Hi

Just had a wonderful day cutting my hands to ribbons while playing with my G60.

Spent ages trying to get my bumper off of the car. Found out that one of the captive nuts on the radiator cross member which the engine cross member is held on by (when you remove the bumper bolts) is no longer there (rusted away), another two turns of the bumper bolts and the engine would have been on the floor. Definately need a new radiator cross member asap now. :(

Spent another age getting the sump off, cleaning the oil pump and fitting a new windage tray only to find that 3 of the bolts are now spinners. Hopefully these 3 are tight enough but they wouldn't go up to 20n/m with the torque wrench. :(

Finally, got around to having a look at my oil cooler. drained the coolant and............that's as far as I got.

Those bloody spring clips on the little T piece hose next to the filter wont come off at all. I must have spent 2 hours with pliers, mole grips, water pump pliers and could only shift one of them. I knopw I wasn't in the best frame of mind when attempting this thanks to my mornings endeavours but this is just silly.

Please, please, please can someone tell me where I can buy a set of pliers to get these clips off tomorrow?

Failing that, just bring me the git who designed the clips and I'll force feed him the front end of a C.

Get a jubilee clip that's big enough to fit around the ends of the spring clip. All you need to do is place the jubilee over the ends of the spring clip and tighten it 8)

Reckon I could find a jubilee clip large enough to go over the whole car and tighten? Would make me feel a little better until I'd realised what I'd done.

Good method Andy altho I seem to get on ok with *good* waterpump pliers...

 

Keep meaning to pick up the right tool tho after using one down at G-werks...

Ive got a set of these and they are extremely good, think they are around £20...well worth the money to save all those grazed knuckles

Yeah, I always use water pump pliers. There seems to be a knack to it but it's easy enough and really quick.

Those are great, Always go to my mates garage and nick one whenever I need to get one of those clips off. AND never put them back on. I always replace them with good old jubilee clips :lol:

Ah but if you use/have the proper then they're better than jubilee clips as they don't dig into the pipe and always maintain the correct pressure.

I went out today looking for some of these. None of the local tools/ auto spare people had one. Most people told me there wasn't a tool for this and they were designed for use with mole grips, tossers.

Anyway, at the last moment I decided to go to GSF. The sales woman knew what I wanted, found it on her computer and it was in stock. £25 +VAT. Got my 10% CCGB discount bringing it down to about £26.

Took me 30 mins to change both water hoses. This tool is an absolute dream.

Thanks for all your help. I'm off to fit an oil cooler now. :D (what a difference a day makes.)

Will be out to pick up one of these sooner rather than later. My cheapo (and only 2 month old I might add) GSF radiator has suddenly turned into an attractive under-bonnet water feature in the last day or two and is leaving me nice little puddles of coolant every time I come back to my car.. knowing the pain I went through last time trying to get those damn spring clips off, I think it'd be £25 well spent to have that tool for future use! :)

Bit late now, but Camberley autos sell them too (the laser jobby, that is). They are as good as they look, they even lock in place too, and suprisingly I've not got my fingers caught up in them yet :)
