Dec 1 Posted June 11, 2008 Not really sure what to make of this! It changes shape at the flick of a switch and can 'wink'! http://www.bmw-web.tv/en/channel/new
The Hub 0 Posted June 11, 2008 In this day and age with the amount of knives hoodies are carrying, wouldnt this be a prime target  Nice concept though.
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted June 11, 2008 yea you would need a puncture repair kit with that one....just in case :cuckoo:
mr_ed 0 Posted June 11, 2008 sweet! dont mean to thread jack but check out the new BMW concept M1. this and the original are very cool cars :afro: i think i am in love with the alloys on the new one :luvlove: http://www.coolhunting.com/archives/2008/04/bmw_m1.php
boost monkey 0 Posted June 11, 2008 I love it. Chris Bangle thinking futurospectively again as he did when he designed all those cars over the last few years. It's a concept after all, but it's still nice to see the different ways the designers and engineers are thinking though. I hope to be doing the same some day. dirtytorque 0 Posted June 11, 2008 thing of beauty.
boost monkey 0 Posted June 11, 2008 yea you would need a puncture repair kit with that one....just in case :cuckoo: It's a flexible material [PU-coated Lycra] on a movable wiremesh frame, so it's not like the "panels" are gonna tear off.
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted June 11, 2008 your puncture that material,it will tear.
boost monkey 0 Posted June 11, 2008 Well, I obviously don't know as much about lycra as you do! Is that like "If you book them, they will come?" Still say it's an awesome idea even if it is conceptual. Better than most of the stuff I've seen recently.
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted June 11, 2008 i like the idea, but in the real world will it work? who knows, but in the future with futher development mabey? but i like sheets of steel alloy,im old school!
Toad 0 Posted June 11, 2008 I think thats fecking cool. :)
skinnyman9000 0 Posted June 11, 2008 Those doors are incredible! Question is, IF they reached the real world, what is the fatigue on the material like? Will it still look fresh in 5-10yrs, or will it degrade and just tear? Probably not their prime concern at this stage though
dinkus 10 Posted June 11, 2008 I'd imagine that if it's just a bit of cloth (not exactly, but in principle) then it's not going to be hugely expensive to replace...
skinnyman9000 0 Posted June 11, 2008 Cloth? lol, i'd imagine its a ridiculously expensive polymer (and with added 'BMW' tax too)
The_Dude 0 Posted June 11, 2008 Cloth? lol, i'd imagine its a ridiculously expensive polymer (and with added 'BMW' tax too) Yeah, and one stone at motorway speeds and you have a nice tear in the front which will probably get worse as the wind flaps it about. Goodbye wallet! However it is a thing of beauty and visionary thinking.
Alexander 0 Posted June 11, 2008 How would you wash it? Nice to see the speed-activated spoiler making a welcome return :) It's just a concept and I'm glad BMW spend some of their cash on this kind of thing - if even a portion of it improves car design/building it'll have been worth it. boost monkey 0 Posted June 12, 2008 I already said it's a Polyurethane coated Lycra material :salute:
Alexander 0 Posted June 12, 2008 So you'd just wash and wax that as normal would you?
boost monkey 0 Posted June 12, 2008 Do you wash and wax lycra?
Alexander 0 Posted June 12, 2008 To be honest I don't wear a lot of lycra! Then again, I don't put many cars in the washing machine either.
boost monkey 0 Posted June 12, 2008  quality! I have no idea, ask the Bangles? Sorry, Chris Bangle.
Alexander 0 Posted June 12, 2008 I can't work out if Chris Bangle is a genius or a lunatic. Either way, it's very entertaining! I bet he earns a lot!
Critical_Mass 10 Posted June 12, 2008 Would you iron it a couple of times a year. i can see creases forming around the 'doors'
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted June 12, 2008 Yeah, and one stone at motorway speeds and you have a nice tear in the front which will probably get worse as the wind flaps it about. Goodbye wallet! or mabey it will look as cool as the attom when the skin rips off  or increase in value?
