VAG Service -

I need to get the Storm serviced.

 

£240 for the 80k service (incl plug change).

 

Extortionate?

 

(The car will be sold in the next 12 months so i really want a VAG service just to complete the log book)

I have been given the name a firm called Autostrasse in Coggashall (N.Essex).

 

A friend who has just had his porsche serviced by AS saw a Corrado on their ramps but i've not seen the firm mentioned on any of the forums.

 

It don't think the VAG service is worth the price but I guess it'll be foolish to ruin the full VAG history so close to sale.

just get an oil change from VAG, and get the stamp. Then get a decent specialist to do a proper service... ;) 8)

How much for an oil change out of interest? I want to keep my mk4 golf stamped up with VAG fsh, so to have an oil change done there every year will be the best way of doing this. Although I change my oil + filter every 3-4k miles regardless and I will be doing a major service (cam belt, other belts, all filters, bushes, shocks, bearings etc) on it shortly. (wonder how much that would cost through VW out of interest? £1000? lol)

Almost glad I didnt get the service book with mine so I dont have to worry about this. £30 and that my service done!

 

If I was you I would see if there are any specialists near by and get them to stamp the book. When you come to sell just explain that you wouldnt pay VW's over inflated prices for a job that the specialist (or anybody) could do most likely twice as good for at least half the price. The VW service history is soooo overated when it comes to enthusiast cars like the Corrado that dont need particularly difficult servicing.

The platinum plugs they ONLY sell now are nearly £65quid so i think its reasnoble, specially if its the right side off 100K with fvsh already.

Stealth Racing do a nice stamp in your log book! Much nicer design than the dealership stamps, bold, striking, stands out well against the paper, good quality ink and great overall finish. 10/10.

corradostorm, Just get VW to do the oil change mate, i paid £240 for a VW service total bill of £500 with some other bits, wont be using them again. Get them to change the oil, you still get the stamp, and take the Storm to someone who knows the corrado or the VR6, IMO (well my local VW) dont have a clue!

I had VW do my 80k last year, cost me £300 inc changing a flex brake hose.

 

Not impressed that they thought it was a 16v and even got the registration wrong.

Ok here goes annual check for the 16valve supplying oil and filter

from Hawcos Vw Inverness £72

Their hourly rate is £47 per hour.

Today went to a specialist,recieved Diesel Golf courtesy car,2 new rear mk4 brake calipers,handcable modified for above,bleed brakes and replace fluid,full service and bill came to £345

Car was complimented and the only thing noted was rear axle bushes wearing due to age.

I think the full vw service history will stop as of the last one.

Quality over quantity and a nice pretty stamp in the book too. :-)

Yeah, sounds about right for a major service, especially as that includes £65 worth of plugs but as already said you'd get alot more for your money at Stealth...

 

Also bare in mind that 80k is the mileage where alot of stuff needs doing if its only had VW 'inspections' up until now so i'd also budget a bit more on top of that price for anything else they find...

i too like to keep up my storm's FVWSH.....well keep the book nicely stamped up........however to save being raped too badly by them i supply the oil and just get them to give it an annual inspection......usally works out to be the £100 mark(inc the oil i supply)...........then change the plugs myself(if needed) and get the oil changed 6 months/5k miles later

My plan was to have VW carryout the full 80k service and inspection.

 

Whilst in the workshop I'll have them give me a full run down on EVERYTHING that is wrong with the car and a quote for rectification. (Should be interesting).

 

With this in hand i'll take the car to a friend at John Austin in Marks Tey (Independant Specialist and club discounts :) ) and have them carry out anything the actaully needs doing (incl MOT) plus anything VAG pick up if the budget allows.

can i just say my vr6 had been serviced by a main dealer before i bought it, and recently i thought it had blown up!!

 

turns out that a vw mechanic had changed the plugs and instead of finding the thread and then tightening- he had just stuffed it in tightened it and completely threaded it!!!

 

 

hence the plug blew out and a 450quid job to put a helicoil in the head and re-thread 2 cylinders!!

i wouldn't pay that - would far rather get a specialist to do it and pay less. Remember a big collection of receipts help with any sale - more so in my opinion that just the annual stamp.

Looking to get the servicing parts from VW then get my very reliable mechanic mate to do service.

 

Is there any litrature out there that tells you what to service and when ie mileage etc. parts - oil, air, full service, mine is on 62k and full VW history but from all what I've heard so far on this forum I won't be taking mine there.

I had the 60k service done on my Storm last Oct at Vw and it cost £150.For that all they did was open the bonnet and change the oil and filter,top up the levels and valet the car.The only thing good I can say about that was that I got the stamp in the book.I will not be taking it back :!:
