What number is your Rado?

I'm bored at work. Mine's 9532 if memory serves. Higher than I thought as it's a 91. For all those that don't know you can find what number yours was by looking at the last digits of the vin number. Who's got the lowest?

OK, so how's that work then? Mine's got to be one of the last made, sticker in the back dates it to 18th May 95, last digits of VIN: 003701 so as they made 97,521 Corrados how does my number figure?

the middle letter e.g. ZLK the 'L' is the production year(ish) L=1990

 

I think the numbers start again at zero for each letter/year code

Model years run for funny dates as follows:

 

K = 1/9/88 until 31/7/89 - model year 89

L = 1/8/89 until 31/7/90 - model year 90

M = 1/8/90 until 31/7/91 - model year 91

N = 1/8/91 until 31/7/92 - model year 92

P = 1/8/92 until 31/7/93 - model year 93

R = 1/8/93 until 31/7/94 - model year 94

S = 1/8/94 until 31/7/95 - model year 95

 

Please note these are build dates not registration dates.

 

Now Mave no longer has his press car my valver has to be close to being one of the oldest RHD models (first model year was only LHD cars) on an L chassis number 9915 (Built between end of Feb 89 and beginning of April). G60 is on an M chassis 15344 (built between end of April 91 and the beginning of June)

I used to own a Pearl Blue 16V the same as yours which was an L chassis number 6483, still wish I'd kept it when I bought the VR!

What about the 10% discount at the dealers/GSF and the ability to put your car on the club stand at any of the shows over the summer??

its a silly situation really, as i wanted to replace all my steering parts with stuff from VW, so sent off my membership so i could get the 10% discount, waited 3weeks and no sign of card, so i hung on, in the end i ran out of time waiting for card so had to order all the bits at full price, just over £500. the card arrived the day i was fitting all the bits :lol: typical. I didn't realise the length of time involved with joining.

 

also when i tried to join forum i didn't get any response from sending emails, so i couldn't access forum/site etc, then out of the blue a week or two later i thought i'd try logging in, and it must have been activated without letting me know.

 

i don't really display my car at shows etc, i spose i got a sticker and a pampflet out of it :lol:

 

anyway i'm not one to moan :lol:

Mine is s2795, what do they go up to in the final year I wonder? Mine was registered Oct 95 so a few more I'm sure.

So they're very out of sync too as mine was registered 1/11/05 but it's S 3701.

I guess them being out of sync is due to whether they were built to order or were left at the docks/dealers for a while before registering. Mine started life as a demonstrator and although it was registered on 19th May 95, the latest date stamp I've found on a part is Jan 95, so I wouldn't be surprised if was an orphan to begin with lol.

 

It would be interesting to know the number of the last one made, I'd like to know how many were made after mine.

Yeah I was surprised you could kind of ascertain what order they role out of Karmann in. Although it may not be that reliable reading some of the above posts.
