washer liquid

Heres one....when I put the windscreen washer on I get strong smell of the fluid in the cabin..doesnt seem to be any leaks so any ideas??

take your washer bottle off and give it a good clean out,most washer additives congeal at the bottom over time and smell like a sewer :gag:

I'd say it's purely down to the fact that the cabins air intake is just under the windscreeen and the smell of the washer fluid is getting pulled in when you squirt... my 55 plate Passat did the same

Nothing to worry about IMO.

I would say that applies to most, if not all, of the cars we have owned over 30 years.

If you have a partly volatile liquid splashing about on the windscreen and elsewhere, the scent of it is bound to be drawn into the car on many occasions. Surprised you have never noticed it before.

check the seal on the air intake below the screen you will get some smell its only natural

I get a pretty strong smell of washer fluid in the car on the Corrado, Bora and Passat. I always use the VW fluid and its got a nice whiff to it so I don't mind, generally use a 50/50 split at this tme of year as well

Not sure TBH, its quite cheap (£3 a bottle I think) and comes VW branded, usually found on the parts counter - superb stuff and would not use any other now

Yep - VW stuff for me too, better than decosol... Audi also do there own in a higher concentrate too which is also just as good!

I think I read somewhere that VAG's newest washer fluid has been formulated to avoid the problem of blocked jets somehow.

Yeah, My rado has just had a service at a main dealer and the washer liquid smells luuuush :)
