  1. TREVR6, Very nice example of a Pearl Grey Metallic VR6 you have there, quite an unusual colour by all accounts too. And a local Lancs/cumbria car with the EC number plate. Kev, my problem was my Schrick gaskets were disintergrating due to the methanol injection of aquamist :-0 - made it a little more of a job as well.
  2. The Corrado doesn't store a service interval in the dashboard or ECU. The most common problem is that either a short circuit or a jump start (or even alternator problems) has scrambled the chip storing the memory. Most likely that the EEPROM on the dash motherboard has been corrupted. I can fix this for you if you want, basically replace the EEPROM with a working PROM and store the mileage reading you previously had. It could be a dry joint, but easy enough to fix. PM me if interested.
  3. I'm afraid the VSR's are like rocking horse sh1t - For more info take a look on this thread : http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewto ... highlight=
  4. I was lucky enough to have 3 types of manifolds to hand late last year and took a few pictures to help understand the difference of the 3 known VR6 inlet manifolds. The VSR(German Variables SaugrohR) was a VW Motorsport invention, it is a dual tract inlet manifold. One longer tract for low down torque and a shorter one for top end power, an electronically controlled flap switches between the two at 4000rpm. It was produced by Pierburg GmbH in Neuss, and there are prototype versions out there without the VWM logo stamped on it. Basically it enables the 6 cylinders to breathe even more freely ;-) and that's good, but in terms of actual horsepower gains they aren't that impressive. Left to right, the OE inlet, Schrick VGI and VWM VSR. For those who don't recognise it, the limited edition VW VSR made my Pieronberg - the cover plate is not bolted onto the inlet but actualy glued on! I removed the cover for polishing: The OE underside: The Schrick underside: The VW VSR underside: It's interesting to note that the Shrick inlet tract is identical to the VM VSR, albeit the angle where it meets the throttle body. Shrick vs VSR: I can only think it was due to manufacturing costs that Schrick decided not to allow access to the front plugs when creating their cast mould Annoying to think that rather than wasting the development effort, VW Motorsport initially sold it as an aftermarket item and then sold the design to Schrick. IMHO every Corrado VR6 should have one ;-)
  5. Thanks for the link kevhaywire, just what I was after to visualise the installation. Like the search would have turned up those pictures in relation to bonnet lifters? Come on Chris get off your ar5e and take some detailed snaps of where the holes are drilled so I can get these ordered and fitted before I start to tackle sorting out my belt and pulley configuration for the drive to Worthersee. (Please) The annoying thing was I had 2 sets of INXX's before and recently gave them away doh! - Best go and order some more...
  6. Thanks chrishill, I'll get Chris to get his finger out and take some pictures for me then. I'm seriously fed up of using a broom handle to keep the bonnet open! LOL
  7. Thanks Henny, Don't suppose you have any pictures. I've spoken to Chris and he says he has the IMX lifters which I used to have, but couldn't see a way of easily getting them to fit. Some instructions, pictures / diagrams would be useful please.
  8. I know, I ordered some of them from dealers when they were still available and picked up 2 sets from auto jumbles over the years. Dare I say it but I actually have 5 1/2 spare sets. ;-) Yes you are right, there is quite a lot of value sitting in my loft considering I saw a brand new set sell on ebay to someone in America for £275. Maybe when I need a new gearbox or go for that turbo and charged conversion I'll be selling some. I'm not in it for the money though... I actually provided a set to a genuine storm owner that had his rear badge stolen a few years ago. 8)
  9. Yes I've got picture evidence of at least 2 known P reg storms in Mystic Blue. In actual fact all the Storm's were delivered to VW UK via the docks at Grimsby at the same time (or in close proximity shipments). I have an article in VW Driver magazine that shows a picture of rows of the cars waiting to either go to dealers or sit and rust until they were ordered. Interestingly non of the cars is badged as a 'Storm' and this was done on arrival to the dealer who had to order the badges themselves from Milton Keynes with the original car order. Despite the badge kits (I have several) coming with instructions and a template where to locate the rear storm badge.. many c0ck handed dealers put the badges in the wrong place! Rumour has it that because the badges were made in Turkey that's the reason why they weren't put on in the factory.
  10. To put things straight on this post... yes I painted my callipers red very early on in the days of ownership (indeed I added some mud guard too in my infinite wisdom- DOH!) Quoting from a super rare 'THE PRODUCT BULLETIN' Issued by VW UK for dealers, issue 23 March 1995 - 'The Corrado "Storm"' 'The Corrado Storm specification is only available for the UK market and therefore provides our valued customers with a final opportunity to acquire a unique version of the highly successful Corrado VR6' [align=right]Engine:VR6 190bhp manual and automatic. 11. Yes but you soon get fed up of the b@ll ache having to remove the inlet each time you change the plugs or have engine needs ;-) Especially when you have air con pipes and a strut brace !! It was slam panel off to make things easy for me!
  12. No TREVR6, the car I was thinking of was Khaki green pearl and believed to be the only VR6 in this colour in the country. Again out of interest, do you have the paint code of yours, (Located in your owners handbook on the paper sticker inside cover, or rear boot, and orange sticker on offside front wing adjacent to air filter) or can you post some more pictures of your car it looks an interesting colour all the same.
  13. A couple of months ago I was unfortunate to enough to have my garage door come down - blown by the wind ( I was even more unfortunate to have my pride and joy sitting below the garage door with the bonnet in the up position. Needless to say, I suffered the following: - Bent bonnet stay - Snapped support in inner wing - Cracked rocker cover (very big ouch) - A number of dents and scratches in the bonnet. I've since got the damage repaired, short of having the bonnet sprayed that is. I know some of these questions have been posed before but I wanted to discuss the options available: My options are these: 1) The Corrado bonnet is so heavy are there actually any working bonnet lifter solutions out there. My requirements are this: - Needs to clear a front top strut brace, be long lasting and reliable with limited number of cuts, drill holes but I'm prepared to do some. 2) What is the cost of a carbon fibre bonnet, has anyone in the UK got or seen a late spec bonnet in the flesh. I know the biggest stumbling block for the lifter solution is the weight of the bonnet so this is also an option. 3) Has anyone already fitted bonnet lifters and is willing to sell me their factory bonnet stay? My polished item is bent completly out of shape and I don't trust it's ever going to be up for the job again. Appreciate comments, help with any pictures to boot. TIA Guy :?
  14. One thing to add, you will find that there are only 3 (or 4) wires on the OBD1 style connector, where as newer OBDII connectors have things like K line (Can Bus) connections too.
  15. It's easy enough to go to a scrap yard and buy (umm) a OBDII connector from any VAG car and wire it in. Far cheaper than buying the OBD1-OBD2 connector for sure. Look for a late passat, or Audi A3, Golf MK3/MK4 take as much of the wiring you can, Can help with the necessary connections if you get stuck. Guy
  16. I have all plug variations, VAG-COM and other diagnostic Software and other goodies. Based in North Surrey but can cover South London and surrounding area. HTH
  17. Don't give up hope, as Phat and Phil mentioned you can re-move the ash tray and heater controls and it looks like it's factory. I looked at doing this last year, but was too much effort and money so I opted for an aftermarket system. But I saved this picture of a German car listed on ebay that had it fitted to give you some inspiration: http://www.digitechnik.com/mfd_corrado.jpg
  18. Thanks... The Climatronic makes sense if you have air conditioning fitted - I've recently treated her to a VSR, Pioneer DVD Navigation and heated electric recaros too!
  19. Thanks... Wow that is cheap, Anodising is an option but the metal finish of my rocker cover is bad and pitted. Thought the powder coating would create a smoother finish. I've painted the VSR inlet with etch primer and vinyl heat resisting paint which looks and has lasted ok, but for some reason the same effect on the rocker cover hasn't :-(
  20. Good on you... Only wished I'd left my modifications reversable. Saying that I doubt I would have kept the car if I hadn't waved my wand of individuality on it. Like anything in life we soon get bored of the same thing, mine has done 84k now and It only did 1.7k last year - this had nothing to do with the fact it was in bits in the garage most of the time! At the end of the day the car is for enjoyment... I've got severl trips to European shows planned in her this year! ;-)
  21. Out of interest Jay, how much did powder coating the subframe cost you ball park figure? How heat resistant is powder coating, would it be acceptable to get a rocker cover done this way?
  22. This is just as likely happening on a car fitted with a Schrick VGI, never mind the VSR. Even more likely if you have forced induction and the same setup... what have I let myself in for? Out of interest TREVR6 - what colour is your Corrado and what age is it, it looks very similar to Tom Sewell's old VR6. At least it's sorted now... !
  23. Excellent write up Jay, so you missed your Sunday roast then? Are you going to change the synchromesh or the flywheel?
  24. Yeah can totally vouch for John - he is one of my drinking buddies actually ;-) He will let you know what it is likely to cost as soon as he gets an idea what the fault is.
  25. The ABT kit on a black car kind of looks ok IMHO, I saw it on a silver mk4 recently and it didn't work. How you stand with insurance on this Ben, did the previous owner advise of the ABT kit? Still on for 2nite btw, I've got your heater matrix in the boot of the C.
