Timo. 0 Posted December 12, 2003 Right, here I go trying to explain the noise I am experiencing from my vr6. When going round a left hand corner. (Doesn't happen going round a right hand corner). Ok so when going round a left hand bend and sometimes on the straight if slightly bent to the left I get this funny low thrumming noise. It is not continuous, but a sort of low thumbing. Bugging the hell out of me. No performance effects from it whatever its just annoying me senseless. Any ideas would be helpful. Timo. 0 Posted December 12, 2003 Doesn't really very too much with speed. Dont think its the wheel bearings. Surely that would be a continous noise which this isn't. Dan: RR day was well good. Really enjoyed it. She only made 183.5 bhp. Very disappointed. She can be very variable on different days and also when its not fully up to temperature. chris CORRADO 0 Posted December 12, 2003 errrrrrr i had this problem with a weird knocking noise from the right hand side (drivers) what i did is pull over (coz i was driving) and grab the wheel and try and rip it of *coz it was pissing me off soo much but to my suprise i could move the wheel about 5mm to my suprise the wheel was like gonna come off .... the ******* who fitted my new alloys forgot to tighton the wheels up they just put the bolts on and did them up with their fingers..... after this long and pointless post yer check to see if your wheel nuts are lose..... LOL mine were and if i would of left it maybe 1 more day the wheel might of fallen off!!!!! hope this helps i know it is not technical but it might me the problem......... -------------- chris Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 12, 2003 That's scary! Lucky you noticed it before the unthinkable happened. Didn't Mike Edwards have a wheel fall off his VR6? Wheel bolts are often overlooked. Whilst cleaning my car one weekend, I noticed the rear nearside wheel was missing a bolt altogether and the front offside wheel had a missing locking bolt and a loose main bolt :? Where do these bolts end up? Embedded in someone's radiator??? If you ever get stuck in traffic on a motorway, have a look in the hard shoulder stones, you'll be surprised by the amount of bits that fall off cars and trucks! Timo. 0 Posted December 14, 2003 Had it on the jacks today. To my surprise it aint the drivers side bearing thats gone. Its the other side!! I have been caught out by this before. Bloomin well sounds like the drivers side when I am driving and that fact that it makes the noise when going round a left hand bend! Weird!! Still, least I know what it is now. Got a 500 mile round trip on tuesday to do. Dont have time to get the part and get it fitted. Whats the worst thing that could happen if I dont get it fixed shortly??? Timo. 0 Posted December 15, 2003 Manage to get the car booked into the garage tomorrow whilst at work. Whoopee. He is usually busy as hell. I was a little tempted to get the VW garage to do but after the £42 an hour, two hours for the job, speech I thought NO CHANCE you rip off gits are getting my hard earned cash. Guest Posted December 15, 2003 I had a thumping noise coming from my off side wheel, I thought "wheel bearings", jacked it up, and gave it a shake (top to bottom) and they were fine. Bloke at work said "that'll be ya ball joint", didn't wanna take it to a VW garage for them to charge 50 quid just to tell me that, so I thought of a way to get the problem analysed for free. I took it to get the tracking done at a local garage :) The bloke came back to me and said "can't do anything till you get that lower ball joint sorted" :D bought the ball joint (9 quid) and at lunch tried to fit it. on removing the tyre I discovered a 6 inch long blister on the inside wall, the tyre had split, and almost come apart. I went mad at the bloke in the Tyre and exhaust 'specialists' for not spotting it when he had it jacked up, explained to him what would have happened to me if it had of burst on my trip home. got a full set of tyres very cheap for my troubles ;) very worth while checking that, as it could have killed me Thera Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

dr_mat 0 Posted December 15, 2003 A friend of mine discovered a mole grip hanging off the track rod arm on her Subaru the other day. It had been there ever since she got the tracking done a week or so earlier. It was undetectable when driving along, it was so well clamped on there... Amazingly dangerous though!! Timo. 0 Posted December 17, 2003 job done. Saved myself about 50 bucks getting it done at my local garage rather than the VW one. Glad I had it done cos the geezer said it was well gone and wouldn't have lasted much longer :shock: . Anyway got to my destination last night, 250 miles away. She is going strong, my car that is!! Supercharged 2 Posted December 17, 2003 I don't think so, maybe they mean if there is a small amount of resistance when you spin them by hand is ok as the momentum of the car will easily overcome that and is not a sign that they are too tight.
