this but I couldn't see how the knock could be from the exhaust manifold now Could the cracked manifold cause the knocking, sounds like heat shield getting knocked to me but I don't know
24. So I'm in work this weekend, so I left my car at a mates to replace the gearbox mount, Just been sent this picture of my old one guessing they're oil filled and it has leaked out good and proper, would this contribute to the exhaust opening? anyone think when I get the new one in it will help stop the noise it's making
25. Much appreciated to you sir Going to get on it this week and get her back up and running, like I said it sounded exhausty to me I just couldn't understand why it was doing it under load but what you said makes sense I might just get a 6 branch and have all of it done at once ---------- Post added at 9:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 9:31 PM ---------- Much appreciated to you sir Going to get on it this week and get her back up and running, like I said it sounded exhausty to me I just couldn't understand why it was doing it under load but what you said makes sense I might just get a 6 branch and have all of it done at once
