  1. hey all, having some fun collecting some parts for my KR engine corrado and in the process of having some work done too. Decided to back-order the december 2010 issue of PVW (i seem to have misplaced mine!) to take a look at how Abbas Anwar's 16v corrado managed 200bhp... and from what ive read im alittle confused; now, im not calling names or pointing fingers but i cant understand how this figures been achieved...? the only performance mods mentioned are a custom straight through exhaust matched with a four branch mani, modification to the air box and some custom work on the intake piping - usually the engine section mentions everything so i cant see why he would have left anything out? im not missing the fact that he has gone down the lightweight route too which is great and from what i can see very sucessful, but i would think even still 200bhp/ton still sounds a bit much? anyone know the owner and can pitch in? would love to know how these sort of results have been achieved. from what ive read, the 200bhp mark, (or even really close) isn't really achievable without the 2.0L bottom end swap, fairly extensive headwork + all the mods mentioned above, no? would love some input! sorry if thishas been mentioned before, did a relativly quick search.... matt
  2. HOLY POO! im struggling to insure mine now haha! good lad :thumbleft:
  3. good lad! im a contractor so it has to be on my 'crapberry curve' if its during work!! :camp:
  4. hahahaa! i have watched the figures now and again which shows how many users are online at any time - and yes... there seems to be a steady number during the day, PLUMMET at around 5pm and then rise back up again in the evening! So own up, who heres sneaks a few minutes/hours at work  i know im one of them!!

    Hello

not from around that area but am happy to say i have that model too and am getting stuck into it! so if you have any problems i'll try and help out - at the momment they have to be throttle body/manifold/radiator problems though
  6. i see, so unless im willing to put up with all the power being right towards the top end, then best to stay with stock cams? they are pretty lairy enough... just thought it might bea shot at a few more horses while the heads apart
  7. hey all, im sure we're all familiar with how amazing the corrado headlight looms are (!) but i have a problem with high beam - they dont work! the car seems to have always had starnge lights since i brought it, but it seems different to the usual comments about crud lights... so, sidelights come on okay (green light on switch), dipped beam comes on okay (light goes out on switch), as you flick the stalk to high beam though (at the point where you would be flashing someone etc) its really nice and bright, but then as you let go it goes dimmer than when the stalk is held back if you know what i mean! in other words, high beam is still brighter than dipped beam, but still not as bright as the momment the stalk is pulled towards you... and to make things better, high beam stopped working all together today (when the stalk is pulled towards you they work but as soon as you let go - demanding high beam - there are no lights at all! and no blue light on the dash to say they're on). are all the fuses under the dash (drivers footwell)? or are there seperate ones for the lights? also, i did the good deed of adding a blade fuse in the earth wire behind the switch in cab (although mine was top right as though looking at the switch, not top left as said in the 'how to guide'...?) and noticed some s****tly done wiring consiting of twisting them together and a bit of tape - i have since soldered all these properly but to no gain (other than satisfaction!) i was wondering how hard it would be to make up a FULL loom for the lights/possibly horns etc too (as all the wiring looks crappy to be honest), and if anyone can find a diagram of the complete headlight loom (not just the part people are replacing with the uprated section - or is it built into the entire car loom? i have all the gear to make one and maplins is only 20mins away... any advice at the momment would be appreciated! sorry for the essay
  8. anybody know the answer? would it be a case of just ABF cams/pulley swap into my KR or would they use different caps or anything? advice needed asap please!
  9. just an update along with another query... i stripped the head and it is now in the hands of Paul @ TMI (leighton buzzard) who is sorting the head for me - he said he isnt doing much with the inlet side as you want a little roughness, hes polishing the exhaust ports out, regrinding and '3 angling' (?) the valve seats and skimming it again for me. I was wondering though after reading through various threads; whilst its apart, im not going the whole shabang due to $$$ but a set of ABF cams sounds likea good idea? theres a very detailed camshaft stufy on clubgti which shows a minimal gain from the exhaust cam but quite a significant gain on the inlet camshaft along with 1degree of overlap, i take it these (if i wanted them) are a straight swap/direct fit on my KR head? is there any reason i shouldnt, or are KR cams (the ones i have) more suited really? if it helps, i love top end power :bonk: and am not really fussed about loosing a little grunt lower down if thats the case...? Paul has the cylinder head for a few weeks so ive got plenty of time to swap my cams if it sounds right... comments appreciated!
  10. well ive got some help off here if no-one else yet haha! great advice guys, will widen the search for a golf 4-2-1 then, best of luck rorgasm - sorry i am of no assistance!!
  11. im another going down the 16v route! currently my spare head (the one with larger inlets) is at an engineering place being polished (exhaust side) and smoothed out inlet side, angled valve seats and another skim over. have the larger inlet manifold (50mm) as its said to help out top end - although theres a compromise to be had lower down - and doing a bit of DIY to the airbox and intake piping i am also however stuck for locating 4 branch mnaifolds for the valver engines (mines the 1.8 but still...) they seem to be all for golfs or left hookers??? have read that the standard manifold is not too bad though and can be improved with a good bore out internally too... good luck and stay clear of the 6 cylinder dark side!! :bonk:

    Overcooling

hi pal, havent really got much advice to give except to let you know mines about the same! on the motorway; water sits at about 80 (line under the middle one) and can get up to the line above middle (100) in traffic, and oil temp is usually 88/90 whilst driving (motorway - towns different mind...) and i to have seen 106 max. ive also changed a large amount of this which would affect these temps and it runs the same as it did before really, just have peace of mind now!
  13. thanks for the advice, as you say, if only a little improvement, its still improvement so i'll definatly go through with something i think! 300 quid was for exhaust ports ONLY - polished (not makng them necessarily bigger), he then said he would have to re-do the valve seats, and then have to re-skim the head. This is also as long as i bring him a bare head (currently built up with valves/cams in etc...) so it looks like ive got my afternoon of stripping it down sorted! (and dont worry, theres a very good read-through on clubgti im following!) thanks for all the advice so far!
  14. yeah thats who ive seen who gave me the £300 ish quote for polish of the zaust ports, valves reground and another skim... so the £300 quote i got doesnt sound too bad then? that is for polishing though, not fully gas flowed, think i might go for it, local too!
  15. cheers pal, will have to check it out! managed to get a rough quote from a local place near me; and this is to bring the head to him bare, with the valves loose; a full polish of the exhaust port side, which he says will then need the valve seats re-doing, and finally another head skim, and possibly reassembly for +/- £300 - this sounds like a lot to me but unfortunatly i can imagine the amount of work that goes into it? he also said he would leave the inlet ports alone too... was hoping to get the whole thing flowed really, anyone had theirs done?
  16. hey guys, got myself a spare cylinder head which has already been reconditioned along with vapour blasting and a skim to the face, looking to get the next level work done - i.e. gas flowed and/or port polishing... have seen some DIY attempts before and i really dont want to ruin mine! does anyone know anybody/comapny/anyone on here(?) that does this sort of work around the leighton buzzard/milton keynes area? I've emailed a company called 'blrengineering' for some quotes but there based in surrey so its about a 1.5hr drive for me which i dont mind but i would have to drop off/pick up again... does anybody have any idea also of rough costs? not really sure what im after to be honest, just a very good clean up and improvement of air flow (cylinder head supposedly the big restriction on the KR engines) any help appreciated! thanks matt

    hot hot hot!

thanks guys, think i'll get round to doing the lot asap!! mucho appreciated

    hot hot hot!

hey guys, looks like a common problem due to some of the other threads about but after my headlights have been on for a while the switch in the cab tends to get very hot (on the surface) you can keep your finger pressed on it but only just... after seeing the 'fire preventive' thread im now ****ting a packet! would you recommend an uprated wiring loom? car is completely original and wiring could look better tbh... really dont want something going bang or up in flames - or do i just need to do the in-line fuse on the earth wire (top left brown?) returning fro mthe switch instead? advice needed guys! standard bulbs i believe, thanks! mattt
  19. saw the same black one ive been seeing for a while now in cherrycourt way Ind. estate, leighton buzzard - vr6, aftermarket wheels only i think... anyone on here? and got a glimpse of a dark coloured one parked outside a house on my way into bletcheley (coming from bypass way) looked like an aftermaerket 'zaust, oval tailpipe!
  20. just seen this from supersprint and was wondering whether anyone had fitted this to their 1.8 16v? looks like it would be epically loud which is not really what i was after but i just found out jetex are apparantly out of stock and are not getting anymore until the new year, i think mine might fall off before then! its not stainless so i wonder what the quality/longtivity of it would be? also it doesnt mention bore size - can anyone shed some light on this product? cheers! http://www.aktivperformanceparts.co.uk/corrado/supersprint-vw-corrado-performance-exhaust-18i-16v-2127322-399221-.php
  21. long time ahead to bring this back up but i've just seen this (^) link and cant quite believe the price!? It equates to about £58 - for a full polybush kit?! (i searched for the 16v version however) but im a little confused as when you go to checkout it doesn't seem to add postage costs, even when paypal states that my address is in the UK - surely not free international shipping too?? anyone from UK brought from here?
  22. thanks pla! for a minute there, it really looks as if the subframe would get in the way!! have you changed a manifold yourself then? fitted an aftermarket one? what did you go for?
  23. hi guys, been looking for a little while now and am really struggling to find a suitable manifold (that will fit!) for my kr engine C. It seems that everywhere sells them off the shelf for the golf kr but am i right in saying i couldnt buy one of these as they have issues with steering/knocking etc...? Looks like im going for a jetex system shortly after christmas and wanted to do it all at once really... (on another topic - it looks as though the manifold is a bit of a pig to get off - yay or nay?) any ideas/links would be appreciated and i have searched through the 'what exhaust' thread but it seems most of it is about the cat-back systems. thanks in advance! :bonk: matt
  24. thanks for the advice guys, sounded promising but as you say, if the whole systems welded then it has to be cutt to be removed again! bit silly... think i'll fork out the extra £60 (by the time i've travelled there etc) and get myself the jetex system (supposidly 3 box system is not a lot louder than stock) which i could also take apart, fit bits one at a time and do some maintanance whilst im under there too! happy motoring :thumbleft:
  25. sounds alright! can i ask did they weld the system to the manifold then or is it joint via bolts/flange/clamp whatever...? only thing is im probably going to change the manifold too but at a later date as i cant afford both right now!! and i dont want to have to grind what theve done off and then re-attach it
