VAG / Scorpion 5000 Alarm Keyfob Forgotten - Reset Procedure

Battery earth off for 2 - 3 mins should do it. Wouldn't expect it to be that rough! (What's rough? If you know what I mean) ECU reset & BS - you never know cos it wasn't driven right away after ignition on???. Costs nowt to do but time and a little petrol.

I may be over critical then. Its been sat outside in the rain which it never usually is, and it got started and stopped a lot last night including fuel pump cuts from the imobiliser. Just doesnt feel quite the same.

 

Really apreciate your help though mate. Tekara has offered me his help with a laptop and vagcom, so i will do the reset anyways, never done it before and he reckons it made a slight difference to his and was worth it.

Try this. With car battery connected... open both doors fully (so interior

light is on)... switch sidelights on... open glovebox and slide switch light

to on position... fold down passenger mirror and switch mirror light on if

not already on auto on... open tailgate so boot light is on.

 

Now leaving everything as above disconnect the +'ve terminal of your battery

and wait a bit. Your siren may give off a muted tone. Now with the alram fob

at the ready reconnect the +'ve terminal to the battery. The siren should

sound. Holding the alarm fob near to the siren press down and hold the

activate button until you see the red LED dim. Let go of the button. Press

the button again. With this press the alarm should stop sounding.

 

Tighten your +'ve terminal. Close everything. Try setting your alarm.

Hopefully all is working as it should.

 

Saved the day today. Had the battery off my car at Stealth and on reconnection the keyfob had forgotten which alarm it was meant to work with! Stealth said that at this juncture folks have often just ripped out the alarm but found this guide, tried it out and lo and behold.. it worked. They've printed a copy of this out to hang on to for future reference!! :)

Good luck with this one anyone who needs advice on this alarm. I have just had a similar problem myself. The "Scorpion 5000" is actually a renamed "Scorpion 918" which seems to carry VAG number "998 VAG 513" in my case. It was fitted as a dealer option not a factory fitted option. Somehow this seems to be the model all dealers offered. Presumably the discounts were good enough!

 

Through my battery dying on me and the alarm getting out of synch with the key fobs it will no longer respond in any way. I tried for weeks to get restore steps which would work for me but they are just not available. I have come across advice which suggested a number of things. Hold the fob button down for 10 seconds then release it and immediately press it again for another 5 seconds. It will resynch. It didn't! Disconnect the battery, leave it for an hour (or overnight) and reconnect it with the key inserted and the ignition switched on. Then press the fob for 5 seconds. No better! These may even be covered in the resurrected thread so may work for you, but they didn't help in my case.

 

The fact is the alarm is no longer supported by Scorpion and they cannot even repair it if sent back to them, they told me they don't have the facilities any more. Their advice was pull it out and replace, which is what I am driven to do at the moment.

Thanks A1. That would be great. If this is a standard device for a lot of Corrados then posting the instructions in a separate easily found thread may help a lot of people.

Attached the reset instructions Albie, think you just omitted to turn the ignition off.

 

What you have to bear in mind too is that this alarm is no longer Category 1 status and is not approved by insurance companies so if your car gets stolen they probably won't pay out.

i always reset mine with the keys in ignition etc, seem to do mine quite a lot as i disconnect the battery quite often.

Thanks for the instructions. I did come across the turning on, reconnecting, turning off, hold 10 seconds steps before and tried them a number of times. No dice in my case I am afraid. I do suspect there may have been something wrong hardware wise. I now have the alarm out and a new one going in. Not the easiest of tasks taking the original installation in to account, it wasn't first class!

 

Good advice about the currrent status of the Scorpion5000 with insurers. Probably best I change it anyway, although the old girl doesn't have too many miles left in her I think.

 

I'll post the advice here and we know this is now the official Scorpion recommended procedure. It may be useful for others.

 

OFFICIAL SCORPION 5000/918/998 RESYNCHRONISING PROCEDURE:

1) Hold down the ON/OFF button for approximnately 10 seconds while standing within the normal operational range.

 

2) Where the system will stilll not switch off, replace the battery in the remote control and repeat step one, (12V alkaline battery model GP23 or equivalent).

 

3) If the vehicle battery has been allowed to become depleted it is necessary after recharging the battery to adhere to the following setup procedure:

a) Turn Ignition ON.

b) Reconnect battery.

c) Turn ignition OFF.

d) Press remote control for 10 seconds.

The original 'voodoo' procedure has worked for me every time I've needed it now (which is quite a few times) - most recently this weekend when, upon reconnecting my battery, the key fob didn't do anything when trying to lock / unlock the car. It's frustratingly predictable! Switched on the sidelights and opened doors, etc then reconnected the battery and immediately began to press and hold the arm / disarm button and low and behold it worked again.

So the official procedure is found to not work each and every time?

 

Tried it tonight without any luck. Leaving the terminals unattached for a while to see if that makes a difference on next attempt.

 

I think its time to bin the annoying Scorpion system - been through this process numerous times now

Is it possible to "add" a spare fob to the alarm in this way?

 

I only have 1 alarm fob for the car, and so if I go through the procedure for the reset with another Scorpion 5000 fob, which part "learns"? Will it knacker the pairing between the existing fob and the alarm, or will I have 2 fobs that work?

 

I won't try it until someone can confirm or deny!

No :( This method only resyncs fobs which are paired to the alarm but have just 'forgotten'. Each fob is actually hard coded to the alarm "brain" and this has to be done through Scorpion... which they won't do any more as they stopped making / supporting this alarm donkeys years ago! :(

Hi,

 

I have an an intractable alarm problem with a VR6 which I have had from new

in Jan 1995 and kept as a fun car when I retired in 1996. It does very few

miles, only in summer, and the battery ran flat causing my having to have

the alarm reset by Scorpion in about 2001. They charged £80 to reset it and

said it was caused by battery voltage falling to

the battery at 13.8V afterwards to prevent recurrence, but it happened again

in 2006 and the car has not been used since.

I have tried all the suggested procedures on this forum string without success.

Not sure my alarm is a 5000. It was fitted by the dealer from new but has two buttons;

one to Set and one to Reset (one convex and one concave) and I can't remember which is

which now!

The resetting procedure says "press Activate button", suggesting there is

only one (?) so perhaps my alarm is not a 5000.

I have two fobs, both with good batteries and have tried both. Alarm sounds

for about 30 seconds and then recycles after about another 20 seconds.

Would be very grateful to anyone who can offer constructive help.

hello all

ive got this alarm i think one concave one raised button. Ive had recent probs with the fob not opening car or anything else.

Read on net to disconnect battery for a bit to let power drain. Should hear a dying beep/squeak. Reconnect battery and immediatly hold concave button until alarm beeps. Had to do it three times in two weeks but it works everytime.

Thanks very much for information. Tried the reset procedure but unfortunately it doesn't work on mine.

Last time it happened the cost was £200 to have the unit stripped out and £80 to reset it. Now Scorpion won't help I'm stuck. I can't even get anyone to look at it on site now so the option is to lift the car into an alarm specialist (£90) and an offer of £380 to fit a new alarm.

I just thought surely I can't be the only one with this problem, particularly as it has happened twice.
