Is this Storm silly money

Ok then,

 

Being a Corrado (but not VW) newbie, I'm after a bit of advice.

 

I'm currently looking for my first Corrado, and I'm looking for a VR6. Now in order to make it sound more appealing to the other half (who can't really understand why I want to change my Mk2 Golf Gti) I'm looking at a Storm under the "its limited edition and will hold its value better" argument (I'm not too fussed whether that's true or not, but if it facilitates my purchase, I don't care!).

 

Now I've seen a car from a specialist, it's a Storm in Green, fully documented VW history, immaculate (really, I thought my Golf was good, this is a step up from that) and completely standard (which I'm after) but it is on for £4.7k. Which I think seems like a lot, given that I see VR6s go in the classifieds for a lot less.

 

I was after a bit of advice really. Does the fact it is a Storm (and therefore has leather, etc.), fully documented from new, in A1 condition, and from a well thought of specialist, justify the price? Its also worth noting that, a) they will take my Golf as part-ex and b). I'm not massively mechanically minded (therefore don't really want to have to do much work following purchase). I also fully intend to keep up the service history at a local specialist.

 

Sorry if I've rattled on a bit, I pretty much type the way I talk!

Storms will generally fetch more than 'normal' VR6's, and if you keep it at the standard its at now then it should hold its value to a reasonable level, same as any other VR6 really!

Thanks for your reply. I expected it to be towards the top end of the price range, but it is lovely, and I'm more than willing to pay the right price for the right car, but don't want to be mugged off! With any luck it could be mine by the weekend...

 

Also, I must admit, having been a member of many VW forums down the years, that that was one of the friendliest replies to a newbie I've ever had!

I think you could easily haggle the price down to circa £4k in the current climate

Yeah, 4.7 is very much at the top end, though as pointed out it is from a trader,so it ain't too horrible. It would have to be absolutely mint with lots of things replaced recently for me to get it, but I'm not you!...haggle my friend, see how far you can get.

 

You can also check with dealers to see if it is an officially registered storm.

Fully intend to get my haggling hat on! As you say, in the current climate people are happy to be getting vehicles off their books.

 

With regards things to look out for, what are typical niggles with the VR6, I've read about timing chains, so obviously evidence that they've been sorted on time is a must. Anything else (other than general car stuff)?

Absolutely. If you're new to Corrados and especially if it has a VR6 in it, then I would definitely recommend purchasing one from the top end of the market.

Not so long ago Storms were going for £10K, so £4.7K although steep by today's pricing situation, is a bargain for a (genuine) Storm.

Check the sunroof works both ways and that the heaters blow on all 4 speed settings and you can adjust where it blows. Oh and spoiler should come up around 55-60 and come back down about 10 mph.

Hey Robbie, welcome to the forum.

Good choice in car, a nicely maintained Corrado should hold most of its value and you get the added bonus of driving one of the finest cars ever made :D

That buying guide in the Wiki is very helpful as is everyone on here.

Get it bought and get some pictures up!
