Nosing around under the bonnet (you know how it is!).

Looked at the 5 and 20 amp fuses in this component.

The 5 amp one appears blown, yet all the electrics in the car are working.

What is this item for, please?

I find the component is the Fan Control Module.

Sorry, guys, should have used search - I did not expect to find much about this topic but there is quite a lot and "RW1" seems to be an expert par excellence.

 

I now see the 5 amp fuse on the late model fan control unit is linked to the auxiliary water pump.

 

Presumably mine has not been working recently, but I do not seem to have had any overheating symptoms.

 

Anybody able to comment on why car runs fine with this fuse blown?

You dont seem to be able to tell if anything is wrong unless you actually take steps to remove the 5 amp fuse and look at it.

I drove around for months unaware that my aux pump was goosed! It won't cause overheating, just won't be as efficient

Well, looks as if a butchers at this fuse from time to time is the only way to tell if the aux pump will be working or not.

 

Would the blown fuse show up as a fault on vagcom, though?

I dont think so as VAGCOM will only monitor signals from sensors. Stick it on and have a look, although you may get an indirect reading related to coolant temperature.

Don't think VAG-COM is that in-depth on the Corrado.

 

Aux Water Pump runs after engine-switch off sometimes, as with the fans. It's likely it's just that that you're missing. Not that important in hot weather, as it's rapid-cooling of the block it's trying to prevent.
