Anyone used HALTECH stand alone management
biggerbigben replied to biggerbigben's topic in Engine Bay
laptop connects through a serial output, via the relevant wire to the ECU. Laptop has been used both on mains and batt. And I don't have another computer as y other one runs XP and the software dosen't work on that! Only ME, 98, 3.11, 3.1 and less. Going to put 98 on the computer tomorrow and see what happens. Think the software might be crashing but I've unistalled it many time and reinstalled it and nothing...? -
Anyone used HALTECH stand alone management

I use win ME on my laptop, funny thing is that it loaded up the map fine about 6 months ago, haven't touched the laptop since then and now it dosen't want to connect. Normally it wil say 'connect haltech' if the lap tops not speaking to the ECU but nothing!!! ???? Might put 98 on it tomorrow and see what happens, i'm 80% sure its the laptop end not the ECU... :?: -
I'm having a problem trying to upload a new map to my Haltech ECU from my laptop, it just doesn't seem to want to connect at all, I tried all sorts of this like reinstalling etc and I'm pretty sure the ECU has power, any one got this setup / played with the software....? ideas? Annoying, just went to Jabbasport today to have a spin in a 340bhp mk2 Golf and picup a new map for my car which should get it through an MOT but can't load the map...

Think they are about £50 each I had to get a new one, but whether they are still made I'm not sure... Does this mean you are still going 4WD? -
I know where your coming from on that score, its been 2 weeks since I laid a hand on the beast.... got the pleasures of wiring to look forward to, can't be arsed to be totally honest... its too cold!
-
I agree, but I've been in one. They do sound amazing don't get me wrong but so does an R32 with the miltech exhaust, cams and chip! 300bhp and many Db's of sound!

24V Renshaw - 24V V6 - Just read the whole thread!!!!

Jay, The second picture you posted is my current PC background, a nice pic.... -
Awesome, I know what they sound like as a friend (Guy Heartly) has an R32 with the cams, exhaust and chip... one of the best sounding cars ever! Might even be better than a Aston V12 with sports exhaust or a TVR....or even a normal 12v VR6

I just used the normal rallye brackets, everything at the rear is factory apart from the exhaust although fuel tank is about 2cm out, but this is not an issue. I'll try and find a pic... -
it does say Gay...heheheh

I've driven the S-type twin turbo diesel (the sports version!!). Its a monster, probably the best car i've ever driven! (not including the corrado obviously!). I liked it better than the XK8 I drove on the same day and that had 4l V8 in it!!! Timo. I rest my case....!
-
Diesels are pretty good now, they are as quick, in some instances they are quicker than petrols, they do 50mpg and they have better torque for overtaking, they are cheaper to run...and some are not loud or smelly... BMW, mercs maybe not the VAG cars yet.. Take the new Jag S-type twin turbo diesel... look at the performace figures then get back to me.... awesome. I hated them before I had one, overtaking is made so easy with them!

what happens if they have 4wd and 300+ bhp... surely it would be wise to have a cage fitted, just in case....???
-
