What's the best way to de-coke?
Good question.

I'm gonna have a word with my m8 at Mercedes & ask him. I've never seen so much built up around the top of a cylinder..

Stanley "the knife" looks favourite at the mo

Looks in reasonable condition to me. When you take it for a re-hone get them to tank the block and the pistons too. Save you loads of effort. When you get the pistons out you can take the rings off, snap one in half (be carefull) and use the edge to clean the piston grooves before you have it tanked. If your not going to re-ring it, leave it alone and just put it back together as it is.

I've got some crankcase work pencilled in for next winter - I've been considering my options & I think I'm just gonna leave it as it is until then.

I'm gonna drop my spare head off tonight with my mate who does most of my work.

I was thinking of using coca-cola just to see, seen as police use it to clear up RTA's

Coke Cola works wonders on old copper coins - makes me wonder what it does to the inside of my stomach !!

It's not even as bad as it looks in the picture. Still gonna have to take the pistons out though. 4 of the B/E bolts are 3mm longer than the rest so I'm gonna replace all 8. Need the con-rods out to remove the bolts though.

May as well take the opportunity to "weight match" the rods while they're out.. :D

I don't want to do much to the bottom end at the moment - in the Autumn, the crankcase is getting re-borred, new pistons & new crank.

Got most of the engine back together this weekend. Didn't have time to finish it as I had to replace the head gasket on my diesel "shed" on Saturday.

Yeah - could do with a refurb though. I can include a full head gasket set with it.

Have you made a new earthing thing for the engine bay?

Cleaned up all the engine bay earthing pints & added a few more.

Just need to get hold of a Golf G60 U-bend so that I can finish the pipework for my cooler. Then it'll be ready for "firing up" .. :rambo:
