11. Booking our ferrys this week :D! Still need to find somewhere to stay nearby though. Any suggestions from anyone who's been there? Ben
12. Is that what it is? How can this happen? The head gasket was in quite a bad way!! Nah I'm not re boring it mate. It's sort of just being built so I can learn how it all works. Was hoping to swap it with my 2.9 when I do the chains, just so I can still use it! I might just do my chains over a weekend now though. Ill look into the valve work later on cheers
13. Also any tips on removing and cleaning up the valves? Can you re-seat the valves yourself or is this a job for the machine shop? Ben
14. Got round to removing the cylinder head yesterday. Here's what it looks like... What would people suggest I clean it up with? There is some corrosion in one of the cylinders! I don't think there's any damage to the walls so would cleaning all pistons/cylinder walls be ok to do? Or should you not touch them? I was thinking of removing the crankshaft and pistons and soaking/cleaning properly! If I did would it be ok to just build it back up with the same parts? If not, what else should I make sure I do? Here's some pics of the pistons. The piston with the corrosion/rust is the back row, nearest to the right (looking at the car from front) The shatty piston ^ All other pistons are like this ^ I didn't get chance to turn the engine over as I got called away but ill be doing that ASAP ! Sorry if pics are huge or don't show up, my tapatalk a trying to charge me more money to load pics!! Cheers Ben
15. Isn't there 20 head bolts? I'm in the process of doing this too so will be following this :) Cheers Ben
16. This is awesome Pete. High fiiiiive :)
17. Cheers for that roger. I'm continuing with the engine on Friday so ill update the situation then :) I would change the tensioner to the later type but I'm not planning on keeping the engine in there for too long. I'm saving to do all the chains/tensioners/guides on my original engine but just wanna chuck this in there while its being done so I've still got a daily!

The milltek's fitted! And it sounds amazing ! The old exhaust came off so easy I couldn't believe it!! Had the old 1 off and the new 1 on in under an hour on my mates drive. The clamps were totally rotten but with 1 hit with a hammer they split straight off. The old system is still in ok condition apart from the centre suitcase. Are you meant to drop the rear beam to get the standard exhaust off? I ended up chopping it up Woops Ben ---------- Post added at 9:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 8:39 AM ---------- The milltek's fitted! And it sounds amazing ! Put the milltek on yesterday! The old system was still in pretty good condition apart from the centre box. 1 hit with the hammer and the clamps came off which was good, then all the pipes just slid off !! Which was even better! Ended up taking less than an hour to do. It's crazy how much lighter the milltek system is and the noise is lovely! Almost standard when ticking over but when you floor it..........all the smiles :D ---------- Post added at 8:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 8:18 AM ---------- The milltek's fitted! 20. Hi guys I've somehow bent one of the oil filter housing bolts. It's one of the long ones as there is 2 long and 1 short. Anyone got one lying about ? Cheeeeeers Ben
21. Hey guys So I've removed the cams and I still can't crank the engine over by hand!! The valves should be out of the way now :( Anyone got any ideas? Can't find anything on search! Also the head gasket has been snapped where the chains go through it! I don't have to get the head skimmed when I change the head gasket do I? Are all vr6 head gaskets the same? What size spline bit do I need for the head bolts? T90? The top tensioner pad is in ok condition with only a few little marks in it which is good! And the plastic guide is pretty much brand new aswell. Sorry for all the questions, Thanks in advance Ben
