:D hey, im new to these parts and just thought i'd introduce myself a bit. Took me awhile to find an active corrado forum online thats in the UK...and there doesnt seem to be many websites dedicated to this great car.

I know its a long way off, but i'm seriously wanting to buy a corrado and it will be next year when I do this. I fell in the love with the car when an old friend used to have one where i worked.I think it was the G60 and he had it chipped. In the meantime I want to learn as much as i can about them.. I dont want to make any mistakes and need to know what i;m letting myself in for basically. I've heard mixed opinions on the subject..my local mechanic who owns a VR6 swears by their reliability, performance, handling etc.On other side of the coin, a lot of my friends warn me about the maintenance costs being high as its an old car. But then again as long as its maintained/serviced properly, oil changed at least every 6 months it stands a better chance of longevity.

I believe the 1.8 G60 has a supercharger which needs rebuilding every 45k and a company called G werks does this. This is expensive work but if not maintained properly may end up buying a new supercharger which costs a grand.eek.

then there's the 2 litre 16v which is 136Bhp and does 0-60 in 9 seconds. very good figures imo. I'd guess easier to maintain as well and there's more chance of me finding a good, trouble free one as there is a G60 as they are much more fragile.

I have considered the Vr6 but i doubt i'd be able to afford this...so for the moment looking at the G60 and the 2 litre.

Have seen a few advertised on ebay and autotrader...most of which have accumalated about 100k+ miles.thats a lot but if next year i bought something like this....am i pretty much getting a sound investment? or would i be wasting my money? and better off getting a newer golf 1.8T or something like that?

Hi mate , welcome in!

You seem to be pretty clued up already as far as I can see.

As far as prices go, they fluctuate alot, so it's hard to really say how much they will be going for next year, it might be best to look into it again when you're ready to buy.

100k+ miles is nothing to worry about as long as the car in question has been looked after, i'd rather buy a high mileage well looked after than a neglected low miler.

G60's are good fun but are more hassle to run, you do need to make sure the charger is serviced at least every 45k miles and there are a few companies that do this, the 16v is the car to go for if you're worried about running costs in my experience.

Welcome to the forum! To give you the flip side of the G60 coin..

I've had my G60 for a year now, It had a recon'ed charger just before i bought it, as the previous charger blew up after 95k without being serviced. Thats the biggest horror story as far as the G is concerned. However, 95k without a charger service is just silly.

I've had nothing go wrong with the car mechanically since i've had it and service parts are just as cheap as the 16v.

Engine mod wise, all i've done is fitted an rsr outlet and deleted the boost return. this cost about £100 and im seeing 181bhp [21bhp over standard]

The smile on your face when you put your foot down and the noise of the thing make the *apparent* risk of having a G worthwhile.

HTH,

Baz.

Yes, I watched Steve at Pitstop do the whole thing. Took him about an hour to persuade it to come off, and when he took it apart, one of the ends of the channels in the scroll thingy had broke and the oil seal was just starting to feed its way out..........

Welcome to the forum!

On the flipside of the valver - stick the inlet cam from the 1.8 16V (KR) engine into the 2.0 16V and you can expect to see close-as-damnit 160bhp (same as a standard G60) - my other half's C has one fitted and boy does it make a difference! No real effect on reliability or fuel economy either (unless you count driving it like a loon more cos it's faster!). Plus, you'll be able to get the late interior in a 2.0 16V which you can't in a G60...

Horses for courses really - go and drive a few of each!
