standard 0-60 times... mines weird but good!

Recommended Posts

Many reasons why it's impossible to get a representative performance figure without specialist equipment...

Bang on the nail.....

When I had my Golf 16V Turbo (220bhp), I could have sworn it was pulling low 6s to 60, but imagine my surprise when it was GPS timed at 7.13 seconds and 139.9 Vmax! The car did spin though.....

On the day (The Golf Bruntingthorpe thrash), higher spec'd cars were getting even slower times than mine, largely due to spin and poor launches, bad gear ratios etc. Jabbas red rallye pulled a 4.4 second though :?

Don't get me wrong, 7.1 seconds is still quick but it just shows that what you perceive as being quick is often not the case when accurately timed.

Spinning the wheels will not give you a good 0-60 time.

It's a meaningless figure nayway, since when do you stop at 60??

Go to a drag strip and lets see your 60' time, I've managed a 2.034sec, which is the best result I've ever seen for ANY FWD car at York Dragway.

The team at GTI International 2003 recorded me managing 0-60 in 5.99 secs. I needed a new clutch the following day. I questioned the accuracy on the day, but they said that the laser gun doesn't lie.

Standard VR6 with about 100ml of fuel on board.

That torque curve is certainly NOT from a "standard" 2.0 16V!!

First off, it's torque is peaking at only 3.5k rpm and tailing off - standard 2.0 16V is definitely the other way about. Second - redline is too low for a "normal" 16V, iirc they go to 7.5k rpm.

Looks more like a turbo 8v engine, or even a G60. Suppose it could be a 2.0 8V with G60 conversion, but there's no way that's a "standard" 2.0 16V...

Tip: listen for a little whistling noise when it starts "really going for it"...

I can just about believe this. If it's on a highly grippy sprint track with very little weight in the car, yeah I can believe that.

I've seen official figures for the VR6 of between 6.2 and 6.9 seconds 0-60, and they will have been aiming for "normal conditions", so no ultra-grippy racetracks for them!

And your diagnosis Dr Matt? Oh sorry, you don’t need to be a dr to work that one out. I have read it all (again) but to polite to comment anymore and dont wanta upset Chris :D

My Vr6 is running sweet, Has been serviced by a TVR specialist for the past 6 services or so and I would guess tweeked a little by the former owner.

I would put money that my Vr would do a sprint (on a good day) circa 6.2

With Chris’s rado with his few tweeks, I would guess on a Very Good day 7.4.

Cant wait for the conclusion to this.

:-P

Can't remember if i've mentioned this on here, or on Yahoo groups, but just to add to this thread. I've been timed twice in my VR, which is standard.

First time was a GTi International a few years back, weather was scorching, and i got 6.81s. Second time was at Trax, but it started to rain on my go, so the track was damp. Still managed 7.07s though.

Chris, is there anyway that you could post a photo of your engine? That could easily reveal to us if it had a turbo, or other mods of some sort. There's no way a standard 16v will reach 60 in less than 7 seconds...

Cheers

Steve

Mmmmmmmm

I've timed my car with a G Tech pro and got 0-60mph in 6.08 secs.... thats running 12psi@220bhp...

How on earth can you get 6.5 secs with just 138bhp?

Funny, we've been asking for a photo of the engine since this thread appeared way back when...

And Scott: you CAN'T get 0-60 in 6.2 with 138bhp, unless it's a diesel!!

tafkadm, depends on what the 138BHP is in... Stick it in a Motorbike and you'll happily get a 3 second 0-60!

A diesel wont even do that either ;)
