Coverting Green Leds to Red :? Now with pics

Took a trip to maplins today and purchased an set of assorted LEDs...

 

First i stripped the Window switch... eventually cut the old LEDs out and put in the Red ones... Went back to the car and "No Lights on the switch"... B*astard....!!!!

 

Ok I'll have a go at doing the headlight switch... Took me best part of 3 hrs and hey presto... NOTHING!!!!

 

I GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Anyone fancy doing them for me, you electronic experts.. :roll: :?

Are you using 12v LED's ????

One side of the led is + other side is -

 

+ = 5V - 9V - 12V - 24V

You should be ok using any of those for the window switches, but the 12v ones are what you want.

Dinkus..... I will admit Electronics isn't one of my strong points :roll:

 

All I know it took me all day and I got nowhere :cry:

 

I thik this one Mod maybe out of my league.....

 

I found the Headlight switch very difficult as it has a very thin wire coming from each end of the bulb... I just seemed to be bodging and soldering everythng :?

The H/L switch is a nightmare...

 

Diodes need to be the right way around with the longer leg being +ve

Can only think that you had them the wrong way m8 if the soldering was done well enough...

 

They can be fiddly feckers! i just used some red acetone stuff in the headlight switch(cant remember what the led/bulb looked like now?)

are you putting the resistors in line?? If you look it required a 1K 1/4W Resistor. Buy the ones that are specifically for 12V like these :

Easiest way to tell if the LED is the right wy around, is to look at the old one before you remove it ;)

 

You shouldnt need any resistors with a 12v LED either. Ive used 12v in mine and theyre all fine. The electric mirror switch is a pain too btw.

What have you guys done about converting the green ring around the lighter. I have read that it can be swapped for a red one out of a seat. Is it possible to get a blue one?

you dont need any resistors... the value on the package is the resistance of the LED at certain voltages.

 

What you did wrong was wire them backwards... Its an LED (Light Emmiting Diode)

 

Diodes only pass current one direction, if you have it backwards it will not light up.

 

simply open up the ones not lighting up and switch the wires around and they will work.

 

Long leg is always the positive wire, but dont worry about that now you already got it backwards so just flip them all around and they will work.

Stan 24v, are you going to use that for the heater controls? If so, i also used some EL wire from Ebay and depsite wrapping it around a few times it wasnt all that bright. I think a set of flux LEDs would give a brighter light spread and better illumination.

Fla someone on here used it, and it looked good. Not sure what to use really then. Problem with LEDs is fixing them all in there, may give it a bash though.
