Walesy 0 Posted August 31, 2006 Clicky :? :? :? I would say that a 40% rise will be enough to force alot of people into 1.0's and alike. Fiat panda anyone?
ZippyVR6 0 Posted August 31, 2006 My first 3 cars were all 1.1 litre and under, Much fun to be had inside the speed limit, The insurance companies all claim this is to reduce road deaths and increase safety, but Im sure that the fact that these cars are cheaper to repair and dont go as fast in the first place, mean that for their 40% price heike they are paying out less in total. Some clever spin on a mathematical problem IMO.
Jim 2 Posted August 31, 2006 My first car, a Peugeot 205 Trio with a whopping 954cc engine cost me about £1,200 TPF&T to insure.. and that was back in about 2001... feel sorry for new / young motorists trying to get insured now. So fed up of being screwed in this country. The only way to win is be the bad guy - ie just be one of the uninsured and let everyone else pay on your behalf! Timo. 0 Posted August 31, 2006 Perhaps if young drivers didn't act like complete idiots on the road and crash all the time it might help keep there insurance down. (Not all of them do obviously) How many crashes a year on average does a 17 year old have????? That'll be 1! Hence why young drivers pay more. Insurance companies go by statistics. Young drivers are a liability hence why they pay more.
Walesy 0 Posted August 31, 2006  Insurance companies go by statistics. Young drivers are a liability hence why they pay more. It's not in proportion though, at all. The profits these companies make are disgusting and some of the prices they charge can not be justified.
Timo. 0 Posted August 31, 2006 That true for just about every big company out there. In specific fuel companies. That is the way it is.
.Rich. 0 Posted August 31, 2006 Bastards, if it did go up by the maximum of 40% I would be paying £280 more next year and thats after the extra 1 years no claims has been accounted for!
Lippy 0 Posted August 31, 2006 what I dont understand is that as a young driver ( Basically what they are saying is that you can't drive with any competance until your 25, what a load of balls.
Walesy 0 Posted August 31, 2006 That true for just about every big company out there. In specific fuel companies. That is the way it is. Yep, but this thread is about the fact that these insurance companies , that already make vast profits from us, are now saying that they're going to up some premiums by 40% , which is outrageous IMO By the way, it won't effect me, but I can remember what it was like not being able to afford a car due to the insurance premiums alone and like Jim said, I wouldn't fancy being 17 and trying to get insurance nowadays. Timo. 0 Posted August 31, 2006 yup. I remember paying a fortune for insurance. It was scandalous. However I was 21 and driving a group 18 car so it was to be expected. Fortunately due to my age, where I live and my job its considerably cheaper now. Although I wouldn't say it was cheap. We're all in the same situation. T. Walesy 0 Posted August 31, 2006 TBH, i'm not really sure what your point is Timo.
Timo. 0 Posted August 31, 2006 :) I'm not sure either mate. I'm half asleep and still suffering from a cold I've had for over a week. Hold on a second while I try and think. I'll get back to you
gradeAfailure 0 Posted August 31, 2006 It sucks, but what can you do about it? I remember paying a grand TPFT for my Uno Turbo when I was 18, but that was my choice to drive a quick car at a young age. With people making all these "No-win, no-fee" injury claims, insurance will go up, and the group who cause the most accidents (and it is males under 25, no two ways about it) will be the ones suffering the most. If you feel really strongly about something, don'y just b1tch on a forum about it though, write to your MP, write to the insurance ombudsman. It may not get you anywhere, but at least you tried. To that end, I'm seriously thinking about how to get into politics - not because I want power, or because I'm a devious b45tard, but because I'm genuinely fed up of seeing the vast majority of people in this country getting shafted by people in government who've never worked in a shop, or a factory, or a pub, or any other kind of regular job. Anyways, sorry about the OT!
Walesy 0 Posted August 31, 2006 It sucks, but what can you do about it? What people will do about it is they will go out , buy old bangers and drive them uninsured because they can't afford the ridiculous premiums. Especially the under 25's that are already being shafted left right and centre with house prices etc.
Timo. 0 Posted August 31, 2006 Right ok. I thought for a bit and.................erm... What I'm trying to say is, young male drivers, statistically speaking are more likely to crash, die, drink drive, speed, crash some more and usually end up killing some other poor sod rather than themselves. That is fact. Yes there are some sensible young male driver out there but not all and it is them that spoils it for the rest of us. Most male road traffic deaths are 19-25 year olds (if my memory serves me well). Surprisingly this age group are high in proportion of the number of male drink drivers caught. I hope you are seeing my point.
chubbybrown 0 Posted August 31, 2006 Timo, I thought coppers got cheap insurance through thier own scheme or summit. One of the girls here has always had a golf gti since she was a cop and told us all she was quoted happy via the federation insurance scheme or similar. Bottom line for us all we were all young once and all had to pay high premiums; My first car was a fiesta Ghia 1.1 twin webber carb. not actually fast but willing, insurance was £400 18 years ago. I saved up my no claims and bought higher group insurance cars as I got older, its never buying the car thats the problem its keeping the car legit thats the cost,so cut the cloth to suit. Walesy 0 Posted August 31, 2006 I would never dissagree that young males should have to pay more for insurance, but they already do pay ridiculous ammounts - and now it's being raised by up to 40%!! - which is what I dissagree with

I do get cheap insurance, but its still not that cheap and I still complain about the amount I have to pay just like everone else. Totally agree with all your points. I had low cc cars when I was young. I built up my no claims bonus and driving experience and then like you bought a high performance car when I had done that. T. mattosmond 0 Posted August 31, 2006 drink drive. Not true, most of the young drivers have been brought up in the anti drink drive era so it doesn't even cross (most) of our minds where middle aged drivers drink and driv because it was the norm. generalisation, but you get the point, your only 1 year over that bracket! so you must have suddenly gone from being a 12 to 25 year old idiot to a 26 year old wise man. it doesn't make a difference in my opinion it is completely down to the person when it comes to drink driving, speeding. young drivers don't have as much experience but, we need to learn or be priced off the road....... because olde people make us pay more so they pay less......
