I use a Mk3 tdi gearbox. Handles the torque much better. Might spin in first dependant on tracking, won't spin 2nd and pulls well. My old 16v box used to spin 1-3rd and try to pull me into a hedge. Tdi boxes are the way forward
-
I have one if required. 130k mind.
-
I might have one that I removed from a mk3 vr6. Only small, can post if needed. That's if it hasn't been chucked....
-
Get a Corrado pedal box to use - the mk3 pedal boxes are different. Then use a 1.3 carb mk2 golf throttle cable. This will be fine for AGU. Regarding the 1.8t, the crank should be the same it's just the flywheel / clutch setup that COULD be different. Personally i'd get hold of a G60 flyhweel and VR6 clutch and then run a manual box.

Spal fan wiring and constant full speed dash switch
daveb142 replied to sexybourbon's topic in Engine Bay
So did anyone actually incorporate a fan override switch at all?... -
For sale is a G60 instrument cluster for cars with a digital speedo. Unsure of mileage, bought a few years ago and ended up using the clocks that were already in the car. £50 Ono + postage Will upload a picture when home

Good choice! You can use a standalone sytem such as QPeng. This way means you can retain a cable throttle body and will be much easier to wire in. Also have the gains of a standalone ECU etc. Downsides being bit rough when cold, no fault codes etc, no knock sensors taken into account or what not too and so forth. My mate runs it on his AUM K03s and its at 240bhp and shifts very well, so it is a good bit of kit. You can use the standard ECU. If you fancy doing the wiring yourself, "Rubjonny" does a very good guide on how to do it. Otherwise, either pay him to do the loom for you or I actually do similar in my spare time now (I've made various 1.8t looms to go into mk1's, mk2's, mk3's, Corrado's etc). If you go down this route, you will have to modify your pedalbox to accept the mk4 golf accelerator pedal as it is DBW (electronic throttle body). I've done this on mine as i'm running an AUQ DBW 1.8t. It's quite a simple bracket welded onto the pedalbox. Benefits of this method - Can still be mapped through the vagcom port, you can see the fault codes etc for the engine and it takes into account all of the engines sensors and what not. Downside, you could say even with mapping it's not as powerful, but a simple map will take you to 280bhp so still bleddy good for standard ECU! There are also many other pro's/cons of both. Worth a google! Other than that, a good idea would be to run a G60 flywheel with VR6 clutch, bin off the dual mass flywheel! I'm running a diesel gearbox, however your 16v box could be used still. Downpipes can be bought from Q-Peng or trackslag. Upgrade your radiator to a bigger one, my 16v one was not up to the job! Upgrade your brakes too, minimum G60 brakes really. FMIC, Intake pipe etc will also be beneficial. Any other help just say

Not really too much to update. Had the windscreen replaced the other weekend. Inevitably there was some rust behind the screen, so Neil at Classics and Customs near us sorted it out for me whilst I had uni during the week! All primered and treated before my old 16v windscreen went in. I then had a moment of forgetting how to drive out of my unit. Resulting in this. Woops :| First time i've actually dinged any car i've owned...... Anyway, luckily Neil buffed most of it out and touched it up, which will do until I get the bumper resprayed next year! Before that, my powersteering line dis-lodged itself and was dragging along the floor. Which resulted in covering a friends street in powersteering fluid..... What a ballache that was to change. Lucky I had a spare line, however ended up cross-threading the first few threads on the powersteering rack. Luckily my mate mad a tap and re-threaded it. Then it took us another hour or so of swearing to try and get the powersteering pipe to get in the right angle to screw it in. Probably the most infuriating job i've done on the car. I also need to fix my gearbox as I've damaged the diff / area around the diff. It whines when moving now, however gets into all gears fine still. All in all it wasn't a great week! However, I did finish off my climatronic surround and put the centre console back together.... so that's something? And the collection keeps growing Bought a polo which i'll be fixing and selling, then I can sort the Corrado's gearbox and think about mapping

Popped down to the "Totally VAG" show at Royal Cornwall Showground today, only a hour away from me. Some nice cars there but a bit boring, no show and shine and not much going on during the day (more family orientated). Was good to see everyone none the less! Parked up on Devon Dubshack Stand with Matt's (VDubDaisy's Owner) Corrado, Alex's 20vt Cab and Steve's gorgeous MK1 G60. I actually had the bonnet open and all. And a "**** clipless grille" was also sourced especially for the day  Need to sort that mess out next ^
-
Yeah I thought it was best to just find another one, shell only owed me less than £400 anyway
-
Thanks Sean! :) Cheers dude, runs much nicer 2nd time around! Gonna tidy up the bay and such soon and waiting for some new hoses to turn up
-
Unfortunately as you may have noticed, the shell did not come with any wings. Therefore I had 2 spare ones painted along with the front bumper. Whilst waiting for paint and having saved money from not respraying the whole car, I had my Borbets refurbed by South West Wheel Repair in Marsh Barton, Devon. I had them all powdercoated silver and very happy with the outcome! For a very good price too. With the deadline of Edition 38 looming, I started putting my dash back together, not before completing my Polo GTi climatronic install! I haven't used the aircon for this, however wanted it to replace the dials. Very happy with the outcome and works really well! Unfortunately I didn't take many other pictures from then on. I booked an MOT for wednesday 2nd September and worked throughout the nights to get it to this stage. It passed the MOT with only 2 minor advisories :D The new bonnet cable which I bought snapped, therfore meaning I've had to run with no grille and some cables to open the bonnet! My intercooler placing not making this any easier haha. Thursday came and I got the wings and bumper back, pleased with the colour match despite not having the car!I had to re-set the camber up and then took it for tracking. All sorted before heading off to edition 38 the next morning! The car drove spot on for the 500 mile round journey to Edition 38 and back! I've missed it so much haha. The new diesel box does wonders, only using a 1/4 tank of fuel for the journey up and the same for the journey back. The clocks read 48.8 MPG  really forgot how much this car shifts! Anyway, a few pictures from the show field, parked next to my mate's mk3 cab 20vt and another mates VR6 - along with his dog VDubDaisy Now i'm back, going to get the bonnet resprayed and give the car a full polish. Also need to put the rest of the dash back in and sort some niggly bits and pieces! Also the windscreen cracked whilst on the show field in the sun, so gotta get that changed over this week :( but gives me time to sort everything out. All in all, a great weekend! Sorry for this hashed write up mind More pictures will follow soon

So, quite an update really..... My intentions were to fully respray the Corrado this year and uprate some parts at the same time. However plans changed around July! I always knew my arch had some filler in, so began taking it back to bare metal. Lovely. So a new arch was needed, not to bad. Then the windscreen came out. The entire surround was like this... It got worse in the bottom corner and I hadn't even dug into the driver side sill yet, which was also dented and full of filler. After some talks with my painter and a few friends and my respray budget looking to be doubled, the car ended up like this. Now all I needed was a new shell. A quick phone call to Mr Mann meant a drive up the road to Paignton, where I bought his old VR6 shell! A 1994 VR6 resprayed in Mystic Blue It came with the VR6 running gear, no wings, interior, brakes, engine etc were all gone. Perfect for what I needed it for! I got it back and began transferring things straight away :) Converted to 4 stud with my freshly powdercoated rear beam and such I then stripped the bay and got it ready for the 20vt. I also decided to bin off the ABS. Both pumps I had were dead and I didn't have the parts for the upgraded ABS system, therefore complete removal of the ABS system went ahead. I also put on my 16v exhaust with a new v-band welded onto the joints Whilst doing my brakes, I upgraded my master cylinder to a 23mm stubby one from a seat ibiza, using a MK3 golf brake servo adapted to fit the corrado pedal box. A bit of work and cleaning later resulted to this:

So i've been buying new bits and bobs lately and getting some parts powdercoated. Anyway, I decided to go for the superpro rear beam bushes after hearing good things about them. Thanks to my mate at Exeter Engineering for doing the powdercoating and what not! They also offer vapour blasting and such there, well worth a check out! I've also had a number of brackets and the front cross member powdercoated, however I don't have any pictures of them yet....I really don't want to put them on the car, they look so good hahaha. The bushes were stupidly easy to fit, took me ten minutes! I've also started to strip the seam sealer from the bay ready for paint! Not too bad, a bit tedious at times though haha. A few bits have been sent off for some modification too, which will hopefully make the bay neater and i'm in the process of upgrading to the teves20 abs system and climatronic, which is slowly getting there. I'm hoping to have it all wired up soon! I've also decided to run the battery in the boot now! will clear the engine bay up some more! I'll take more pictures of it soon. The windows will all be out in the next few weeks and then hopefully, it will go off for paint :D
