wheel porn - not work safe!

Recommended Posts

Wheel looks good, but I've never really got the whole putting Porsche wheels on a VW thing.

I can't stop looking at the other pic though. It's hypnotic :luvlove:

Its not a lot to ask. If you have something slightly dubious, something slightly racy or anything along those lines, please just put a little 'Not Work Safe' in the title. Lots of people surf this site from work including me, and it just saves any potential embarassment!

Thanks.

Neil G60, Porsche own 20% of VAG, and they share platforms. So its just like putting Audi rims on your car

I know it's called OEM+ but I still don't geddit. VW do own 20% of Porsche but parts commonality between modern VWs and Porsche's is zero. You don't see many Posche drivers putting VW wheels onto their car which makes me think it's a "prestige" thing when it's done the other way round. Why don't we put Skoda or Seat wheel onto our cars?

g-man: Your Passat looks awesome (bit cleaner in that pick than when I saw it ;)) but there really is parts commonality between Audi and VW: engines, floorplans etc. Just don't get the Porsche thing.

Have you ever seen a porsche without porsche wheels on?

Porsche wheels look awesome on rados for some reason, the teardrop ones and the rh zw1 type jobs look spot on. The ones in this post are very sexy too, need to see the whole car with them on tho!

i love that car!!!! i think they suit the car too... they are lush, as is the rest of the car! however, if i were putting those wheels on my passat i'd have to get the audi badges removed from the wheels... thats just me....

G-Man, you Passat looks superb 8) Not a big fan of them normally but I think I'm converted! I like the way you've aligned the front and rear windows....top shot ;-) You could have Paintshopped that blob off the leading edge of the bonnet there though, LOL!

I do get the Porsche rims on VW thing.... considering the first Porsche was essentially a Beetle, it's a heritage thing. The 924/944 was an abandoned Audi/VW project so parts on that were definitely taken from the VAG bins. The Varioram inlet on the 3.6 993 is made by Pierburg who VW used to own at one point and who also made the VSR for VW Motorsport, plus the Toureg and Cayenne are the same car, only the engines differ (except the 3.2 VR6, which is in both cars), so Porsche do use a lot of VW parts and the Audi RS2 Avant was 30% Porsche!

Besides, who'd want VW wheels on a Porsche anyway when Porsches own rims are so sexy? :-)

Nicely put Kev. I don't put Porsche wheels on my car because they are Porsche, but because Porsche make bloody nice wheels. The fact that they are Porsche and they are related to the VW group is just added Kudos as far as I'm concerned.

what difference does it really make, you can walk into Gatwick "VW" and buy every exterior modification done to the passat from "VW" so OEM+ would be the definitive conclusion.....

Wheels you see on VW's are mostly inspired by the family brands anyways so why is it such an issue here???????

Alternatively you can cross the river to europe and find many passats, A4's Skoda's sharing exactly the same wheels with different centre caps, obviously in Europe they get more options added to their cars and have a much much wider selection and unfortunately it seems in the UK we get the left overs...

for example many MK4 Golfs can be seen with typical Audi RS4 "style" wheels and Audi A8 wheels with VW centre caps and im sure if you have a look at the back of some Genuine VW wheels you will also see the audi rings....

check ya boot latch and door lock mechs what logo do they have on there.... its not like having a Gucci dress and wearing Prada shoes  on the road its all good and it works...

thing i dont understand is when people buy wheels that were not made for the porsche but have porsche centre caps?

So daz when you getting some Merc rims????
