stevemac 0 Posted February 16, 2005 What's the best way to de-coke?Good question. I'm gonna have a word with my m8 at Mercedes & ask him. I've never seen so much built up around the top of a cylinder.. Stanley "the knife" looks favourite at the mo
PeterMunns 0 Posted February 16, 2005 stevemac, Coca Cola works a treat...!!! :)
Scruffythefirst 0 Posted February 16, 2005 Looks in reasonable condition to me. When you take it for a re-hone get them to tank the block and the pistons too. Save you loads of effort. When you get the pistons out you can take the rings off, snap one in half (be carefull) and use the edge to clean the piston grooves before you have it tanked. If your not going to re-ring it, leave it alone and just put it back together as it is.
stevemac 0 Posted February 16, 2005 I've got some crankcase work pencilled in for next winter - I've been considering my options & I think I'm just gonna leave it as it is until then.

Riley 0 Posted February 27, 2005 Nasty looking crankcase needs a good clean & de-coke dosnt look too bad to me,or is it diffarent in the flesh? can still see the honing/hatching 8) piston top looks pretty well carbonned up but its not so bad. just clean it up with petrol and a scraper/scotch pad. :D neil. It's not even as bad as it looks in the picture. Still gonna have to take the pistons out though. 4 of the B/E bolts are 3mm longer than the rest so I'm gonna replace all 8. Need the con-rods out to remove the bolts though. May as well take the opportunity to "weight match" the rods while they're out.. :D I don't want to do much to the bottom end at the moment - in the Autumn, the crankcase is getting re-borred, new pistons & new crank.
