Oakley 0 Posted December 2, 2004  What can I say, ran into a mate at a traffic light and he started revving engine, I thought, "let me humour him".........ye right, he left me for dust and I dont think his wheels even stopped spinning through the 1st 3 gears. I rang him later and he told me it was a stripped out CUP 172, I can only assume that means 172 BHP?? Ouch!!
belfastfumanchu 0 Posted December 2, 2004 Oh well - at least you have a car that compromises looks with speed. He might have speed, but its not exactly good looking.
dav 0 Posted December 2, 2004 the non-striped out ones are plenty fast, and the C-VR6 must weigh twice as much as that little motor
Oakley 0 Posted December 2, 2004 I suppose you are both right, imagine throwing our engines into one of those!!
Ford 0 Posted December 2, 2004 Oakley, what is it with you always finding little cars to have a go at that always turn out to be wolfs in sheeps clothing... BTW stripped out Clio Cup 172 does 0-62 in 6.8secs.. not a slow little car. I was considering one a while back, but it's a clio! Check this out the Audi 3.2 v6's have had trouble against these critters too... http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/sho ... ber=264717 Also check this link out too, pretty cool compare the Cup to other cars over 1/4 mile: (try R32 against clio etc) http://www.jsread.com/tvr/quartermile.html Stats: By removing the air conditioning, spare wheel, side airbags, antilock brakes and sound-deadening material, this already light car has lost 196lb. Renault has also lowered its suspension and pushed its wheels out into their arches, giving more grip. The result is a car whose bald performance figures — 0 to 60mph in 6.8sec, top speed 138mph — may sound impressive but fail to convey an accurate sense of its true pace. Ford 0 Posted December 2, 2004 I suppose you are both right, imagine throwing our engines into one of those!! They have: Clio V6 mid engined, the one where the lost the back seats to make way for the engine, what a beast!!! Saw one of those in front of me recently and he put his foot down and it flew!!! godskitchen 0 Posted December 2, 2004 In 10 years time the clio (172/V6) will be looked at how we now look at the Renault 5 TURBO!!!!!!!!!! NICE!
VR6 0 Posted December 2, 2004 In 10 years time, there won't be much left of them.
dav 0 Posted December 2, 2004 i did beat one of the normal 172 clio's in my MK1 16V, 8) the dude in the clio did not like that at all.
M777CUSGTI 0 Posted December 2, 2004 O BTW stripped out Clio Cup 172 does 0-62 in 6.8secs.. not a slow little car. I was considering one a while back, but it's a clio! . I thought that the Coraddo VR6 did 0-60 in about 6.5 secs? Hence shouldnt it of been a much closer race?
Ford 0 Posted December 2, 2004 I thought that the Coraddo VR6 did 0-60 in about 6.5 secs? Hence shouldnt it of been a much closer race? That's what I thought. Power to weight beats the VR though. VR 152bhp/t vs Clio 163bhp/t.
G60Dan 0 Posted December 2, 2004 I would have thoguht it would have been closer. My mate had a 182. I raced that twice, the1st time he got the better of me, the 2nd time I did him. (and my cars got quicker since 8) - beware 172/182's!)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 2, 2004 I know someone with an 182 (twin exhaust) and we seem to be a fair match at motorway speeds, but from a standing start they rocket away! He readily admits it's a flimsy car and is selling it next year. Look around one and you'll see! The wings are plastic and feeble as hell! They are quick for the same reason 1.8 Elises are - low weight
M777CUSGTI 0 Posted December 2, 2004 Plastic Wings? Ouch, french cars, on the whole fucking awful build quality
Rob_B 0 Posted December 2, 2004 most of the front end of clios are plastic. designed to crumple in an accident. doesnt give u much confidence tho, id prefer to hit something with a load of metal, not plastic!!!
M777CUSGTI 0 Posted December 2, 2004 Heard you loud and clear the 1st time chief
pablo_vr6 0 Posted December 3, 2004 my 106gti is the same. can handle most 2.0L cars and is blinding off the line. come 70 tho they start to run out of puff and over 100 is pretty dead. thats all VR territory ;)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 3, 2004 Yep, the leggy VR's home is on fast A roads and motorways. Junk the 3.3 diff from the gearbox and replace it with a 3.6 though and it will kill any French hatch off the line - if you can get the power down
golddust 0 Posted December 3, 2004 he left me for dust Count yourself lucky, this morning I got done by a 306 Diesel  , even worse was last night I was cut up by..... a Ford Ka... mind you he drove it like he wanted to kill it

Shilakadaddy 0 Posted December 3, 2004 however the turbo diesel versions have 90  I used to own one.. and thought it was fast back then
Scott 0 Posted December 3, 2004 Yup my TD has over 160lb ft torque at just 2200rpm.... Had a mate of mine at fuelling specialist 'mess with it' for me.... we estimate about 110-115bhp / 165lbft torque and that would enough till kill most 1.8 / 2.0 cars once moving in 2nd gear.... my Pug kills 130bhp Golf TDi's with ease... Although the clutch lasted two weeks after the playing  - new clutch now
