slats 0 Posted October 3, 2006 I was playing around with my lights a few months back trying to get the illumination on my heater controls brighter. I had little success but have a new plan for that (to be done next summer)!! When fitting the dials back on I then tried the fan controls and it only worked on setting 4 :( To say I was miffed was an understatement!! To my surprise I found that the dials, though looking similar, were in face different. there is an extra notch cut out of the one you need for the speed dial See pic: The standard dial looks like this: So after putting the one with the extra notch on the speed dial it worked. If your fan is not working its worth a try. Someone years back may have done it and not realised. Oh and if this does work you may buy me a pint!!!!!!! :)
ReekieVR 0 Posted October 3, 2006 OMG - i think i owe you a pint ! Had the controls off the other day ( lubing up the control rods etc ) and when i put the facia back together - blow only on 4. Just put it down to it being my turn to do the resistor job. Yeh - pi$$ed off ! If this is the reason, and it sounds like it could be - THANK YOU !!! ReekieVR 0 Posted October 20, 2006 Yup - me too. Would have been a bad day changing the resisitor only to find it still didnt work - then discover this ridiculously simple reason ! This thread gets my vote for 'Fix of the Year 2006' !

was8v 0 Posted April 8, 2008 Aye I did this too. The knobs have the same part number on them even though they are different!
Yandards 0 Posted April 8, 2008 Holy thread resurrection Batman! It is a good thing to check and as already mentioned the part numbers are the same. Anyone know what you get if you order that part no from the stealer?

Anyone know what you get if you order that part no from the stealer? IIRC they won't sell just the knob you have to buy the full heater controls unit. Another case of a dealer telling lies then, the knob/s are listed as a separate item on ETKA so you can buy them that way. Although it is the same number for all 3. Kaktus 0 Posted April 8, 2008 Holy sweet mumma. I'm gonna try this tomorrow. My heater only works on 4 since the car had a full respray 2 years ago. I'm gonna check this out tomorrow to see if I swopped them around when putting the dash back in.  Really ain't looking forward to replacing the resisitors.
