HELP SOMEONE!! VR6 MISFIRE HELL!! HELP, SOS,HELP

Recommended Posts

i'm goin nuts..had a misfire problem for 3months and i'm close to driving my corrado vr6 into a wall!!

had moblie tuner out twice.. changed ht leads and plugs, crank shaft sensor ,now all sensors and leads fine nothin on computer to suggest otherwise.. so coil pack was a poss..

removed coil pack cleaned it, dried it.. no cracks but sealed it anyway with epoxy hight temp resin..

still the misfire lives... tends to only be once engine is warm.. after 15mins driving.. if thats a clue?

also when its raining but not always..

could it still be the coil pack?

if anyone has any suggestions, i will be forever gratful

i can't remember what its like so enjoy my car anymore..!!!

please help...cheers

have you tried the fuel pump relay, ecu relay and ignition switch? These are common problems.....

Misfire is general spark related. Does it misfire on two cylinders or just one? Sounds like the coil pack to me, to be honest.

Plugs were changed ... he would know if one was oiled up, we would hope.

Though he does use CAPS LOCK ALL THE TIME, so all bets are off! ;)

One of best ways to test coil pack.

Open bonnet with engine idling and spray a mist of water from house plant waterer or similar onto coil pack.

If there are significant cracks in it you will get arcing - the engine will falter and you may be able to hear (or even see if it is not too bright) the sparks outside the coil pack on its case.

Caution - remember safety rules when sticking your head under bonnet with engine idling!

My VR6 went on one and went into fail safe when I went through a large puddle on my passenger side. It's never done it dry and now I steer well clear of puddles :)

I thought some thing serious had happened but I guess I just soaked something that should have been dry.

Hope you sort it mate.

What type of leads did you fit?

Re-seat the relays near the fusebox but i would buy new ones for the Fuel pump and ECU as these are cheap and will need doing at some point anyway

Whereabouts are you based?

what plugs are you using?

did you check that the gaps were ok?

is it deffo a missfire or is the engine cutting out for a split second?

not 100% sure...it only occurs when the engine has warmed up

and i first feel it when i pull up a lights or junction..

the car bumps and jerks.. the idle doesn't more though..

from then on it feels like its misfires through the gears.. theres no warning lights on dash..

hope that gives a clue to the culprit

its very frustrating..cheers

Would be better to stick to the OE NGKs. Many people have reported problems with the multi-electrode plugs. You can get NGK platinums for £6 each, even from VW!

tbh the VR6 is best with NGK's as most of the others can't cope with the heat generated by the engine............as for gaps......you need a feeler guage.......tho most plugs should be pre-gapped

Had a similar problem with mine, changed the leads and plugs and the coilpack (it was cracked anyways though) to no avail. Seemed worst about 1500-2000 rpm, VAG com showed it was the MAF sensor and cam sensor at fault. Could be the temp sensor for the ECU too, best get it to someone who can pull up the error codes thoug, the MAF sensor is 300 odd quid
