What exactly does "ipod ready" mean?? What sort of connector is it?

some have an actual connector . But a lot of "ipod ready" units are just a rip off and are just a mini jack input. be wary when checking out what facilities it offers.

Yeah, do you want to just play your IPOD through the head unit, or do you want to be able to actually control the IPOD from the hu as well...?

The alpine ipod adaptor gives you pretty much full control through your head unit mate. Mine just lives in the glove box and never comes out. Less than 200 quid now for a decent alpine head unit and the ipod adaptor.

 

As far as i know most of the other makes don't give you the full set of control functions???

http://www.dension.com They do IPOD adaptors for quite a few manufacturers of head units so you can control your IPOD from the head unit... ;)

i could be very wrong, but i think you'll find the range of functions controlled from the head unit on those ones is limited.

 

for example, it says 'on some bmw models you can browse through the ipod menu' or somesuch. i think most models on the market only do the basic controls, whereas the alpine does everything.

 

probably wrong though

 

edit - the cradles make me suspicious. if you can control it from the head unit, why would you want it on display in a cradle?
