From ABV to AAA how much BHP lost

Hi Guys,

 

My original ABV block is knackered as the previous owner overheated it! I am know running the AAA with the original ABV, ECU,Intake manifold and throttle body. Typically how many BHP is lost from the lost of 70cc?

 

I know remap is the awy to go but we do not have Vince of Stealth around the corner!!

ABV = 190

AAA = 174

 

Although AAA on OBD2 is supposed to be closer to 190 mark, iirc.

Ah, but AAA with ABV head and TB and inlet will be more than a standard AAA, I would say.

The 70cc is pretty minor compared to the remaining 2800 ... More like 185bhp I would say. I.e. so little difference that it's probably still quicker than your knackered old 2.9 block was ...

Describe the differences between an AAA and ABV head... :)

Dunno mate, I've heard mixed stories. I'm sure I've heard that the cam profiles are slightly different, but beyond that I don't know.

Cams are different between the ABV and AAA

,but are the same across all AAA variants (OBD1 and 2).

 

Makes you wonder about the effect of the revised inlet on the OBD2 engine...

The head should be the same and cams a s well as we measured the lift both cams they were the same but part nos on cams are different though?

 

On ETKA the head are the same so are the cams??? for oth the AAA and ABV?

 

Anyway I have removed the cam so I should have gain afew BHP from there right?

 

So am I closer to the 190bhp?

CAn you use an AAA inlet manifold on an ABV engine?

Yes, bolts straight on and moves the peak torque several hundred rpm lower

Probably a very tiny loss of power at the top end but not one you'd notice on the road. The AAA engine has a lower rev limit than the ABV engine, so Corrados always did have a bit more legs at the top end.

I would say tinkering about with it is meaningless till you get it on a rolling road...

Claiming a few bhp here and a few bhp there is just fiction till you prove it. You might have a faulty sensor or something that's robbing you of 50bhp, so tweaking cams/inlets/etc etc will make no difference ..
