G60 XVW Corrado.. finally rolled out (pix p3) >>

Recommended Posts

I bought the car back in October just after selling my valver, I've just been too busy to do any work on it. I bought it from a good friend Peter (well known classic concourse guy) who intended getting it up to concourse condition for shows. He only owned the car for a few months when the charger blew.. after that he lost interest and put it into storage.

It's only done 36k so the bodywork is pretty good. Just a shame the previous owners didn't know jack about these cars so the servicing wasn't done by a specialist.

Spent the last few months getting my new garage sorted. Lick of paint, sorted the leeks out and security issues.. so finally started to pull the charger apart to see what the damage was.

New garage.. secret location

Blown charger:

Found this on the underside.. it had also blown a hole in the main chamber:

Found out what happened soon as I removed it.. looks like the toothed belt just failed and caused havoc inside.. I see why G-werks use 12mm belts!

Proof that low mileage cars still need cam/charger belts checked regularly.

Looking at the crap left in the pipes I'll need to pull the intercooler too..

Other than that the rest of the car is pretty mint..

I'll post pics as I go along. After a trip to G-works and the new charger goes in it's onto the brakes and suspension.

Alright Russ, Happy New Year mate. Dan's black money pit is coming along nicely.. He's spent a fortune already. Problems with leeky door seals, getting his spacers sorted, suspension.. it goes on but he's happy.

I'm gonna be keeping mine mostly standard for the moment. I just need to find a cheap vag part dealer for all the bits. Rad, brakes, suspension, waterpump, cambelt etc.. and a load of new hex bolts for the charger, coz they like to round off :x

Yep, the westside of the transporter bridge. Did a mini photoshoot there a few months back with the Newport crew.

Had to use the wide angle to get all the garage in.. it's pretty small to be honest. I see what you mean about the Dirty Sanchez thing.. If only I had room for a half pipe 8)

Cheers Russ, I forget you work for a Vag dealers, Audi? Most of the hex bolts are ok, but they took quite a bit of torque to get moving.. I'd rather put new ones on. I'll do a list on the weekend 8)

I was pretty chuffed to get the reg number in the deal as well. Never had a cherished plate before. A Set of german plates should set it off.

Looking great. Look forward to seeing this progress - especially one with such low mileage.

And i'm definately not one for personalised plates, but thats a pretty darn good one! :)

Na dude I don't work for them {unfortunatley} I do work in between VW and AUDI of bristol though, but I do have control and access to a rather large stores facility and my suppliers can always sort me out with samples to whatever spec I ask

weekend update..

Someone please remind me why the @$%? I'm doing this??

Charger, brackets, rad and everything else forward of the engine block is out. I only meant to swap the friggin charger out?! But you know how these things end up.. "I'll just clean this.. then that.. ohh there's some rust there.." oh crap!

After pulling the bumper, I can't believe what I found?? I guess being parked up in a damp garage for a year has done it no good. The rad support or cross member has completely rusted through. Basically I need a new one, or second hand and restore it. It's too far gone to fix.

According to ETKA there's two types, early and late. I'll need to check my chassis number...

I hate this bolt!!! Rounded out completely.. The only one that defied the air impact wrench! Should be fun getting this out..

Charcoal canister.. big, ugly but leaves a lovely hole for a CAI 8)

More fun to come...

I wish i had a garage like yours...

Well it didn't start like that mate.. thats nearly 6 weeks of hard graft :?

It's only a prefab so it was leeking like a sieve, and still not 100% now in this weather. But it gets pretty cozy with the parafin heater and the radio on 8)

Well no updates after last weekend.. didn't get chance to do anything on the Rado. Too buzy doing the head gasket and exhaust on the Polo.. what a mess!!

Just waiting on delivery of a new rad support from G60BoyRacer up in Sheffield (cheers Mat).

I'm planning to detail as much of the engine block as possible while I'm there, untill I get chance to pull the whole engine this summer anyway. What colour should I go for? I'm not keen on gloss black!! Was thinking dark grey?!

Not much to update other than 3 weekends worth of solid cleaning, scrapping and painting.

Then there's the endless task of listing all the seals and gaskets I need. Not to mention rounded off or snapped bolts!

Just started to detail the other side of the engine bay.

Next job is sorting all the wiring out.. well.. replacing all the cloth tape that has perished over the years.

Still waiting on that cross member

Pix aren't too good this time.. cold!!

It's getting there slowly.. I'm just itching to get on with it now, work always gets in the way these days

Seem to spend half my life cleaning things. And I haven't even driven it yet!!

Nice tidy workshop too.

I have the same prob, finding time to work on the motor.

Takes time unpack all the tools, then pack them away at the end of the night...leave even less time for working on the motor

Well the workshop is far from tidy at the moment. Most of the tools are taken away each night and locked up.. bit of a dodgy area :?

Cleaniness is next to godliness

When it comes to taking cars apart anyway!
