    typical aint it

ok thanks again henny for that rapid reply, the head is in the house and the corrado is in the garage so i think i will be ok to leave the battery connected  will go and will it another last go with the mole grips then if aint budging i'm of to local garage. would it be best to put it into reverse as that will be the opposite to the way i'm undoing the allen key bolts (i think). thanks Bobby :D
  2. After the recent session of things going wrong on my engine i was thinking of buying a complete engine and putting that it depending on how the engine in runs when i get the head back on. So was wondering how hard a job it will be and what is the best way to go about changing the complete engine for another 1.8 16v one(like if removing the front end helps to make things easier) any tips would be much apprecaited. Thanks Bobby :D

yeah i was using a torque wrench but the thing still snapped anway :( , how does having the brake on effect the lower pulley from turning just out of interest, (the car is jacked up with wheel removed (to get some space). ordered the stud from vw yesterday but the one in my head wasn't feeling any movement at all, it didnt have enough thread to do the two nuts together trick, so i'm thinking of getting a bolt welding to it and try undoing it then, is not the way to go about it :?: ? thanks Bobby

ok will give it a go when i get home, hope it comes out can't wait to get the c back on the road. Oh yeah and another problem :( is how can i stop the lower pulley from turning when i try to remove the allen key bolts to take off the pulley to cahnge the timing belt (thought i might aswell do it whilst heads off) thanks again Bobby

the stud is part of the head it looks like it anyway, as in theres no access to it from underneath and therefore i'm thinking its unremovable :( , someone know differently?

    typical aint it

after putting the head back together after having it skimmed, putting the valves new stem seals etc i was tightening the cams up and ones of the nuts closest to the flywheel :( snapped of with a piece of the threaded shafts that the cam holders bolt over, its broken fairly high up and to tell the truth i just wanna get the car back together so thinking of leaving it as it is. The other side is on properly an the cover is tight down, does this take alot of upward pressure? oh the cars is a h reg 1.8 16v if thats helps thanks Bobby :D
  8. ok thanks a lot that was very helpful :D , i stripped back some of the wiring coming for the alarm module and located the grey wire which has been cut down near the module, i'll see if i can get hold of this cl65 relay if not i'll be in contact mate. the way i though it worked was the alarm sends a pulse through the the grey wire (when activated or de activated) this is attached to a relay that switches from positive to negative each time its pulsed then this relay has an output that attaches to the closure wire that closes everything, have i lost the plot? could i get the relay from any electrical place like maplins or does it need to be that specific one? thanks again Bobby
  9. yeah thats the one soundsalarming, (this guy know his stuff 8) ) so where can i get a relay to do this and what do i ask for, since i bought the car the alarm has never done the locking. :( . So what i do is get this relay link the grey from the alarm to it and then link the red/yellow or to the red/black or something else for the windows? Yeah gavin i'll try doing it from the passenger side and see what happens. thanks fellas much appreciated Bobby

    have i broken it

wasn't difficult at all i did it on my mk2 golf years back so i knew how and what was best to use the film i used was from maplins and is a dark shade of purple, although lighter colours do tend to allow more light through, red is easy and looks effective, blue can be done but isn't too good unless u switch to blue leds rather than just a film change. oh yeah and theres a full tank of petrol in the car and yes three small screws and needles need to be removed to access the mettal lips that hold the lcd unit in place. looks like i'll be taking them out to have another fiddle and drop some newer style needles and dials in.
  11. now thats a good question for some reason i remember r106i or al06i or maybe nothing like that  , i can't remember it totally to tell the truth but i'll find out when i get home mate and get back to you. are u an epxert in this field? it stops the fuel pump from coming on if that helps but i bet most do that.thanks
  12. ok so the closure runs on the live being extended when the doors are locked as my windows don't close when i hold the key in the handle lock anyway? so what colour do i need to look for that comes from the alarm, orange?? thanks for the help so far

    have i broken it

after taking apart my clocks yesterday and putting different coloured film on the lcd display the petrol gauge has stopped working i think. i cant start the car as the head is off at the moment and petrol is coming out of some pipes up front when i turn it on. Has my petrol gauge stop working because of the the break in the gueling sytem or have i messed up the gauge? I cant remember if they moved when i had the head of before i removed them but do know they worked when the engine was in complete. thanks Bobby :D
  14. what colour is the central locking activater wire on the drivers side door and what colour is the full closure (hold key in lock thing) for the electrics as my alarm is activing but not locking the doors so i'm thinking these could be a t fault, the alarm is an autowatch and was only installed recently by the previous owner (not himself but somewhere he took it to be installed,if u know what i mean) thanks Bobby :D
  15. what number is printed in the indicator relay and where is its position on the fuse box? thanks Bobby
  16. has anyone got a pic of the above and of the hazard switch aswell, as i have managed to blag some free vento stalks of mate and fitted then yesterday looks like the top cowl cover above ignition will need some good trimming as it quite big. so i need to know if my new hazard switch is the same as those in the golf gti and corrado ones cos these will replace the vento ones with some of these when i locate some, and yes i know theres no mfa on the ones i've put in put they look then times better than the old square things. Thanks B :D
  17. from what i've heard the best bet for more power from the kr lump is a set of decent cams and a 4 branch manifold along witha good tuning session. my engines is in for a rebuild at the moement would some porting to the head make any difference by itself? thanks B

    is it true?

thanks for the feedback henny i've took the other gaskets back and got a full gasket kit, yeah the valve stem seals can be bought seperately only £1.50ish each. i've got the suction thing you metioned henny and some cutting compound. so this is the plan clean valves and use cutting paste to seat them nicely put in valve stem seals (any tips?), use compresser to squash down springs then clip on collets and jobs a good un!??!! is this right. oh yeah and theres some small plastic hollow tubes in the gasket kit are these for something?? thanks Bobby

    is it true?

took my 1.8 16v head down to the local engine specialist to get it skimmed and they told me that the front four valves need to be removed as the some crap to do with angles, is this true cos now i've taken out all the valves and i'm gonna put in some new valve stem seals whilst i'm at it. just though this sounded a bit strange but then again i aint no expert on the 16v engines, my mechanic suggested that i should clean up the valves and bed them in using some cutting paste, where can i get this stuff and how do i clean them, also any tips on changing valve stem seal would be much appreciated as i know its a pain in the ar*e job to do. Can i buy stem seals seperate and anyone have a rough price as i've alreday gone a nd bought all the other gaskets seperate :( . thanks Bobby :D

    wiring whats what?

ok a couple of questions under the dizzy on a 1.8 16v corrado what are the following wires for a spade connecter with blue and white wiring, a red spade connection and theres one more that i cant remember but all are situated under the dizzy. Also there is another that connects on to the sensor near the back of the head on the dizzy side the wiring is black and green for this what does this one do is it some sort of oil temp switch?? thanks Bobby

    signs of damage

ok the head is off on my h reg 1.8 16v corrado was wondering what i should be looking for to see if the bottom end and pistons are still ok, as it got a cooking. also i know i need to have the head skimmed but does it need pressure testing aswell? the headgasket i took off was well and truely dead and had melted one port where the coolant goes through. anyway when taking the head off the timing belt was looking a bit worse for wear so i cut it off, how hard is it to put on a new timing belt and what else could be changed whilst the heads off? any ideas how to flush the cooling system to make sure theres no bits left in of the gasket. thanks Bobby :D
  22. i was thinking that only mk3 golf gti ones would work with the mfa as normal golf ones dont have the mfa stalks, anyone know if mk5 polo ones have mfa functions? i might try a set of those instead.

    dodgy earth??

when turning on the ignition the dash lights seem to change in brightness from bright to very dull and continue to do this, so i'm thinking there is a dodgy earth somewhere. so where are the main earthing points on the corrado one inside and one on the gearbox? Thanks Bobby:D

    not good so far

ok so i finally decided to start on the head gasket on my h reg 1.8 16valve c unbolted the inlet manifold to realise that the ht leads where welll and truely jammed on the sparkies, after some twisting they came of with the top end of the spark plugs in them!!! This is due to me driving the car whilst it was leaking coolant and therefore cooked the leads and engine big time. Anyway the question is do the spark plugs need to be removed to get the rocker cover of? the car looks like its had the head gasket done very recently as the inlet manifold gasket was still like new and the rocker cover gasket is looking new. what do u guys think would be best, try get the remains of the spark plugs out and put some new leads and sparkies in and then try it, or take the head off first to check the gasket is still ok? Thanks Bobby :D

    couple of problems

no the mirrors don't work cos there not plugged in just wondering where the wiring comes from, so i can find it and sort them out. Does anyone know if mk3 golf stalks can be used and of what model as if its these that are faulty i might aswell upgrade, do i need mk3 golf gti ones for the MFA? thanks B
