Goldie 2 Posted September 3, 2006 Yes mate, mine is an aftermarket system fitted when the car was about a year or so old. Have had a couple of problems with it, needed a regass and a new control relay but now its up and running its freezing. Id definitely recommend, i believe its expensive to have it put in but it does the trick. There are quite a lot of aircon specialist companies, just do a search on google and see what comes up. Goldie 2 Posted September 4, 2006 Some cars do have it fitted from the factory, but not many i believe. I can imagine it was quite a costly extra from VW.
vornwend 0 Posted September 4, 2006 Mine came as standard (well fitted on sale as part of the Storm package). Made by Davia. Works really well and very quickly lowers the cabin temperature. Was reconditioned by the previous owner last year at a cost of about £350(A/C Engineering, Chertsey) Could never go back to not having it! RS VR6 0 Posted September 5, 2006 Just be aware that when the AC is on, its going to bring the coolant temp up quite a bit. Make sure that your cars cooling system is in good working order before the install. I love the AC in my Corrado. I could not go through a So Cal summer without it. Storm_Man 0 Posted September 5, 2006 Mine came as standard (well fitted on sale as part of the Storm package). No Corrado was fitted with A/C as standard - well at least UK spec'd cars. Most of the Corrado's fitted with after market systems are Diavia units. My car has it and it works very well. I didnt have it on my last Storm and it makes a big difference on those sunny days! vdubCorrado 0 Posted September 29, 2006 Crazyyyy....all the US cars got AC. yeh... if you need a full setup check out http://www.vwvortex.com in the corrado parts you can usually get that crap rather cheap since alot of people take it out for the power loss... i will be doing the same... that an it's a show car... i don't really need fucntion... mine used to work like a damn dream but 4 years later i haven't tested it upon getting my car back... p.s. remember the £ is worth nearly twice as much as our $... http://www.xe.com for current exhange rates... last i knew your £ was worth 1.98 $ (USA)

Karmann couldn't be bothered to design a whole new system just for us, so we only had the dealer-fit option instead.
craziscot 0 Posted September 30, 2006 Got the after market Diavia system in mine, needs seviced, regassed, fixed, blower only works on 4 and the place where the thermal resistor should be, doesn't appear to be there!!!! Blooming typical, aftermarket = whatever they could find and throw together!! Would be better is the dam thing wasn't there at all, just dead weight!!!!!!! One other thing, remember that an aftermarket system will require the whole dash removed etc...Very good chance of rattles etc afterward, and thats if they manage to remove everything with out bursting it!! Jim Bowen 1 Posted October 3, 2006 i was informed mines has worked fine since it went in, never had a problem
dinkus 10 Posted October 3, 2006 Keeping it running is all about regular use - if you use it, chances are it won't break. If you don't ever use it then the seals dry out, it loses all it's gas and starts corroding. The blowing only working on 4 is a common Corrado problem and is sadly, nothing to do with the AC. The thermal resistor that you say is missing is I think, what makes the fan work on anything other than 4...
