Jeremy Clarkson has never been too keen on the Mk2 Rocco, has a more favourable opinion on the Mk1 (but prices for those are on the rise), so that would leave the Rado as for our wishes, but £1500 is not enough for a good one.

The earlier 2.0 litre Starion was a better car, more powerful and smoother than the 2.6 litre four pot that was found on all wide arch cars - very cool in a very 80's way

£1500 would have bought a reasonable 16v to do the job they wanted. at the end of th day they buy nails and a G reg 16v would have beaten all those motors. Would have been good for 130mph and would have been reliable enough to beat the Jag and BM. Having said that would front wheel drive been any good for the final race?

could of got a rough g60 for 1500 put a silly small pulley on it only got to last the show would have won the speed test easily

just as bloody well a corrado wasnt bought! Banger racing at end!! Mr Clarkson had a total different car for that race, Fell respray to white+Turbo for 500 quid? Hmmm!

Bit unfair having a '91 Mitsubishi against an '83 BM and Jag, but still good entertaining stuff though, they always have a right laugh blowing up old bangers :)

I have a mate who would have cried seeing a BMW 635 coupe being treated like that, as he's a big fan of those.

 

So, yeah, lucky us, that Top Gear didn't chose a Rado for the 4-hour marathon thingy.

yeah was really expecting to see an early valver on there, id say they will do another short piece on retro coupes at some stage plenty to choose from in the early 90s - with a slightly bigger budget perhaps 3k you might see a G60 up against a Calibra and an Fto now that would be entertainment.
