Hi ya there is a thread on here detailing the power steering fluid topic but for a quick reference from GSF you can get Febi Bilstien green fluid its got to be green also Volks/Audi do their own branded same green fluid not much price variation either....think its G2 but don't quote me it takes about a litre if I remember correctly ...the only golden rule I am sure of is that is green not pink/red. Never let people who dont own old cars touch yours.
Vw.bones replied to Fulltimejunglist's topic in General Car Chat
You know guys we all have the same understanding here...I completely relate to the kids in the back seat thing and the seat lever and the garages who dont seem to give a stuff.....you are 100% rite when you say these cars need to be driven with understanding and care and if I am not mistaken more than a little skill...I guess we are carers and a lot of the rest of the world are not or just dont take time to think for a nano second that they are dealing with 20 plus year old motors and with that brings its own amount of worries.... But ultimately they dont have the grin factor as we all do when we close our drivers door and spark up our babies...they may take our seat bolsters or door catches or scuff our seat backs but ...they will never take our ..............GRIN  -
Well guys I am 44.... have to say I was playing around with golf GITs in the mid 90s you name it I did it....then got myself a Honda or two ( S2000...Integra Type R...then a Mitsubishi Evo 8 ... all way more powerful than the golfs...Finally came back to the Vdub side and got myself a 2 ltr valver.....And have to say nothing I've had makes me grin the way my C does....Love it to bits.....Bucket loads of charm and presence...I have lived my life pretty well with my motors...but the(VW thing) is a bug that once you have you always have !!! for me anyway..

Hi ya seriously man...enjoy your ride first...as per everyone has commented....for me Robrado has it ...complete service items Oil, power steering fluid, gear box fluid, coolant, plugs, filter, fuel filter...brake fluid...in fairness I picked up mine with a full service history BUT... still did all the above and honestly they needed doing irrelevant of how recent the services had been...easy jobs and really brings peace of mind to know your all clean and running fresh fluids...All the best with your motor fella. Have to say I am loving the feed back from this thread as for myself I live in halesowen in the westmidlands I would love to find a friendly master mechanic..like its been said before these rare guys are worth their weight in gold. Bones

Completely and whole heartedly agree with you...I over the years had a numerous golfs for a while I defected to the japs and run a Integra type R ...S2000...Mitsubishi Evo 8 so as you tell I have had to find various Garages and mechanics and in honesty I have have NEVER felt at ease when I have picked up any of my cars....toooooo many jobs and examples to list but here is one...had a 16v mk2 golf gti...fab car truly...but one day the bonnet catch cable snapped so found a independent Vw specialist to do the job. All fair do the job was sorted in a couple of hours and if memory serves correct cost was about £50 quid ok I thought cant argue with that....picked up the car and found out driving home I had no head lights ??strange I thought so me being me stuck my head under the bonnet and found that they hadn't re plugged in my head lights not a big grip but honestly come on HOW AMATEUR....that was about 15 years ago since I have gone out of my way to do as much of my own work as possible... But you are rite it is incredibly hard to find honest trust worthy mechanics sad to say...I do have one or two place I think are fab but.....there is always a but ( their labour rate is approximately £75 per hour but at least these people show you what and where they have repaired and always give me back the knackered bits to show me ) but these are my last resort when I have my back against the wall. Great thread topic fella. All the best Bones
