Zeal 0 Posted May 1, 2009 did your car come from ffostrasol? (think it's spelled like that) near to aberaeron . i saw it advertised on e-bay, i recognize the colour and wheels. very close to where i live, was tempted to buy it myself. glad to see it went to a good home. voo51 0 Posted May 1, 2009 It came from crosshands in wales last January. It had Avez A's on at the time. Facelifts in Burton on trent are doing it. They specialise in Corrados, well used to!Chris, the owner sourced and drove all the way to London a few years back to collect my old VR6. I think they are more of a general bodyshop now. I have been going there for about 8 years so I trust them :) Plus, they are really fair on price.
Zeal 0 Posted May 1, 2009 ye that has to be it, avez a wheels 17". That colour, those wheels and in wales has to be rare. Cross-Hands would be a sensible place to sell it from if you lived in the middle of nowhear like ffosstrasol or me. interesting wheel arch mod, have to keep an eye out for this. voo51 0 Posted May 5, 2009 Just been to the bodyshop again, the arches have started to be built up. Sorry for the blurry pics but I was a little excited! As it is all original Corrado parts being used it should look quite natural if that is the right word! It will definately not be ready for the weekend as originally said! voo51 0 Posted May 8, 2009 I have been down the bodyshop again as they wanted me to ok what had been done so far and I love it!! The arches are really starting to take form now. They are were still in rough stages and needed smoothing up when I took these pics. You can't really tell from the pics but the upper part of the rear wing has also been pulled out a little so the whole car gets slightly widder the further back it goes. There is still alot of sanding and smoothing to do else where on it, but, It is apparently going in to be sprayed on Monday and I should be picking it up on Tuesday. :D - Needs a blinking good clean as well! voo51 0 Posted May 9, 2009 The bodyshop have sent me this picture today. Turns out the majority of my nearside is rotten. Apparently the arch and sill was just falling appart. They said it was due to bad repairs in the past. I am absolutely gutted. They are going to dig it all out and re-weld it all. I am really worried though as throughout the winter months I am detail cleaning underneath and I feel it is all going to fall apart as I am trying to scrub it clean! Philuk 0 Posted May 9, 2009 wow that sucks a bit! but you gotta remember the age of the car and that shoddy work could of been done after 3 weeks of the car being on the road! there is nothing you c an do, at least you found it now whilst its having loads of bodywork done and it can be sorted! :)
mrbeige 0 Posted May 9, 2009 No need at all. But I guess the best thing is, given what looks like very good work so far, you know that it will be properly pukker once it's done! :salute:
dirtytorque 0 Posted May 9, 2009 See it as a good thing. It has unearthed something that needs attention. Going to look phat when it's done. 8)
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted May 10, 2009 Most raddos have some sort of rust or rot hidden out of the way under underseal without the owners knowledge and the only way is by removing all underseal and starting from fresh. Its an easy fix for a body shop, once stone guarded and painted again you will never know. :)
BadMeatPies 0 Posted May 10, 2009 this is going to give me nightmares about my own car now! arches should be mental when they're done - i can't wait.
voo51 0 Posted May 10, 2009 Thanks guys, I suppose that is the best way to look at it - that they have found it while work is being done and at least it will be gone. I have been having sleepless nights because I am so excited about getting it back! It is still on for Tuesday to be picked up apparently.I would like to pop in on Monday to take more pictures but I am at work all day, hopefully the bodyshop will send me some pics to my mobile. Pictures when I collect it will be posted staight away! :D :D :D
coullstar 0 Posted May 10, 2009 Mmm brave doing that to what at the time seemed a good shell. I'll be honest and say I would never do that as the car will always need wide wheels from now on to look right. I had the same problem with a white G60 regards the sill about 6-7 years ago and its still running about so I woudlnt worry to much.
voo51 0 Posted May 11, 2009 I just wanted something a bit different :) Always having wide wheels doesn't bother me as there are so many great wide wheels out there, although the price of the tyres might!
dgtvr6 0 Posted May 11, 2009 Looking sweet indeed.. Looking forward to seeing that bodywork when complete and painted. Great to see someone loving their C
pudman1983 0 Posted May 12, 2009 voo51, your in the midlands, can i ask where you get your spares from? would appreciate your advice, ta kindly
yeti 0 Posted May 12, 2009 look slike alot of good work is going into this one :D got to ask though - i know wheels beyond the bodywork is illegal but are stretched tires legal with all the problems it causes by lowering the ratings proportionally so unless you go for a very high spec tire the tire will not be specced for the top speed of the vehicle? Not having ago at all, asking because i want to put a 205 40 17 on an 8.25" rim and there will be a fair amount of stretch and want to know if this is allowed in the letter of the law? herisites 0 Posted May 12, 2009 Good choice of wheels 8) This is how they looked on mine (although mine were 9x16 all round and were custom sprayed):
voo51 0 Posted May 12, 2009 Thankyou for all the nice comments! As for the tyres, The MOT examiner said nothing about the tyres themselves, just about the arches. Saying that the Corrado goes in for its MOT in the next couple of weeks so I will update you then. I hope not as I don't want to have to buy more tyres and I think stretched tyres look great! herisites - I actually took your car as inspiration and had it as a screen saver on my phone as I loved the wheels so much! I went to the bodyshop today, It definately will not be ready for today as hoped and possibly not Friday. I have told them I need it back on Monday though as te coilovers are going on on tuesday then the MOT is being done.
voo51 0 Posted May 16, 2009 Well, the ar is still at the bodyshop. I am hoping It will be ready for monday night but I doubt it. The offside arch has now been welded on though and should be shaped/smoothed shortly. In the meantime I am on th prowl for a satnav like mort1414!! :D
vwdeviant 0 Posted May 16, 2009 herisites - I actually took your car as inspiration and had it as a screen saver on my phone as I loved the wheels so much! Whoop Whoop! "Stalker alert" Good to see the progress here..
voo51 0 Posted May 19, 2009 Well I have her back temporarily. Well, for 5 hours or so just while the coilovers go on! I think she looks great. Everyone as starring on my way home-I think it was more to do with the two tone effect than the widder arches! The rear has been completely smoothed off now, just need the finishing prep to be done plus the rear bumper. I really hope I have it back by next week as it's mot time! voo51 0 Posted May 19, 2009 Well, it gets worse! The got the rear coilovers fitted, in the process my McGard locking key broke off a bit. When attempting to take the front wheels off with the key via hand wrench the key completely broke and the front nuts which are still holding my wheels on have parts snapped off them and are cracking all over. The car has now had to go up on ramps and have the fronts changed from underneath. Which is taking a really long time! I have complained to halfrauds who have ordered a replacement key which will hopefully remove my front nuts, if not they will have to get them off with a drill. They will also be refunding my whole nut set once they are all off. I am not using McGard locking wheel nuts again!!!! I don't think I will have time to get the Corrado back to the bodyshop today either :(
