Corrado G60

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

The day when I buy my first Corrado is getting ever closer so I thought i would get some quotes on a Corrado due to my age the prices aint to pretty but I am willing to pay the money. I was going to get a 2.0 litre 16v but not anymore because I have found the friendly people at Brentacre will insure me on a G60 for an extra £200. Only problem is I know hardly anything about the G60 I've read a little on the Wiki but I would like to learn more.

Does anyone know any sites that might help or does anyone know alot about the G60 so I can learn more about them.

Thanx Craig

use the search mate, terms like corrado AND g60 or G60 AND power?

The best thing about the g60 is the ease you can tune the charger. first priority is to make sure the charger has been rebuilt and has receipts to prove, then the best bang for your buck will be to chip it and get a smaller pulley. i run a sns chip with 68mm pulley from G-werks and it now absolutley flies along! all for about £200ish?

you can also port the charger etc so it flows a bit more air! thats a really brief pointer but the search has pages of info! 8)

hmm... ugh... i don't know if i feel like typing everything there is to know about a G60... there isn't much to them really... replace the blue water temp sensor, clean the idle stabilizer valve, replace/splice in new universal O2 sensor, replace cog belt on supercharger, and uh possibly replace the vacuum line from the throttle body to the ECU (replace only with line ordered from the dealer! if you use what ever you think fits and is close isn't good enough. this vacuum line is for Air/Fuel and the ECU is programmed for this specific line, if you run anything but this line your G60 will never run right again!!!!)

that's all you'll ever need to knwo to keep a G60 running... oh yeh and rebuild the supercharger if you can afford to have it done...

G60 - n. A small, mean little monster that eats money. Lives under the hood of many Corrados and some other VW automobiles. When you feed it lots of money, it stays happy; if you don't, it gets angry and breaks things.

Says it all really!!!!

G60blowntop.jpg

and i got bored one day... don't try to rebuild a G60 yourself! it's a pain in the ass i started breaking to get it apart haha

remove the bolts from the outside...

DSCF0002.jpg

splt casing from being glued together

DSCF0003.jpg

DSCF0004.jpg

remove c clip and counter weight

DSCF0005.jpg

...here is how your apex stip seats should look... if they look like thie the displacer is still good...

DSCF0007.jpg

if they look like this the displacer is more than likely not savable but sometimes it is possible...

DSCF0006.jpg

here is an apex strip...

DSCF0009.jpg

here is where you don't want to find an apex strip... (the supercharger outlet... not a good place for a seal...)

DSCF0008.jpg

...bad displacer if it's broken as well...

DSCF0010.jpg

didn't i say to remove this?! HAHA

DSCF0011.jpg

remove cog belt gear to remove drive crank for the charger...

DSCF0012.jpg

and never figured out how to remove the whole displace from the casing...

DSCF0017.jpg

someone want to keep all this stuff for a "sticky" or keeper thread? haha

i say buy a G60... i buy G60 and love it... we don't have a 16v here but i would buy a G60 over VR6 any day of the week...

Yeh, get it done by a specialist. G-Werks are the place to go, although Jabbasport and a few others do it to. Not sure on pricing these days, but would think around £400.

i had one of my corrado before i sold it... it was loud no lies, but man the power over a G60 charger on a stock G60 was impressive! (sucks i was stock when i had mone cause it was after i blew up my 1.9L melted 2 forged pistons :brickwall: and basically ruined the block so i sold off the whole thing)

yeah its about £450-£550 for a rebuild, not bad considering its about a grand for a new charger, plus all the work involved cleaning chunks of charger metal out of the boost hoses/intercooler/engine....

ouch if you pay more than £450 for a rebuild look into http://www.kompressorkanada.ca/ they'll do a rebuild for you for around £390 then you just have to ship... but they do excellent work and they also have some specially painted or polished finishes that are really nice... they're going to be doing my G60 charger for G60 swapped 89 Jetta...

Standard rebuilds at G-werks work out at around £400 inc postage ( Or of course you could send it to Canada :? )
