Mrs Stan 24v's Golf 4motion - New wheels

Some of you may know that we recently acquired a rather cheap 4motion ;) This satisfiesw my need for another toy, and something more modern, and it satisfies my girlfriends need to have a good decent car with enough room in the boot for our Boxer dog.

 

130k, Indigo Blue, 2000 W reg, full electrics including climate.

 

Its running like a bag of nails at the moment since it was steam cleaned by the garage where we bougt it. Bought it on trade agreement though, so cant really go back to thinge about it. Just waiting for my Vag-Com lead to turn up now. Suspect its the lambda, maf or coils/leads though so nothing major.

 

Need to lose the surf board holder from the dash too :lol:

Nice and understated - hate the wood trim though, one of the first things I ripped out of the Bora - the R32 aluminium trim is really expensive but it looks a million times better

Not yet!! It had a nail in the tyre, which just got replaced. I need to change the front wishbone bushes, so Im gonna change the wishbones themselves as its easier, and its running rough due o the nob ed at the garage :mad:

 

As soon as its sorted then I'll let you know. Although, even with those bits needing doing it does feel good 8)

Got a few problems with it running rough, its a 200 AUE engine with coil pack similar to the VR6. Ive been getting some differing opinions as to what it is, so thought I'd ask here to. This is what I posted on Vortex:

Shes been running as rough as hell lately, (Golf, not Corrado) but only when its wet/damp/cold. If I leave her sit running to dry out for a bit then she runs ok. She also has the older style coil "pack" like the 12v VR, not the later individual coils like the engine on my Corrado.

 

What do you guys reckon? Im leaning towards a split in the coil pack. I havent got a copy of vag-com either to test it as yet.

 

Should I remove the pack and try to seal it? Is it the same as the 12v version?

 

I have since removed the coil pack and am drying it out. It has a small crack on the plastic underside, so gonna seal it and try it again. Do you reckon Im on the right track or could it be something like the lambda? the exhaust emission light flashes on and stays solid afterwards btw.

Easiest way to test the coilpack is let the car dry out and then spray around the coil pack with a water atomiser when the engine is running.. if the car suddenly starts to splutter then you know thats whats to blame!

Today I bought some new plugs and leads, and it seems to be fine now. have a look at the plugs. The car has 130k, I wonder if theyve ever been changed????!!!!

If it's cracked replace it - water will only get trapped inside...

 

Plugs look ok but you may as well change em as they're out...

Ive changed them already, theyre fooked!!! Running loads better now.

Not quite!! Ive got the engine light back on!! I need to vag-com it again to see the error, but Im reckoning the lambda. Are they accessed from behind the engine, or underneath??

depends which nes you want.

 

the main 2 are in the downpipes. you can get at them from above or below.

Not surePaul, which ones do you reckon? In fact, what do you reckon could be the cause? Any ideas?

Any ideas? The engine was NOT running at the time. Im thinking the coil pack is fooked, but would that cause all the symptoms? Or is it more MAF/Lambda related? Either way I can swap the ones from my C for invest.

I'm getting loads of misfire codes myself at the moment.

I cleared them all last week before doing the coil pack and plugs/leads.

 

Apparently a guy on mkiv's had similar problems and it was his maf. I may swap mine over??
