VRTrickster 0 Posted February 21, 2006 Right now the suspension has all been replaced ,new tyres fitted and the alignment supposedly done by the fella down at ATS. I took the rado down to the fella at ATS to get the alignment done last night but Im not a 100% its been done to my standard! Ok the car definitly drives better although I do remember when I fitted the track rod ends the n/s nut would not come undone. So he comes across this whilst adjusting the toe I would of thought and couldnt get it to budge ,even applying some heat with the welder! :shock: Anyway he reckons hes done the toe with out loosing the nut.When I asked him what he had set the toe to he said "paralell" and I said "zero" he replied "yes" .I did see the camber change on the n/s as I was watching near the ramp side. I did ask when I arrived if he could set the camber to - 0.8 or as near as and he said he would try his best! Now for the test drive ,I ended up getting lost in the sussex countryside which p***ed me off a bit but gave it a good run on whindy roads. It drives better but I still feel the steering is quite fijitty/sloppy through the wheel when going over bumps. Is this normal ? I seem to be able to feel suspension movements through the wheel also ,is this just because I have stiffened up and lowered the ride? I must say this is the only car I have driven with power steering around these terrible roads here, maybe most cars feel this way ? Maybe Im seeking prefection that just isnt possible ? NickVR6 0 Posted May 17, 2006 I won't even park my car at my main dealer when i go in for parts after it got doored by a salesman, only on the plastic luckily and i did get a sorry mate, followed by a comment on how tidy my scirocco was :roll: Let them near my camber, i'd rather fit a CVH :shock: It really does depend on your local dealer as I know some are very good as with all chains, depends on the individuals and it is a good price compared with most MD stuff. Personally I rather like being able to get into a proper debate over the best set up for the way i drive the car/tyres/turn in/wear etc etc plus mine had some oddities Vince ironed out along with a good explination. Guest Posted July 6, 2006 riiiiiight, sorry to drag this thread up, but I thought it was the best place to ask. after my coilies have been fitted (and to a less extent my wheels) I am looking at a wheel allignment. Speaking to some local 'specialist' places none of them seem to know the exact figures they need (but reading Kev's posts I'm on 0.8 Camber and 0.05 Toe). They also ALL said that I only needed a front wheel allignment, and not a 4 wheel allignment as the rears couldn't be adjusted. They are charging (after some haggling) 60 quid inc VAT, thats Camber and Toe (being around 30 for each which each of the adjustments). can anyone shed some light on this? mbaker8v 0 Posted July 6, 2006 its true the back cant be adjusted, the point is though that if you only have the fronts done, the front wheels will be aligned correctly, but there is no way of knowing if the fronts and backs are both aligned to the same point, the two axle pairs may be aligned to a different place. I had my car front wheel aligned a couple of times before i got AmD to do a full 4 wheel alignment. Afterwards it was like having a new car!! Dont waste your time on front whel only, get the proper job done.... Any good crash repair centre should have a 4 wheel alignment system. The print outs i have from the 3 different alignments i have had done over the last 7 years each give the allowable range of the measurements so i am assuming they are referenced i nthe machine. Guest Posted July 6, 2006 ok, so that makes sense, you aren't actually adjusting the rears, you are just measuring the fronts from them so they allign. AmD is just down the road, so I may pop over there, cheers buddy. The rear alignment CAN be adjusted, yes, I said CAN....and for the partially sighted and hard of hearing, I say again, CAN be adjusted :-) In as much as camber and toe only though, you can't be enjoying any extra caster action at the back there.
