Could do without it but these things happen. Will take some pics of the bottom end on Sunday. :D I can send you a piston with the head if you like! No charge! :D Coming off this weekend come hell or high water! :ignore: Really?! Mate, that would be truly legendary! :D  :notworthy: Are you sure no charge though? I'd happily pay you something for it.

Gives me a good excuse to take a chop saw to a couple of them to satisfy my curiosity and the last one I'll get polished and use for an ashtray even though I don't smoke. Often! Sonicriot13 0 Posted September 17, 2009 Cheers dude. Really appreciate it! :D That's exactly what I plan to do with the one I've damaged. Turn it into some sort of ornament. 8) Can't wait to get the cylinder head!!! My replacement intercooler arrived today and I'll be ordering the bits to rebuild the bottom end once pay day comes along. I've also finally found a replacement bonnet too. One that isn't bent! Pick that up at the end of the month. She's getting there! :D :D :D

Awesomeness!!!!    PM on its way. Stu, standard intercooler is going on. This car is going to be as standard as possible barring a few things like the suspension and exhaust. My next car on the other hand, that I am already planning, will be far from standard! :norty:
Sonicriot13 0 Posted September 20, 2009 Did loads today. Really pleased with it. Not many pictures of what I've been up to but I'll have a much more exciting update for you all in the next few weeks. 8) The wiring has all been tidied up. Just need to finish it to the standard I will be happy with. Loads of bits are prepped and ready to start going back on. Here are some pics of the block after a preliminary clean. Still need to get the crankshaft out but having problems undoing the crank bolt. Will get it sorted though. Almost ready for the dish washer! Will have the cylinder head arriving from CTWG60 this week so will get that ready to go on the block next. :D Loving it! Will leave you with a pic of what was waiting for me at the bottom of my sump..... :pale:

Sonicriot13 0 Posted September 20, 2009 You can buy them off Ebay? Bloody hell I've been looking everywhere for one! Obviously everywhere but eBay.

Sonicriot13 0 Posted September 20, 2009 No worries mate! Thinking of starting my own engine block cleaning service. Just have to make sure I do it when I've got the house to myself!
Supercharged 2 Posted September 20, 2009 Geraldine, worry about the bits in the sump mate - thats from an old dipstick tube. What was the oil pump pickup strainer like? Block - I would take it to Scholar engines in Eye and get them to tank it and maybe check the tolerances etc.
Sonicriot13 0 Posted September 20, 2009 Steve, did you mean to say don't worry about the bits in the sump? The strainer is fine mate. The pump appears pretty good too but I'll still replace it. Do you know the cost of getting the block dipped mate?
Supercharged 2 Posted September 22, 2009 Haha - yeah where I meant to write 'Don't' I actually seem to have put 'Geraldine'.... I got a load of prices off them before for work but was a while ago - don't think it was much though - maybe £
CTWG60 0 Posted September 22, 2009 Head on way! with piston and gudgeon pin for company! :D
Sonicriot13 0 Posted September 22, 2009 CTWG60 said: Head on way! with piston and gudgeon pin for company! :D Awesome! Nice one. Gonna have to start ordering a few bits now to get engine rebuild well and truly underway. Supercharged said: I got a load of prices off them before for work but was a while ago - don't think it was much though - maybe £25 That seems pretty reasonable. To be honest I'm very pleased with how clean I've managed to get it myself but at the very least I'm going to get it all checked over by a professional so may take it to them. Thing is I know so many engine specialists and capable people through work I'm spoiled for choice! 8)
coullstar 0 Posted September 22, 2009 God I love and hate reading all these strip down and rebuilds as Im really needing to do it myself on my chassis. Just dont have time or space to do it.

Never seen one so clean! 8) Well happy with it. Have a day off tomorrow so will update the thread with some pictures. I also have the last few bits (wish bones, drop links, etc) that I need to finish the suspension rebuild so will get those on tomorrow.
Sonicriot13 0 Posted September 25, 2009 Well, it's only a disaster if this damage to a cylinder head isn't repairable.... :( :( :( Have PM'd the pics to CTWG60. Hopefully it was insured. These things just happen I guess. Anyway, Some pics of the progress I made today. Those rubber bushes are not the easiest things to install armed only with a screw driver and a selection of choice profanities. Not sure what to do next now. Cylinder head issue has kind of thrown me off a bit.
Supercharged 2 Posted September 25, 2009 Sheet! - that's not good! Those bushes are a git but at least they are diy - I tried to put some powerflex ones in, failed and got my mate to do it who almost stabbed himself in the process! Might have to pop round sometime when you are next corradoing?

Might have to pop round sometime when you are next corradoing? Not good at all mate. Not sure what to do now. My old cylinder head is just bollox. I could get that reconditioned but I'd rather find a better one for that. I would be very surprised if Chris's old one is repairable. :( I'll give you a shout next time I'm gonna have a big job on the go. Won't be for a couple of weeks now though. Sunday I'm gonna hopefully be picking up my bonnet. Should probably get in touch with the seller and make sure that's ok with him first though! That will take up most of the day. Then on Friday me and Lucy are going down to Wales for a week. We really need to get away for a bit! Would be nice if I could get another cylinder head by then and then I can leave pretty much my whole engine with scholar or someone whilst I'm away so they can pressure test and clean everything etc. Then I can start the engine rebuild when I get back. aide 0 Posted September 25, 2009 ah man - was that royal mail that did that? i'd say a competent welder and machine shop could sort that, am sure they'd suck there breath between their teeth first tho, defo worth a try
Sonicriot13 0 Posted September 25, 2009 Wasn't Royal Mail but I forget who it was now. Gonna have a word with the master tech at work and see what he thinks. It's quite an important part of the head though. The cam shaft sits in there obviously and rotates rather fast so any imperfections in a repair could spell disaster. Don't know if it would be worth the risk.
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted September 25, 2009 that must have took a fair old knock to do that! fecking delevery services! :censored: You would need to groove and weld the head and then line bore the cap out to line up with the rest...cost? better off with a used head mate....gutting! The car is looking minty fresh tho! 8)
