corradophil 3 Posted May 12, 2006 I got a quote from VW for the following parts to rebuild my sunroof mechanism, which still works but has a about 5mm vertical movement on the passanger side, and a couple of small scratches on the outside panel. At the moment I only use it in the tilted possition because I don't want to have to paint the sunroof. I was pretty shocked by the costs, and would like to know do I need all these items, do these prices seem right and does anyone know where the parts can be obtained cheaper? My aim is to rebuild the mechanism once, so I want to make sure I cover all areas known to fail. 1H0 898 017 A & 018 A - Repair kit for guide - £20 Each + vat. 1H0 898 019 & 020 - Repair kit for water guide plate - £36 Each + vat. 1H0 898 014A - 2No. reqd. Guide plate with cable - £70 Each + vat. This little lot will come to £296.10 including vat...

corradophil 3 Posted May 12, 2006 I was expecting a quite for £100 - £150 but not double that.
davidwort 0 Posted May 12, 2006 I was expecting a quite for £100 - £150 but not double that. I've seen a really good mk3 roof for under 50 quid before, very smooth running and didn't feel worn at all, I'm sure the mechanism (not liner or roof panel) are a direct fit to the C and they look like some of the parts have been re-designed. Obviously a complete strip down and rebuild of the roof would be best, but a mk3 roof looked like a good option to me, cheaper even if you had to buy a couple over the next few years! There's always the old trusty passat roof. David.
markp 0 Posted May 12, 2006 bloody hell that is rediculous!! Have a look around breakers yards, you should be able to pick up a glass passat roof or a corrado roof for about £

elrikos 0 Posted May 15, 2006 just one thing. the guide plate with cable (part you've had quoted as £70 each plus vat). You only need one of them, not 2. The cable kit has parts for both sides. I've just bought one for myself and it definitely had both parts in it. Hope that reduces the blood pressure slightly!!! Rich
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 15, 2006 Indeed. The water plate guides are sold seperately though. MK3 roofs can be *made* to fit but I didn't bother. It does bolt up to the Rado roof if you swap the subframe guide pins and air deflector for the Corrado ones....but the Golf roof panel has a major arc in it and will look an arse....but you can use the Golf subframe with the Corrado panel though. I might revisit that when I get time.
andy 0 Posted May 16, 2006 Sounds like a plan to me, you can get Golf roofs for £40 easily, you reckon the water plate guides etc are the same profile and its just the panel, deflector and pins that need swapping?? Bargain.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted May 16, 2006 Yeah, from memory, don't quote me :-) Basically, I had on the workshop floor, two rado subframes and a MK3 one. I offered up the MK3 one and it didn't fit initially. The bolt spacings etc were all exactly as Corrado, but the little alloy pins that locate into some roof sockets were different on the MK3 roof, so it didn't bolt in high enough. The MK3 deflector *definitely* won't work, which is a shame as it's far superior to the wimpy Rado one. It appeared at the time that simply lopping off the MK3's guide pins and swapping the deflector was all that was required. In the end I just made 1 good subframe out of the two Corrado ones as I was in a hurry to get it back together again.
corradophil 3 Posted May 16, 2006 MK3 mechanism for around £40 sounds alot better than £300 at VW. I definately want to sort mine out this summer. I'm coming to the end of a long list of jobs to do on my car, and this is the last of them.
