Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 13, 2011 Well they deal with radiators and air conditioning of all shapes and sizes. Have a search, you might be pleasantly surprised! Well google didn't bring anything up... I can get a reconditioned Rad from Volks-apart for £59...
OllieVR6 0 Posted January 13, 2011 The bumper iron and brackets on the other hand is another story. Advice on how to proceed would be warmly welcomed. I would also like to know if VW sell the metal components separately? Alex, if it was me, I'd get the iron out the bumper, get the rust off with a wire brush on a drill, then see how much is left. You might find that with some hammerite smooth on it, you don't need to replace it. Worth a shot before you shell out for new iron?

No metal to polish back too. If the brackets are worth keeping then i might be able to reweld some new parts to the bumper iron... I'm going to get my existing bumper off too to see if i can use any of the bits off that one first. :)

Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 16, 2011 mine just slips off. maybe its broken but if you pull of the handbrake leather bit mine slips off the same way! You mean the leather slips off or the handle pulls off the lever? I tried to pull the handle off but it wouldn't budge...

Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 16, 2011 Right boys and girls! Just a brief description of the process involved for cleaning the upholstery that I've adopted. I've tried the fabric cleaners and the like and they never seem to do the job, so I managed to get a loan of a new Aqua Vac. Pics bellow of before and after the cleaning of a 15yr old drivers seat. I have to say, i was very impressed with the results! :D
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 16, 2011 P.S. Ive still to do the carpets of the car but I'm not that Keen on ripping them out.... What do people think of cleaning the carpets while they're still in the car?? Will i cause untold Rot? Or so long as i dry it out quickly do you think its a good idea? Cheers!! :)
Fulltimejunglist 0 Posted January 16, 2011 Looking good those seats are, alot smarter. I also would like to know of this, im sure i have seen this done before and it worked a treat, my carpet is brown but should be grey and i would like to do the same but not leave patches of water within the carpet. Good work though mate
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 24, 2011 I've decided to take the carpet out in order to clean it... mostly because I can lay it out flat. Will be doing that in the next few days. A side note: I'm looking at renting a steading in Angus. It may be big enough for multiple occupants too! Got a pal with that Oak Green Mk2 coming to share the building with me, If I get in there then we can really start cracking on with actually fixing the car!!! Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 28, 2011 The weather up in Dundee hasn't been all that good so no carpet cleaning just now... will have a go at the weekend. Soooo, I got bored and took my dremel to my windscreen wiper arms and Alternator cover... as you do :) Pics attached... I also took a walk around my car with a torch and hitting stick and I have come to the conclusion that It's in quite good nick! I always bang on (especially on here) that my C was never worth the money I paid for her. having a dodgy sub frame, rusty slam panel ect... but looking at her yesterday, I saw miles less rust than what ive been seeing on a friends car of similar age. It's cheered me up no end :) I was so happy in fact that I topped her up with oil and coolant, slapped her in gear and push started her to give her a breath of fresh air! However, When i tried to stop the car the brake line popped! Ohh well, I still love her, depending on how the next few months go I may well either have her going again or she'll be sat for another year. Eitherway, I've come to the conclusion that I'm never flogging the poor girl unless I need a new kidney or something. And even then I'd consider fitting a dialysis machine into the dash

I know i don't NEED a new airbox... and if i did the OEM one works fine. I just love the look of the SWG motorsport one
Wild-Animal 0 Posted January 28, 2011 hey you can pick up the central locking pumps fairly well if your not in a rush keep an eye out someone will be selling one on the cheap, that might solve you locking problem, also if you fit another central locking pump, I put the foam casing it sits above my Rayburn to dry out. As it was damp and wrapped the foam with a polythene bag before refitting. I opend the back up of the pump and found it had moisture in it. So this should prevent this. For your callipers I refurbished mine, stripped the paint back, repainted and resealed them i noticed a big difference. The cost of seals is a bit though

For your callipers I refurbished mine, stripped the paint back, repainted and resealed them i noticed a big difference. The cost of seals is a bit though I'll need new brake lines for the brakes anyway (not on the list but sure I needed it for an MOT..) So i could do that myself and save some wonga and get the callipers rubbed down at the same time. As for the pump i'm unsure if it's that or the switch in the actual lock... It seems very temperamental/sensitive when turning the key. When I unlock the car and then go to turn the key back if I turn the key to far back round then it sets off the pump... very odd. Maybe a loose connection at the lock side of the circuit? But tbh... That's the least of my worries! First thing to do is get some money and try and get some new suspension components... :)
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 28, 2011 by the way... am i correct in assuming that these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK2-G60-U ... 588ba87a35 are not good for the wishbone joints and suspension generally? I can imagine then being a little to hard.
Wild-Animal 0 Posted January 29, 2011 Well i used power flex bushings on the whole front end of mine, wishbones and anitl roll bar. Just while i had mine in a million pieces thought i would change them Some say its worth sticking to genuine bushings but its up to yourself. I
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted January 29, 2011 I've been out changing the starter motors over today... cleaning 026.jpg[/attachment:35zv7161] took the old one out and replaced with a new one but the car still wont turn over. I bridged the terminals and the starter motor turns but doesn't turn the engine! :confused4: When I use the key the motor doesn't even spin.... Does anyone know the relay number for the starter circuit? Could this be the problem?
