Fuel Filler Earthing Help

Recommended Posts

Hi All

While i was unblocking the waste pipe in the rubber seal around the fuel filler, i thought it might be a good idea to clean out the road gunk from behind. As seems to be common while gently pull the gunk away i found the earth cable for the fuel filler. Its rusted off, and now as there is no road gunk to hold it in place im left with a loose wire.

Whats the best way to secure this back in place ?

I just cleaned mine up by cutting the copper earth wire back to a clean bit and soldered it to the metal filler pipe (outside). Very fiddly - I'm not sure if its a good join but I had forgotten about it until you mentioned it Tekara, and I havnt blown up at a filling station yet!

What does that cable actually earth? Does it prevent stray static sparks igniting the fuel vapours or something?

I assume so... Its just safety as your filling up I suppose...
