Yes this is my big worry...Most of the time it hasn't worked so would like to know why before I can trust it at all!
-
Yeah I'm counting my lucky stars on this win! Are the switches still available? I'm guessing not!?
-
So one thing I've been dreading sorting on my car was the usual non-functioning sun roof, something I pointed out to my Dad today on his first trip in the Corrado by pushing the switch to demonstrate the problem....lo and behold, it opened! then closed, tilt, everything! Smooth as you like, as if it'd just rolled off the production line!! But there's obviously a small fault somewhere, guessing a dodgy connection. Could anyone point me in the direction of likely suspects? Thanks!! Chris

Hi Guys Can anyone tell me the part number of the T shaped vac pipe in the picture below? (Yeh, I jacked the picture of Google! =D). I'd use ETKA, but turns out I don't have a 32bit PC left in the house! Can I get this part online anywhere or is it a trip to VW? Thanks in advance! Chris

Hi All I'm getting the bits and pieces together to convert my VR6 to OBD2. I have managed to pick up most of the parts I need from fleabay, but have just been informed by the seller he has already sold the ecu loom locally:censored:. He tells me he has another in a 96 GTI, but surely these would be totally different what with the ecu/engine loom being different? Can anyone tell me if this is the case? Thanks! Chris

and back again... =D

Agreed. Once you have one you find so many previously frustrating jobs you can use it for.
-
Yeah you should find the Dremel easy to use. Whilst it goes through the metal like butter it is very precise and controllable. Even if you did have a major arm spasm or something you'd likely snap the disc before doing any real damage to the car!
-
You might have a bit of trouble getting a hacksaw to fit, or to cut without cutting other things! I used the Dremel method myself, the benefit of which is the disc is small enough to do the sideways cut as well, which makes for a very neat job. I'll have a look when I get home at lunch and see if you could wedge a hacksaw in there.

They Audi rims? Look good! Like the plate too...devil car!
-
It shouldn't take you too long to do. I think it was about 45 minutes between starting the job and standing back with a cup of tea admiring my handiwork!
-
Side to side throw is the same. I wouldn't want that to be shorter tbh as it's fine as stock, just the forward and back throw that's the problem.

Riley, if it helps any I wondered if 25% would be enough, but to be honest it feels like more. I'd say gate to gate eg 1st to 2nd feels like just over half the distance it used to. This may not be the case mathematically but I'd say the reduction is bob on. Gone is the scramble to get it into gear at high revs now it just clicks up a gear with ease. I'm not too good at describing things I'm afraid(!), but when I got in the Corrado after my 2k3 A3 I had the same thought on how crazy long the throw was, but with this kit it feels absolutely perfect now!

Just fitted mine, no pics I'm afraid as my camera charger seems to be MIA. What can I say...It's awesome! Fitting was fairly straightforward, just a bit fiddly getting everything at the appropriate angle to get the big pin out, but as Dave says in the instructions, persevere and it will come out! Also pleased to discover that the majority of the slop was worn bushes on the old shifter. Quick spin round the block, didn't require any adjustment at all, was perfect from the get go. Shifting now feels so tight and the distance between gates is just perfect...love it love it love it!! Buy one, you won't be disappointed! :thumbleft:

If the mechs still working I'd have a willing volunteer jiggle that corner of the bonnet whilst you pull the cable before you resort to more drastic steps!

Received my shifter and tunnel repair kit this morning - very quick delivery! Kit and instruction look very well made. I'll be fitting as soon as possible and will be back with pictures and feedback =D. Will get my old shifter off to you as quick as possible Dave. Many Thanks! Chris

No worries, thanks anyway! =)

Hi Pete! Yeah she's an absolutely fantastic car, shaping up so far to be everything I thought it could be! So much more soul than the A3, if considerably more thirsty - but I can live with that! Looking forward to cracking on with the various maintenance tasks and what not. I don't suppose you could tell me what suspension it has on it currently? I'd go have a nose, but my mate has my jack at the moment! Thanks for the offer Rob, how much would you be wanting? May be worth having as a spare. Do they tend to fail often? Fishwick, if the sensor always shows a fault with the engine not running, how do you tell if there really is a problem? Will that clear when the engine is running? Assume legitimate faults stay in the memory? Thanks guys! =D

Are you keeping the OBD2 kit off it? Would be interested in it if you're not.
-
Good news! thanks for that. 0 faults then

Quick update... Should mention that since posting this the car hasn't cut out again, but I haven't exactly been hooning it around of late, so may still do it. Anyway, finally got round to replacing the ignition switch. After reading several posts on the subject, decided I would try the bent screwdriver method and put it back as it should be - no cable ties on my car!! Of course after an hour of cursing/head scratching/*how has anyone ever managed to do this!!?? moments* it was swiftly smacked off with a flathead and the cable ties were broken out!! =D. Pleased to say my radio now works properly. As for the fault, well finally got it on the VCDS today and it came up with just the 1 fault: 1 Fault Found: 00513 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28) 03-00 - No Signal Crank sensor I assume? Also I've noticed people mentioning that the faults they had were old. Can you get a time and date for them somehow? Either way, loving owning the car! It really is one of those that every time you get out you always have to turn around for a quick perv as you walk away!! ---------- Post added at 3:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 3:00 PM ---------- heh! 8 & ) makes 8)

What wheels are they? Really suit it!

Thanks for the help guys. I'll have a look at things when I'm off the dreaded night shift. My cable showed up today so should at least have time to grab the fault codes. The ignition switch certainly has potential...think it what's causing my radio to cut out all the time as it seems to come back on when i jiggle the key.
