Thumped up the backside.

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Yesterday morning I was sat at traffic lights half awake at 7am minding my own when I was hit from behind. It moved me forward several feet. The guy driving a people carrier stopped and tried to laugh it off by saying he had heard something funny on the radio and that there was no damage done. I insisted on getting his details as it was dark and the bumper was covered in frost!, so how could he possibley see if there is damage.

He was a bit funny about it and made me feel as though I was making a fuss. He then told me as he was leaving that he was actually a copper!

Anyway in daylight there is a slight dent. I am annoyed because the bumper was perfect. I need the parking dents on the sides to be sorted but now have another problem. Can this be repaired or would it need a new bumper?. Can you even get new bumpers any more?.Am I being to fussy over a small dent for the hassle of claiming?

Any thoughts welcome

Thanks

Not being fussy at all, my blood boils when people knock my car with their doors, if someone had gone into the back of me and laughed........ well anyway, go through the insurance, you did nothing wrong and now you have a damaged car, make him pay to have it fixed!

Same thing happened to me & about the same amount of damage, make sure you claim, it may not look bad but you never know what other hidden damage may have been caused.

What an ar$ehole! Hope you did get his details...

Someone knocked my rear bumper about a year ago, while it was parked. No details left, and I didnt want it to affect my insurance, so I paid for the repairs myself..

Your bumper should be pretty easily repairable - A bit of heat and it should pop back into shape. Doesnt look like its broken the paint, so you should get away without it needing to be repainted

Definately agree about getting it checked - I had some ignorant T*@t in a BMW (suprise) reverse into the back of me once - got an slight huff and 'oh no harm done' from him as there wasn't much to see(I pretty much agreed after a few choice words) - latter I checked underneath and found the bumper mountings were twisted...

I just think people don't see our cars as we do - to them it just an old car and doesn't deserve to be a respected piece of someone elses property and its well annoying!!!

make him pay to get it sorted, wouldnt have been so bad if he actually said sorry and wasnt such a Sh*t. teach him a lesson-bash it with a hammer and get a whole new bumper etc.

..He then told me as he was leaving that he was actually a copper!

That was his second mistake.

He's at it-how dare he take it so lightly. The C**t has damaged your car and it needs paying for.You can be sure if it was him on the receiving end of this, you'd be in 'cuffs.

Please don't interpret any animosity towards the guardians of our safety in my post.I'd hate that.

Absolutely not!

Get in contact with him and tell him that he's damaged your car!!

Yep - claim for that deffo.

Hopefully will teach him to be more careful in future...

You were lucky you were not on the brakes as it pushed you sever feet, that would have probably bent the boot floor and given you whiplash!

I also very much doubt he is a police officer too as he should know how important in is to stop at the scene of an accident and exchange details.

You definitely need to get it checked out to make sure theres nothing untoward going on underneath. Plastic bumpers can pop out and hide more serious damage.

The second thing I would do is write a letter to the chief constable. (I love complaining :p ) Im sure the police would take a pretty dim veiw of trying to intimidate someone into not swapping details....if he really was a real copper. If he isnt then its a charge of inpersonating a police officer.

If he were a plumber would he have felt the need to say 'im a plumber' ......so why should he think that being a c*ntstable should get him special treatment.

As above - also worth lifting the boot carpet and checking the rear panel and the wheel well floor for any cracks in the underseal - easy to spot as they will show thru as white...

Get it checked out mate. I was hit up the arse a couple of weeks ago. When i got out and looked at my car ( MK4 GOLF ) there was only a small dent in the back bumper so i thought nothing of it. Any way i went through my insurance and the shunt had pushed all the back panel behind the bumper into my spare wheelwell and then the bumper sprung back out. Well i got my car back on saturday ( after 2 weeks ) and it cost the insurance copmany £1800 to repair. But the other side is paying for it as well as my injury claim?

i may sound 'sheepish', but go get him mate!

insurance will be fine as they'll claim off him for the costs - being hit from behind is always the fault of the driver behind... just thank your luckies that you don't like in Southampton as a friend of mine was shunted so badly in town that her Mk3's a write off - unfortunatley she's got no-one to claim from as the other driver was in a Polish reg'd Passat and just drove off :censored:

It could of been more serious, claim on his insurance, hopefully he'll take more care as a result and not do it to someone else where it could be.

Just an update. The guy gave me his insurance details and its being approved now. Im having the work done at cars in worcester. They can indeed heat the bumber up to remove most of the dent and repaint. Im going to get the right hand side of the car done at the same time. It will cost me £480 to have all the parking dents removed and repainted. This side is the most in need of work as there are a few heavyish parking marks behind the door handle under the rear side window and a surface rust bubble where the side repeater has been messed with. Add a few more pimples here and there and being black they spoil the car really. So this is a chance to improve the car greatly.

I need some replacement parts and these are the prices Vw have given me.

Drivers wing moulding-£13.18

Door moulding-£38.19

Quarter moulding-£26.91

Mirror glass-£47.12 (ouch!. Mines badly delaminated so needs doing)

wing indicators £6.60 each. Can I get these items cheaper?

You want to check that the door moulding is correct. They seem to have changed it at some point, the stuff i was supplied with had a different surface texture.

I ended up having to replace the whole car due to missing one piece as the new stuff didnt match.

Dont know if anyone else has found this.....

Good news David. Where is this place that you're having the work done? I might need a bit doing soon on the driver's wing.

Mr Sands.

The place is called CARS which stands for central autobody repair specialists.

Turn off the city walls round at the roundabot where the jag HA fox dealership was and its on your left.

Righto David. I wondered if it'd be them. I haven't used them but I did use a bodyshop just down City Walls Road, by the Fownes Hotel. I had some work done there on my old Mk II Golf when some kindly smackhead decided to open the driver's door up round the lock.

Wasn't cheap but I was blown away by the work they did: you couldn't tell it had been cut and the colour match was perfect. Let me know how you get on with this other place since one of the two will probably be tasked with welding in my rusty arch.

All the best with it,

Ed.
